...Built in 1901, this Victorian home in the Hollywood section of Dunmore features 1850 sf of living space with an additional 1350 sf of partially finished space. Original hardwood floors throughout entire home. 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms. Off-street parking. Freshly painted. New moulding throughout entire first floor. Slightly haunted. Nothing serious, though. e.g. The sounds of phantom footsteps. A strange knocking sound followed by a very quiet (hardly noticeable, even) scream at 3:13am, maybe once a week. Twice a week, tops. And the occasional ghastly visage lurking behind you in the bathroom mirror. Even still, this occurs very rarely and only in the second floor bathroom...

what is the starting price for houses in that neck of the woods.  US$400/450,000 is the starting price for houses around here roughly (about £250,000- sometimes a little less).  You were joking weren't you?  Houses aren't THAT cheap even in the US.

Why yes, they are! We have 5 nice houses to choose from in the 100-125 range this weekend. I have already seen 2 of them and one of them I am going to get if none of the others match our needs. It is a wonderful little brick 3 bed 2 bath number with 1.5 acres of fenced, wooded beautiful lot! I cannot even see my neighbors on either side because of space and woods; brand new wood deck, brand new heatingac; recent house inspection, warranty, they are paying all closing cost and throwing in a lowes $500 gift certificates for any home improvements! Yes, this is indeed a buyers market!{#Dancingbanana_2}

Addendum: the area just got ranked as #8 on Newsweeks or somebodys poll of best cities to live in the US. Taking into consideration; income, job availability, school district quality, crime rates and so forth. Besides, my job is why I am moving in the first place!{#Yes}

Good for you!  There is a massive premium on land here due to difficulty in getting planning permission, high population density and supply not keeping up with demand.  We do live in a prcey town though and you can get small apartments for quite a lot less but still way more than $100k.  Prices here have really got out of hand over the last few years and the recent drop back isn't THAT much compared to where prices were 10 years ago when we bought.  Local estate agent.

Not to say there aren't areas like you describe over here (San Francisco, only one example).  But if you're willing to travel far, you can find a house.  Will it be somewhere you want to live or where there are jobs?  Most likely not

How ironic, I am taking a trip this weekend to Western Georgia to make a final decision on a house. Does anyone have a house for sale in this area for around $100,000?{#Question}
