FWIW, a lot of screen names have changed, as previously banned members have snuck back in.  On occasion the new-old member will even be allowed to reclaim his/her original screen name.  I don't have a clue how this process works, but never see it playing out in public.  BillG moves in mysterious ways.  (Don't let that go to your head, Bill. )

Hence my choice of words.  A victory lap is for the benefit of the crowd.  If the crowd shows up expecting a victory lap, all well-meaning intentions fly out the door.

I'm glad that they're getting their due recognition in a separate ceremony.

Or maybe someone decided that it wasn't appropriate to disrupt a solemn and tender moment for those who lost their family members with a victory lap celebration for the ground zero workers.

Those workers earned their recognition, but to be fair, they had a lot of time at ground zero to stop and contemplate.  Time that the families of the lost didn't have precisely because ground zero has been a "work in progress" money pit for a decade and counting.

Something is very wrong when, after a bunch of men hijacked planes and used them to murder 3000 people, that someone would single out a scheduling decision of all things to call "unforgivable".
