Given all of the noise surrounding the app... I updated my older one to see what all the fuss was about.
As a overall comment...it looks good.
That said, here's my 2 cents....
There is too much movement in the app, without a sense of grounding... a home base. It's easy to feel lost. My suggestion...EVERYTHING on the one page.
Specifically:
The "now playing" image is pointless. Having the same image in two places with same size (with the headers/titles moving around) is confusing and a waster of precious real estate. The only real addition on the second page is the histogram, average, total ratings and comments. All of that will be on one page by the end of my comments.
The channel selection section should be deleted from the main page, and made into a pop-up, with a cookie set the first time in and then the changing of the channel occurring through the re-opening of the pop-up using the carrot ( > ) that is currently, confusingly, use to represent navigation instead of an open carrot listing. Some of that (I assume) is the desire to keep the "donate" button on the top of the screen and the complexity of getting that to remain persistent... I'll get to that. Make the header a fixed item with the selection of the channel included.
Since I was talking about the header...I would make it:
Row 1 - The headphones - Radio Paradise - and the donate button
Row 2 - Channel selector
Always visible...fixed to the top.
I would then create a fixed footer. On the footer, I would put:
The play/pause button - centered and larger
The cast / speaker button
The next button
The menu button
And maybe the share button (not sure anyone actually uses it...but if they do, then keep it).
That leaves the middle.....
Make the image smaller. It could be half the size and still be visible.
Change the song timer to a single line...and put it under the picture.
Put the histogram and comments on the main page, and let the user scroll
I personally would delete the song history
I like the overall look, and I haven't had the connectivity issues others have, just would reduce the "movement" and page numbers. Get it all on one page.
I am using 9.0.4 on iPad Mini and thought I'd provide some usability feedback:
The button to sync the current channel seems to have gone - it was on the 'now playing view'. I often used this feature so would be great to have it back
The now playing rating heart icon does not show the rating number if I have rated it. I find the colour too hard to distinguish.
The share, airplay, hamburger icons are really small and my fat fingers find them really hard to hit
Can the app remember the current channel and automatically start playing it when I launch the app?
The old app used to display the rating histogram on now-playing in landscape mode - can we have this back please?
If I tap on the now playing image, scroll down through the comments, and then tap back, the display reverts to the channel list instead of the now playing view, requiring me to scroll back down to the now playing view.
I can't seem to access the 'about' view of the artist within the app, although it is accessible via the 'read more comments' which opens the web page in the browser. It would be great if this web view was hosted directly in the app, in the same layout. The web page layout works really well on the iPad Mini in landscape and portait.
It would be great if a sideways swipe from the song details page returned to the now playing page, and vice versa. The little '<' icon is too small for me to tap easily
Can the comments list take advantage of the full width of the screen, and lazy load the entire list? That would mean fewer taps to access the historical comments.
I like the 'find on Spotify' (no need to be coy about the name!) - this is a real time saver for me as I often use what is playing on RP as a starting point for searching on Spotify
I don't have strong views on the now playing progress bar design, but I prefer the original simple straight line over the stylised waveform.
I dont like the dumbed-down new IOS interface, has fewer comments, cant select bitrate, everything is hidden and 'simplified'. Very disappointing change
Shout out to Danny, our intrepid app developer. He really brought his A-game to the Great CarPlay Crisis of 2026. We're well on our way to having the greatest music/radio app ever!
Hello Fine RP Folks, We are now on V 9.0.3 with the iOS app. If you haven't updated to this version please do.. Lots of fixes like CarPlay and Download function among others. We'd love to enlist more beta tester for our upcoming updates. Any takers? If you're interested, just follow this link - https://testflight.apple.com/join/jZqkheKS

Version 9.0.2 update is coming out next week to the 2% of listeners who have the new app. Here's what to expect....
- Full Apple CarPlay integration with real-time sync between phone and car
- Skip behavior that correctly respects Radio Paradiseâs skip limits
- Channel and downloads improvements using the new API (including filtering stream-only channels for now)
- Playback history restoring properly on launch
- No more logouts during network changes
- Channel list updating correctly when switching accounts
- Fixed lyrics display loop issue
- New pan shader effect
- Improved album art spacing
- Edge-to-edge display on Android
Any news on 9.0.2? Iâm still stuck on 9.0.1. The above was posted 13 days ago.
if the new App is so good why are you putting in links back to either the main site or the old App 9 not sure which yet) which have most of the appearance information and functionality that these complaints are calling ( re-calling) for?
Ok, so it sounds like the current app (with limited functionality and no car play) is just a temporary app until the new full-functioning app comes out this week. Good to know, but you might want to post an announcement on the front page and push out a message to the apps so people won't fill up the forums with complaints.
What happened to the bitrate options? âNormalâ is so vague. Iâm also baffled that the separate options to select the streaming quality for both cellular and wireless is now gone.
This new UI is sorely lacking, and with regards to the aesthetics, the choice to use red icons and text isnât calming - especially when choosing a different station. Please go back to yellow and the more elegant appearance of the previous app, The lovely artwork needs to return as well.
Agreed, esp. about the color choices. The old UI wasn't great either but you got used to it.
Also, the new app doesn't seem to have a way to access this forum. Maybe there is a way, but it's very cleverly hidden.
I'm getting a LOT of interruptions in songs—e.g. you're listening to REM but Stone Roses comes on in the middle of it.
Finally, I appreciate that a lot of hard work went into getting this app released but it might have been better if you let your listeners know a new app was coming...
RP has posted in other threads last week that they are launching a new version of the app hopefully this week with CarPlay integration & several other requested fixes. You can find it somewhere in the Forum, so standby, v9.0.2 is on the way.
