Streets like the rest of them
But I can't forget
Faces familiar and full of regret
I hated this place
And all who came from it

Far from the scenery
Far from the road
Far from the greenery
Lifted my load
We boarded the train
To come back again

I was convinced in my mind
I was not of this kind
Faced with finality
I choose calamity

See us
Watch how this city consumes us
Watch how this city destroys us
Prices I'm happy to pay

Walking on pathways
I walked with my friends
Hearing that some of them
Have met bitter ends
How can you conceive
Your friends will be grieving for you?

Running from memories
I'll only deny
Doesn't make remedies
They still survive
I hated this place
And I have come from it

I was convinced in my mind
I was not of this kind
Faced with reality
I choose frivolity

See us
Watch how this city consumes us
Watch how this city destroys us
Cost I am happy to pay

See it coming near
See you walking close to me
Fear inside my head
Fear is never far from me
Walk you in my side
Walk you in the day we met
We will disappear
We will reappear
We can disappear
We can reappear

See us
Watch how this city consumes us
Watch how this city destroys us
Prices I'm happy to pay

Wow!! I absolutely loved The Beautiful South back in the 90's. I have not listened to them for quite a few years. I used to play them for my friends and can you believe this comment is the first indication that someone else in the world has heard of them. Seriously - I have never ever met anyone that knows the Beautiful South. I would love to hear them on RP.

they used to be played on our local NPR station all the time in the late 90s. i miss them. good call to get the Beautiful South on RP!
Fuck this song is almost 20 years old.

wow - I love this… all of it. it’s weird

Currently touring with Paolo Nutini and Franz Ferdinand?

I thought I'd heard this before, but didn't recognize the lyrics. Yeah, it's a LOT like EB's song!

Just read that the vocalist, Emma Pollack, is also associated with Kid Creosote which RP played earlier today. I find many common threads in the music here...

Her voice reminds me a bit of Regina Spektor's. Which is not a bad thing at all.
Very Steven Wilsonesque IMHO... a good thing actually. Very good.

Now 20170726... and from 7 to 8. :)

The juxtaposition with the Simon and Garfunkel song suggests something other than love for the big city. Is this the DJ's commentary? Or simply an alternative perspective?

A Paul Simon song now followed by a song that sounds just like Edie Brickell singing. Subliminal?

In my more befuddled state, I was expecting to hear something from the Del Fuegos, a Boston band from the 80s. Wish I had as this sounds like a tired Edie Brickell song. The band toured with Tom Petty and scored a Miller Beer commercial but didn't last long enough for much more.

For the curious, the Del Fuegos video "Don't Run Wild": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Urd60ot_5R8

Dumb video, good song.
 very nice indeed..{#Music}

Named for Tour winner Pedro Delgado.

I realize that you see great value in strong opinions, but "How boring" is not one of them. In my experience, boring is characteristic of a teenage perspective. Surely even you must recognize that labeling something as boring makes it easy to completely ignore all its qualities. You are entitled to this opinion, but why do you feel the need to tell the world you are bored? This seems too easy. As well as boring to the rest of the world.

Like the Swedish artist Jose Gonzalez or that American guy Jerry Garcia.

Good tune
Love this song - it just seems perfectly formed and the vocals are excellent.
How boring
There are a lot of comparisons to other artists here. I was reminded of Frente. Not only do the vocalists sound a lot alike, but the song structure is very similar to a Frente song, although I can't name it at the moment. I'll have to pull out the Ipod and see if I can find it.
Great mellow morning mix, Bill.  Reminds me of the first time I heard Enya.  I was at a friend's cabin in the Finger Lakes area of upstate NY and woke up on a Sunday morning to the Watermark album, which I had never heard before.  Turned me on to a whole new genre of music.  To this day, I'll put on that album on Sunday mornings.

I thought so too. Bill just queued this one up to follow Simon & Garfunkel's 'The Only Living Boy In New York', so maybe there's a tenuous connection there what with Edie being Mrs Simon...
Came here thinking this was Hem.
Love the cover art. Love the voice. Love the tune. I guess I'm in love. La la la la la di la la. A real shame this band is now defunct.
This band has lots of good songs, Definitely only one song on RP is simply unfair.
Sounds very much Edie Brickell from the 80's
Gosh. This is rather good. Oh payday why must you always be so distant?
"Emma Pollock's gorgeous ode to the love/hate relationship between artists and their hometown." (iTunes review) Agree completely.
I'm at a loss to figure out why I don't own this whole album.
It stopped me cold.. I was making pasta.. and I really had to look.. oh wow.. another hit from RP...... mmm pasta
A beaut! Love the voice and arrangement. YES!{#Exclaim}
Wow, I thought this was another clever Bill segue, having been played right after Simon and Garfunkle (at first I thought it was Edie Brickel)

Anyway, like it - and agree that the artwork on the cover is really classic looking.

