I always thought candle was camel to this very day until I went poking around and looked at the lyrics for the first time

John Kay had one of the best voices for rock.

As for misheard lyrics, I think of the Everest of mondegreens and manglings: "Yellow Ledbetter" by Pearl Jam. The Finnegan's Wake of rock music.

I've always assumed that the 1979 tune is about Joe not being able to find a girlfriend, because my gaydar is broken (really). But, listening to it this morning I realized that it could easily be reframed to him lamenting that he's gay and won't be able to be like the happy loving couples. Hmm.

I never looked up the lyrics to Sweet Jane, just mumbled along. Standin' on a corner Suitcase in my hand Jack's in his corset Jane is in her vest Me, honey, I'm in a rock & roll band. Drivin' in a Stutz Bearcat, Jim Those were different times. I had no idea but generally went with something like Friday musta sticka chew
