Once again he walks with me
Along the beauty way
My winged messenger
My warrior child of clay
Waves crash
As his coat of many colors comes undone
Revealing to me the mystery
Dionysian love

Jeweled worlds are born
As passion pulls me in
Fragrant scent of spices
Perfume of his skin
Rushing into this heart of mine
To mingle with my blood
Reveal yourself again to me
Dionysian love

On this island in the ocean
At the edge of all we know
Vows again are spoken like we did so long ago
But to my soul I am speaking
My Dionysian love

See how far he travels out into the waiting worlds
To dance among the princes
And the radiant temple girls
Tasting all the splendid forms
The dream world is made of
And bringing it all back home to me
Dionysian love

On this island in the ocean
At the edge of all we know
Vows again are spoken like we did so long ago
But to my soul I am speaking
My Dionysian love

Tides pull with the motion of his hips
Honeyed words of ecstasy falling from his lips
Stars give approval from the sacred sky above
Reveal yourself again to me
Dionysian love

On this island in the ocean
At the edge of all we know
Vows again are spoken like we did so long ago
But to my soul I am speaking
My Dionysian love
Dionysian love

I love this, I thought it was Chrissie Hynde playing.

1993... I wonder why no stations were playing stuff like this.  Meanwhile they couldn't go 10 minutes without playing another Haddaway or Jon Secada song.

Don't knock haddaway

There's also a Dionysian Wiccan collective of all female witches.
Hey...is this one of them songs that lyrics of words you don't know, then you gotta look the up?

I don't know if I like that... getting smarter and such.
Yow!

I like the lyrics. A step up.  God of madness and insanity?  No wonder I felt a kindred soul.

There you go. I've found a little skipping mate for you.

Not doin' it for me. 2 and skip.

Yes, Dionysus is the god of the grape, wine harvest, and wine making, but also the god of insanity and ritual madness. We might be forced to ask Bill for a clarification.

Why doesn't Base Necessities get any play here?

I do know I've heard Trust in Me a few times on RP.... Still, my fav is Louis Prima's I Wanna be Like You.

iirc Bill plays Los lobos' version of Like You

The Eleusinian and Dionysian Mystery Religions of ancient Greece which many scholars believe to be psychedelic.

"Revealing to me the mystery of Dionysian Love"
Thought Rickie Lee Jones had upped her style!? Still a groovy track🥳🥰

Except she's about 19 years older. But yeah, I can hear the comparison.

Surprised she didn't get sued for borrowing too much from Ring of Fire.
Impressive talent here!!!
A lot like Tanika Tikaram?
First time I looked up 'Dionysian' was when Ray Manzarek, in an interview, used the word to describe Jim Morrison.

Pretty good song going to bump it up if I hear it again

It's vaguely similar in the pre-chorus but it's a different chord progression, though both songs have pretty rudimentary progressions

They file Eliza under "folk," where she was just nominated for a Grammy...but she's as tough as any rocker. Who else would write an ode to Hiway 9? (The road to Baghdad -- and it's a darn good song, too.)

I think I was at the show where she introduced that song. Cactus Cafe, and Baghdad was all over the news. She opened for Loudon Wainwright III, but she held her own. After the show I heard several people say 'I liked Eliza Gilkyson better'.

To be fair, Ol' Loudo is kind of an acquired taste.

ps: Good thing Bush 43 cleaned up Iraq, huh?
Ring of fire...
Rickie Lee Jones?
I so enjoy early Eliza rather than her newer stuff......although this is pretty commercial for her....Nice to hear tho'
There are so many good songs by Eliza Gilkyson but RP seems to play the ho hum ones, like this one. Maybe my tastes are different than Bill's :) But my favourites are: Wildewood Spring (from Beautiful World), Heart Of A Man (Lost and Found version), Richmond Boy (Lost and Found), to name only three. The last 2 show her sweet way of expressing love for a man. Why listen to female singers if they don't express a woman's point of view? A lot of her songs are political and "activist" in nature, but these show her heart. Just a suggestion to RP to keep mining Eliza's albums for more of those.
Strong voice, good and captivating   (kinda Dylan-esque : )
She uses big words.
There's a little melody somewhere in here that keeps reminding me of a Joanna Newsom song. I'd love to hear some Joanna Newsom on RP.

In my aged ear I hear 1988. I hear Tanita Tikaram (click here)
I'm not big on folk/country-ish music, but I really like her voice :)
thought i needed to adjust my speakers when the playlist said this wasn't another humdrum halfhearted attempt to remake the johnny cash classic "Ring of Fire". snoozer. sorry.
How could there be anything \"generic\" about pagan passion to a country tune ? Can\'t see it on the bill at the Opry next time Dubya stops in.
Saw here live a few months ago. Her father was a songwriter for Disney. She closed her set with one of her father\'s songs - \"Bare Necessities\" from Jungle Book.
Good energy here.
Melody during the chorus sounds like Johnny Cash... Very generic, derivative... I think at least there is some heart there... which gets it a 4.
Please, please, please play more Eliza. She is brilliant, and doesn\'t get the air time she deserves. Anything from Hard Times in Babylon would be great, especially, \"Engineer Bill.\" You must know it--be my holy man--play more Eliza.
