Whatever I knew was nothing at all
It was nothing at all, just making me small
Smaller and smaller, I fall back
Sooner or later with a view from the ground
Chasing the race and the races will run you down
Sooner or later with a view from the ground
And a tear in your eye, you say, baby, why can't we fly
In the blue sky
High in the blue sky
Be my singing lesson, be my song
When I tell you I'm falling, you tell me I'm strong
The trees have grown tall, the birds have flown high
Higher and higher, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye
I'll fly over a rainbow, I'll be sun kissed
Sail around the planet Venus
And send a long letter way back home
That says all that I know, all that I know
Is the blue sky
High in the blue sky
In the blue sky
High in the blue sky
The farther I come, the farther I fall
Whatever I knew was nothing at all
The trees have grown tall, the birds have flown high
Higher and higher, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye
Yup. But I think nobody agrees with us.
I do :)
Why is this not on Spotify!?
It is now.
Her best album.
Yup. But I think nobody agrees with us.
Her voice just don't do it for me. Personal taste, that's all. And i think the guitar has been drinking...
No opinion on the guitar, but her voice on this track and others is one of the better sounds on RP, which has plenty of good sounds.
IDK, reminds me a bit of Foreigner.
heeheehee good one

Oh, sorry... mea culpa... you can purchase itunes downloads through RP as well... sorry... but I KNOW you meant that you were going to click through RP to get to itunes, right? ;-)
How do you do that?
Totally agree. I just read an article on the guy who produced Flaming Red (Jay Joyce) - he's produced Eric Church, Carrie Underwood and some other really big acts recently. The song Tony on Flaming Red is some powerful sh!t.

And church elevators dance buck naked.
We all glow.
We all glow.
I suppose, but very, very briefly.
Good lord no! Not even a close resemblance.

On the other hand, thanks Bill and 'Becca as I just wrote a song and was trying to remember last night the name of the Led Zep song that has a similar chord progression...couldn't do it. Now.... Tangerine!

So, I'll ask it again, "Has she ever recorded a bad song?"
Love you Patty.
I think she is the best singer/songwriter today. I try not miss a day without
giving a listen to Patty, so if Bill if you want to play Patty every day, I am in.
I can dig.
Best female vocalist of our times!
AMEN!!!!

Patty Griffin performs the song, "Flaming Red" from that same titled album of 1998.
Yes! This album was so hard, I loved it. I hope someday she does something along the same lines again. blindpoetic
"I wish she would do some more "tear the shit out of it" sounding songs on her nest record. She's kind of abandoned that stuff, unfortunately." SkeeterNYC
" "flaming red" was my first patty griffin album, needless to say, i was blown away. after backtracking to her other albums, i was surprised, and still am of her range. this proves she did it before and i cant wait for her to do this type of sound again. until then, i'll just be oh so happy with what whatever she decides to do. amazing! and thanks for the post. obviously going on my fav list." mistermut

:)
I CAN"T THINK OF ANYTHING FARTHER FROM THE TRUTH....its horrible....
Yeah, especially now, with the oil spill of the century about to come ashore. I don't have many resources to help, but I do plan to get my hair cut (it's loooong) and donate it through the organization that is collecting human and pet hair through salons and invdividual donations to help absorb oil. Yikes. This situation terrifies me. Let's build more platforms, though!!!
Right, more platforms! I hear you...the damn thing is still gushing oil. The east coast may get a fair amount of it also.

Not familiar with her... but I like this sound. A bit of Shawn Colvin but more metallic edge. From your comment, is this track atypical?
This is from Patty's rocking-out album. And does she ever. But the rest of her work is more acoustic-oriented. And its all gorgeous.

Yes...she's generally an acoustic act with an occasional country edge, more like...I don't know, maybe Alison Kraus. A great listen, either way.

Oh hell yes she is. I can't believe you're even asking that.
And they are all great. This is one stonker of a record!
This is a great CD, I don't know about one stonker of a record though.
It's one hell of a CD, best of the year for me.
Like this one for example.
Sadly I don't think she would ever pass the LRC.
Ahem. Sorry, I think I've gotten ahold of myself now.