I just love these guys. Saw them at Lee's Palace a few years ago in Toronto, complete with a string section and a theremin. Magical.

Awful!

First time hearing these guys, and I really liked what I heard. I'll have to check out more of their stuff.
Love her voice.
More Delgados please. Especially good is "HATE (**** 1/2 stars) in All Music Guide ("Hate is all you Need")
What a gorgeous cover - the font and colours match perfectly.
The chorus sounds very similar to Edie Brickell, specifically a song called Green

Read on wikipedia that they broke up in 2005.  Bummer.
another great fit for my funk dujour. Thanks for rockin the non-hits RP. you're the most.
Wow.  Was not familiar with this band or song.  Beautiful.  What a wonderful surprise.  {#Meditate}
I've always liked this song from the first time I found RP. Also, the album cover is nostalgic for me, being of a certain demographic. {#Biggrin}

Ah, "Rabbit Songs"...happy happy, joy joy!

funny story how I got to these guys, few years ago when I was still into Anime (please don t start a discussion about ANime) I was watching 'Gunslinger Girl' and the opening theme was really really good, liked it alot, so I got the original soundtrack for the series, and then after getting it I saw the OP theme was called 'The Light before we land', by none other than 'the delgados' !

anyway, funny coincidence, hearing them on rp, because just yesterday I was wondering if Bill knew that band, and I highly recommend that song 'the light before we land' ...

ROCK ON BILL {#Music}

Anybody hear some Frente in this vocal?

Yes, now that you mention this.  It's particularly reminiscent of some of the stuff from Frente's second full album, Shape.  Alas, the stuff I've heard from their recent reincarnation is a pale echo of their original splendor.

Oooh, I love the little break-down in this...  never fails to evoke goosebumps (and I've had the album for awhile now).  Still not sure why... and that makes it even cooler.

Whoops... said this before apparently {#Redface}

BTW, I agree this is a tune I'd like to hear more often.

Hmmm, sounds like "Hem".

Eligible for SUPER RIP-OFF!! Jeez...and those big companies dare complain about their business model going down... (The album is great by the way...better download it for 10 bucks ;))

Wow... was forced to bump by the cool bridge. Goosebumpy for some reason.

lame and excellent all at once...
This is my new theme song
Such a beautiful melody. Perfectly fitting for a moody november evening.
Mesmorizing and seductive. Cheers!
Singer does sound like Edie Brickell. Good Radio Paradise type music
In the words of the great loggins "Smooth"
Thought it was Edie Brickell for a moment there. Now I see I wasn't the only one..
I haven't heard from this band since I saw them in Manchester in late 2000! Right on!!
quick.... someone upload "reasons for silence" by them.
*Loves it*
very nice!
Well, THAT was unexpected. Not the song, I mean, the fact that I downloaded it from iTunes before it even ended. I NEVER do that. Huh. But of course, the song WAS unexpected. Although, when I said, "THAT was unexpected," I meant my reaction to it, the iTunes download. Glad you're on board.
I could hear this song only deliberatively rarelye but when I must say to me, this is the truth

My first thought was Hem, too. And that's a good thing, IMO.
I could have sworn this was Kate Earl until I looked to see who it was.
Not what i expected from them at all - always had them down as a bit of a raaaaaawk band for some reason. Really like that!
This block of whiney music has frayed my last, good, nerve. Hide the razor blades...
I am guessing she doesnt like her hometown Maybe she came from Powell River as well It may not be the As* hole of the world .... but you can certainly see it from there

Awww, come on now Spicy - how can you resist Emma Pollock's oh so smooth crooning?? I much prefer Brandog's outlook!
Sounds way too much like Edie Brickell...and I mean that in a bad way.

I guess you would know since you are from the same place as the Delgados, Scotland (-a country I love). Seems a real shame they split up! This is from AMG, where the garnered pretty high praise -
While failing to earn the same critical notoriety and cultish devotion lavished upon countrymen Belle & Sebastian or Mogwai, the Delgados were in many respects the true epicenter of the contemporary Scottish pop renaissance. Through their renowned Chemikal Underground label, the group not only launched the careers of acts from Bis to Arab Strap, but their own recordings rank among the most sublime pop experiences in recent memory, blossoming from the lo-fi simplicity of their earliest work to an increasingly ambitious palette defined by achingly beautiful melodies, soaring string arrangements, and intricate waltztime rhythms. (click here) for more.
I looked for Emma Pollock (the vocalist on The Delgados) on Amazon.com and couldn't find her. I did find her in several places on the Internet using Google - (click here) for Google search. Emma has her own one-page web site - https://www.emmapollock.com/ on which she references another music web site, "4AD.com". On 4AD.com there is a good profile of her past and current efforts - a solo album will be recorded in Spring 2006! (We'll need to make sure Bill puts that on RP as surely it'll be a real charmer.)
