An interesting fact about this album that I only recently realized is that while the album is name "Morrison Hotel," the album actually has 2 names, one for each side of the record: "Hard Rock Café" and "Morrison Hotel".

So that must be where the restaurant chain Hard Rock Cafe got their name?

Been a long time now.  It took years to get that image out of my head.

Thankfully it is long gone.  It was a good movie though.  Not in any hurry to see it again and replant the image of Kilmer as Morrison back into my head one more time.  Even seeing Meg Ryan again as Pamela is not worth it.

Definitely different, and that's why I've always loved them. Morrison's spooky creativity, raw earthiness, and unpredictable fearlessness scared a lot of folks; I dig it!

The cover photo was taken by Henry Diltz at the actual Morrison Hotel, located at 1246 South Hope Street in Los Angeles. Diltz told the desk clerk they were going to take a few photos, and the clerk said they couldn’t without the owner’s permission and the owner wasn’t there. They took the pictures while the clerk was inside the elevator. The elevator numbers right under the ‘son’ in ‘Morrison’ are lit in the cover. The band jumped right behind the windows and hit their places without shuffling as Diltz took the shot...

I was listening to Trey Anastasio play solo on NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts (YouTube). After some of the much newer talent I'd seen behind that desk beforehand, he came across very week at first.  But after really listening to the unique signature of his voice, I could just dig it.

I do think that newer artists have inherited a counter-culture music scene infrastructure — a culture! — that encourages them to grow up from 9 or 10, often with parental encouragement (!), thinking of a career in pop/alternative/punk as a serious endeavor they can take on with hours and hours of practice, whereas earlier phenoms may have emerged more out of nowhere.

So newer music may have some greater talents in it just by virtue of the performers coming to it as a serious endeavor.
Compare Hozier to Trey under Tiny Desk Concerts, for example.

You can test your own comment as to whether it makes sense: track down and listen to the two albums the Doors put out after Morrison died ("Other Voices" and "Full Circle"). I've heard the latter one...don't think you'll be thrilled. 

Morrison wasn't always drunk and obnoxious. He definitely got that way as time went on and as the band was winding down. I'll leave it to others to pass judgment on his writing, although I believe he was better at writing lyrics than poetry. Then again, he was only 27 when he died...

I have to agree. I got into all of these bands about the same time. In high school of course many guys thought they wanted to be Jim Morrison. But then we grow up. While the Doors do have some great songs, this is an example of overly simplistic and repetitive lyrics, and music that fails to impress. I'll take a good riff from any of the above bands over this any day.

It turns out that putting together, side by side,  the music and art (painting, photo, etc.) is not easy.
And it's even harder when trying to put art works of high quality to illustrate a theme, in this case music, alongside, or in parallel, with a humorous comment, free, childish, and some completely stupid about the musicians and their work without the basic respect.
Then, as a result, artists are reluctant to allow the publication of their work.
And we all lose. Anyway, is this world we live .....

This is bad even for The Doors. Does this dropdown menu go to negative numbers?

tis intentional amp distortion with a plain old electric organ. Synth it was not.
 That is a big part of what makes this stuff so ground breaking.
What folks today use a Moog and computers for, bands like the Doors used settings on regular instruments to achieve.
