Caught Jonathan Richman last night at the Andy Warhol museum. Third time I’d seen him, the first being around 1984, which is one of my all time favorite shows.

It was lots of fun. I recognized Egyptian Reggae near the beginning, and he had a tendency to make a two or three song medley at times. The crowd went all in for Dancing in A Lesbian Bar singalong.

He asked if we had “any ideas” and used that to gently tell us that those old songs belonged to a different time. Probably a nightly schtick. Sang a song in Italian, Spanish, and French - but asides to let us know what was going on in them. Took Pablo Picasso and tripled its length with extra lyrics, some role play, and just goofing around. Wonderful.

Near the end did “Frozen Sky” and for the encore a tune where the ocean wanted him back, but he wasn’t ready yet. It was good of a Jonathan show as anyone would expect, and my Better Half™ totally dug it, and the neighbor couple who’d never heard of him seemed to get it as well.
