9/11 is history now. It has gone through an evolution. It certainly was an inflection point. We could have gone a lot of different ways after. Briefly, we were united by the tragedy. Soon after, we were divided by the response. 25 years later it looks more and more like it achieved the goal of the attackers. They knew us better than we knew ourselves. Until we figure out ourselves (our better selves), a remembrance of the even seems off key - we haven't learned the lesson that the ceremony should remind us of. The turmoil over the attendance/behaviors of the day just reinforce that for me.

Despise me, my posts, my memes. It changes nothing in my message. The same one I attempt to express in one form or another most every day.
I'm sorry that including you and k in the same response was inappropriate to you. I had no intention in tarring you with the same brush and probably should have made separate responses, it is just that his was a later response to you.

I donât think that silence on a music forum should lead to the conclusion that weâve all suddenly become communist Saudis. Itâs a solemn time without a need for virtue signaling or insisting on making a speech, sleeping through the honors to the dead, and then flying to a private golf club in another nation. For me, growing up in the United States, 9/11 was an inflection point - there was before, and there was after. If you will, an innocence lost even though I was already 40. It seemed to affect everyone at the time, though this is no longer the case: over a third of the present population of the US was not born yet, or has immigrated since. The other one I've lived through was Covid. I'm sure there are more on the horizon.

The determination of whether it was religion and/or hatred is pointless. It's generally agreed that Bin Laden was responsible. Sure, his rhetoric was rooted in fundamental Islamist ideology, but he stated a hatred for the US repeatedly in the years leading up to the attacks. His late '90s fatwa explicity stated it was the duty of every Muslim to kill American citizens, be they civilian or military, and their allies globally.
After the attacks, he praised the destruction and deaths to his primary enemy, the US.
It's a chicken and egg...but each fuels the other.

I view that 9/11 event more as motivated by extremely misguided religious fervor. Hatred may have been involved, but not at its core.
