I'm new to pretty well anything Rundgren. I grabbed this album and another 2-LP live album of his on clearance (real cheap) RSD versions. I actually like this one so far. So I need to ask, which ones do you prefer? (I got a 10CD boxset of his (bought years ago) I need to revisit some day ð)
They're usually so different it's hard to pick. He refused to repeat himself and doesn't listen to contemporary music while recording.
"A Wizard" or "Todd" - done to protest his pop hero status awarded after "Something/Anything", with AWATS more abstract. Both excellent and challenging.
"Healing" - I love this, a thin Jesus metaphor but it came out while I was in med school. Nice. He always seems to be a few years ahead of my life.
"Nearly Human" and "2nd Wind" - wonderful, as he comes out of a relative slump and puts on his ethical/humanistic/inspirational robes again. Inspired me during tough times.
"Global" - he toured it as a dance party, which I caught in Napa. It's got some wonderful songwriting on it.
There are scores of other brilliantly written individual songs that aren't in that list, but the albums don't click with me as much. YMMV.
The double live "Back to the Bars" just doesn't work like he wanted it to. He hoped it would be his "Frampton Comes Alive" but it ain't.
But, during Covid lockdown, he "toured" virtually - with the stage set up in one place, but the decorations, catered food, and Zooming fans were all from the area the tour "stopped in."
I attended the SF show, and snuck into the last one. When you bought tix, they used geolocation to decide which shows you could attend.
Here's one of those shows.

Ask your AI. It will show you RUNDGREN top of the fucking pops & all of it.
One of my least favorite, although I appreciate the effort.

It's been so long I spun a KC album (wax or CD) that this is like all new to me. I really liked this one. A keeper.
I have a CD boxset close by (The Great Deceiver). Gonna have to spin those in the near future.
Got that one too, since it was less overwhelming. It got included in a later giant boxset, but I still have my original CDs. As Fripp said of Bruford and Wetton: "âamazing, busy, exciting, mobile, agile, inventive and terrible to play overâ
I don't splurge much on physical music, since I figure my son is just gonna inherit/sell it anyway. but I had to have The Road to Red.

I ended up giving my copy away. It had a small crack off the edge but it only ran across the first track. And when I played it I never heard any clicking sound. But wasn't gonna try to sell it that way.
Just finished cranking my vinyl copy, and playing my electronic drums a bit too...no, exactly the right amount of loud.
