Lie down
Under stormy night, tell nobody
My brother, where do you intend to go tonight?
I heard that you missed your connecting flight
To the Blue Ridge Mountains, over near Tennessee
You're ever welcome with me anytime you like
Let's drive to the countryside, leave behind some green-eyed look-alikes
So no one gets worried, no
So no one gets worried, no
But, Sean, don't get careless
I'm sure it'll be fine
I love you, I love you
Oh, brother of mine
In the quivering forest
Where the shivering dog rests
Our good grandfather
Built a wooden nest
And the river got frozen
And the home got snowed in
And a yellow moon glowed bright
Till the morning light
Terrible, am I, child?
Even if you don't mind

No
its kind of like a zither...but different
And thanks to the 21st Century (and a 5G router) I can enhance the view by listening to hi-def Radio Paradise!
And for RP to follow with Portishead - amazing!
Instant PSD.
I my case I consider this a plus even if it was unintentional. And even if it was intentional, there are many examples of songs using the rhythm of the rails in their construction.

Wow...ya mean bands in 2000s are actually trying to get creative and experiment?
Not that I've known a lot of them, but the musicians that I know are trying to experiment all the time. The keys are whether audiences appreciate their efforts (performed live? probably. recordings to a wider audience? much less likely) and whether a record company can capitalize on it.

Two mandolin centric sounds in a row.
According to Wikipedia they're just off hiatus and working on new material. Take that for what it's worth....
I agree-with "White Winter Hymnal" a close second.
It's likely these guys never even heard either of those songs, none of them were born when those albums came out and Renaissance never got a whole lot of airplay, especially in the the US and in lifetimes of the members of this band. It's possible these guys have never heard any songs by Renaissance.
The chord progression is mostly an adorned I-IV (with some sixth and major sevenths thrown in) in a minor key - a sort of progression which existed before the 20th century. However, Fleet Foxes do seem to favor that full, layered acoustic sound which Renaissance often did.
Anyhow, those are good songs that you mentioned

Ashes Are Burning? You're kidding.
Still, I thought it was Boy & Bear.
Does'nt.
Do love the sounds of trains, tho - especially a train horn in the distance at night
Instant PSD.
What a pity! You've missed something great.

Being from, and having a home in the blue ridge mountains over near tennessee and all.
I read an article about them a couple of weeks ago. They are on hiatus right now - lead singer is finishing college degree. I think (this is from memory) he's writing songs still, and plans are for a new record but it may be a while before it gets out.
I guess five years of play here on RP will decide if Fleet Foxes are musically relevant. Seems like BillG doesn't want to forget them.

Miss you Shane
Here we go again RP listeners. If this lovely tune had been made by CSN@Y circa 1968 or Simon and Garfunkel circa 1966,this rating would jump from a "solid" 7.2 to a stratopheric 9.4 or so.While these fine but overrated 60's icons are obvious influences,"Blue Ridge Mountains"is by no means an inferior ripoff. The harmonizing is just as good,if not better than CSN@Y without the smug sense of self importance that pervaded so much of their music.

Well the followup was Helplesness Blues which is actually pretty well represented here, if you are a regular listener you have probably heard something from that album already. I actually like that album better than this one. However, this was a couple of years ago and now they have dropped off the planet. From what I heard it is a combination of too many of these type of bands saturating the market and the lead singer is like totally full of himself and turns people off. Meh, whatever. I think they are OK, but if they don't generate enough interest to maintain a living through music no one said that was a right to be able to do that anyway, it is a priviledge.
Overplayed.
I agree to disagree

yes, yes, yes. Annoying. PSD brought up a John Hiatt tune - aahhhh... much better!
You poor soul, stuck in a reverse universe.
7 8
Yes, a shameless rip-off. However, The Blue Ridge Mountains can be a very inspirational locale.

Goin' there this weekend!
A relatively new band for me. 7 to 8 tonight!
Agree!!
No cowbell. . . people want cowbell. . .
good point...
Dreadful vocals and awful harmonies? Really? Even though each one of the band members is extremely well versed in music theory and have a life-long musical background?
Compare the vocal harmonies of Fleet Foxes to Simon & Garfunkel or even The Beach Boys. There's no contest, Fleet Fixes trumps them all. You just don't like them because they are popular.
That and you probably wouldn't know real music if it walked up and laid its balls across your eyes.
God damn hipsters.
bullshit
well played...
well sung...
well orchestrated...
well produced...
well recorded...
dont get the HATE

Yes, many times worse. Made worse by the OTT critical acclaim heaped on these charlatans. Twinky wannabe America soundalikes with woefully weak tunes, dreadful vocals and awful harmonies. And beards.

No, I know I do like this song very much! Great!
I think they're great....
Me too! If you look at the comments you'll see that there are only a few misguided souls with a hate on for the band. Most of the RP rating audience likes the band.
I think they're great....
Yea, I agree it was not great, kinda so-so. But I tell you their latest release is much, much better. I was pleasantly surprised!
Did you hear any of it on RP first?
That is why I love the public library, grab it there first if its available and get a good listen before spending any money...
That about describes it for me too....resisting the urge to mute, always forget to turn it back up for too long.
Fleet Foxes
Franz Ferdinand
Fiery Furnaces
Friendly Fires
Foo Fighters
any more?
