six billion backs against the wall
now do we walk or run
this puzzle's falling into place
once more around the sun
remember when you were a kid
those days were all so long
but if we don't do this
somebody else will
three billion backs against the wall
a prayer for everyone
we saw the changing at the sea
another thing was done
remember when you could rely
those days are all but gone
and if we don't do this
somebody else will
if we don't do this
somebody else will
somebody else will
one billion backs against the wall
at least our feet were dry
I was an honour to myself
this storm would pass me by
remembering the things I did
I knew I would survive
but if we don't do this
somebody else will
if we don't do this
somebody else will
somebody else will
one billion backs against the wall
now do we walk or run
one thousand backs against the wall
now do we walk or run
one hundred backs against the wall
now do we walk or run
it's just your back against the wall

remember when you were a kid
those days are all but gone
if we don't do this

isn't it wild how some songs like this one become even more relevant as time goes on.

Wow, haven't heard this on RP in over 10 years. Brings back some good memories of those days.

"They just didn't do it right!" How many more dead do we need to find stealing from producers is not the way to go? How does one figure large social programs and gov't control are not exactly what they are? Especially the whole Nazis are not socialist thing is B.S. brought about by those who thought maybe that version was the possible way to go, then horrified by what happened and decided to gloss over their former support by saying they were not what they were, helped by Stalin deciding to claim "They turned right wing" to excuse why he ever entered a treaty with "Cousins in Socialism" Germany when both knew going in eventually they were going to be at war with each other. Barbarossa was just a bit ahead of schedule. Trotsky was too right wing in their opinion.

Music version of Martin Niemöller 's (attributed) verse
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

This one grows on you and just gets better and better. Bumped it from 7 to 8.
Love this song I have it on my I-pod! Can't stop listening!
pixel-pusher: I was going to remark on the wide-ranging high-hat technique where the cymbals are loosely touching when the pedal's lightly depressed, which allows an extended sizzle after being struck; as opposed to cinching them tightly together for a snappy smash, or striking them when widely separated producing a sound similar to a traditional crash ....
Got carried away there. Don't really like the song much, except for the high-hat.

I think it's interesting how that awful old basic hi-hat disco beat can be snuck into a cool song (along with bongos and a dramatic chord structure) to make a tasty contemporary groove.
Like it more each time I hear it! (It's the "Turin Brakes" sound that sets this apart from FM or other groups.)
Like it less each time i hear it xD Overrated and mediocre...

It's in my 10-CD player in my Sidekick (yes, I spend a lot of time driving.) It hasn't made the rotation yet - I'm still at Iron and Wine, after listening to my friend Lobelia's CD (dang, that woman can SING!)
I still love this, but I can't wait to hear the other stuff on the CD. I have all summer, driving to and from the nursery and making occasional trips up Lamoille Canyon for pictures and picnics. If the weather cooperates, it promises to be a beautiful season.
Really like this... but as I listen can't help thinking Fleetwood Mac

The CD is in my player now, except I can't seem to get past "If You Can't Rock Me" by the Stones for now. I have both Rachael Yamagata CDs from "Elephants/Teeth Sinking Into Heart" and possibly Rhea's Obsession. I haven't done enough driving to explore all 10 CDs, but I'm hoping to make a road-trip or two when the weather levels out. And Turin Brakes, Elbow, and Ludovico will be on the playlist.
So - I"m a slacker, but I'm a MOTIVATED slacker.
Don't sweat it.....We all are in some sense, maybe ? When are they going to play the song I like!
