At first flash of Eden, we race down to the sea
Standing there on freedom's shore
Waiting for the sun

Can you feel it, now that spring has come?
That it's time to live in the scattered sun

The Doors: Pathetisch aber langweilig.
Why wait for the sun?
Because Mr. Microdot or Ms. Orange Sunshine said it is so and they spoke to you around 2 am.
Is it 25 or 6 to 4?

Thankfully it is long gone. It was a good movie though. Not in any hurry to see it again and replant the image of Kilmer as Morrison back into my head one more time. Even seeing Meg Ryan again as Pamela is not worth it.
Wonder what Jim Morrison would think what with every time I hear this song (now) I picture Val Kilmer. Come on now....I know you do, too!

Listening to this song with a great pair of phones shows just how great each musician is on what I consider their best album. New appreciation for Krieger. It's held up good to me.

Fantastic track,amazing album!
Why wasn't "Waiting for the Sun" rwleased on Waiting for the Sun? There was a copy of that album in our home in 1969. Strange days indeed (for a 9-year old).
Heute habt Ihr ein wirklich sehr gutes Programm. Gratulation

Definitely different, and that's why I've always loved them. Morrison's spooky creativity, raw earthiness, and unpredictable fearlessness scared a lot of folks; I dig it!
an art band which just happened, briefly, to gain incredible popularity. does not happen very often.
Let me see... Light my Fire, Break on Through, LA Women & Riders on the Storm?

Well at least it isn't one of the 4 tracks that have been overplayed by radio for almost 50 years.

The cover photo was taken by Henry Diltz at the actual Morrison Hotel, located at 1246 South Hope Street in Los Angeles. Diltz told the desk clerk they were going to take a few photos, and the clerk said they couldn’t without the owner’s permission and the owner wasn’t there. They took the pictures while the clerk was inside the elevator. The elevator numbers right under the ‘son’ in ‘Morrison’ are lit in the cover. The band jumped right behind the windows and hit their places without shuffling as Diltz took the shot...

Not true. We enjoy a lot of different things, and it's fine to hate the Doors, like I do. Morrison comes off like a high school self-important bully, and I don't need that in my music.
What's not OK is to hate the other RP listeners. It's fine to talk about the music, but let's stay away from insulting each other.
It isn't hard to do.
So you hate The Doors? Not ambivalent towards, dislike, don't care for, or won't listen to but actually HATE. This is music we're talking about.

I was listening to Trey Anastasio play solo on NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts (YouTube). After some of the much newer talent I'd seen behind that desk beforehand, he came across very week at first. But after really listening to the unique signature of his voice, I could just dig it.
I do think that newer artists have inherited a counter-culture music scene infrastructure — a culture! — that encourages them to grow up from 9 or 10, often with parental encouragement (!), thinking of a career in pop/alternative/punk as a serious endeavor they can take on with hours and hours of practice, whereas earlier phenoms may have emerged more out of nowhere.
So newer music may have some greater talents in it just by virtue of the performers coming to it as a serious endeavor.
Compare Hozier to Trey under Tiny Desk Concerts, for example.
Some Tiny Desk favorites include
Lucius
TuneYards (my capitalization varies)
Robyn Hitchcock (a geezer who seems to have found his voice in latest albums)
Daniel Lanois ('nother geezer)

Reading all the negative comments on this song as well as "Long Time Coming" by CS&N, and it seems divided into 2 camps - those who think it's time has come and gone and those who defend it over newer music. But why? Can't we like Morrisey AND Morrison? This is why I like RP and tune in quite a bit. It plays a wide variety, though I will freely admit it is more likely aimed at the 50+ crowd. Not that you can't enjoy it while younger. I don't think you "had to be there" to enjoy CS&N, just as you didn't have to "be there" to enjoy "Rite of Spring" or Ragtime or "Kind of Blue." Thank humanity for sound recordings! (And you know, instead of tellign everyone how much you hate the music, why not just change the channel? There are over 10,000 to choose from . . . .)

You can test your own comment as to whether it makes sense: track down and listen to the two albums the Doors put out after Morrison died ("Other Voices" and "Full Circle"). I've heard the latter one...don't think you'll be thrilled.
Morrison wasn't always drunk and obnoxious. He definitely got that way as time went on and as the band was winding down. I'll leave it to others to pass judgment on his writing, although I believe he was better at writing lyrics than poetry. Then again, he was only 27 when he died...
This may not make sense but I like everyone BUT Jim in the DOORS. He's just so obnoxious and drunk and WAY overrated as a writer.

Morrison's screaming in the middle of this song is absolutely terrifying.
Agreeing with some of the recent posts here...This bands music has not aged well.

I have to agree. I got into all of these bands about the same time. In high school of course many guys thought they wanted to be Jim Morrison. But then we grow up. While the Doors do have some great songs, this is an example of overly simplistic and repetitive lyrics, and music that fails to impress. I'll take a good riff from any of the above bands over this any day.
Never quite got the Doors... I'm sure they were remarkable for their time but the sound just doesn't hold up... not like Zeppelin or the Stones or even Black Sabbath.

And it's even harder when trying to put art works of high quality to illustrate a theme, in this case music, alongside, or in parallel, with a humorous comment, free, childish, and some completely stupid about the musicians and their work without the basic respect.
Then, as a result, artists are reluctant to allow the publication of their work.
And we all lose. Anyway, is this world we live .....
Yes, but we can change.

Man, does this remind me of my early 20's living in LA and trying to find the psychedelia in a grungy early 90's world... the results were kinda disturbing.

Ground breaking stuff. Not necessarily a stand alone great song unless you really like it in the first place. But when played with the rest of the album side in context it might sound better, unless you don't like the Doors at all, then never mind ...
Than, you critics turn off ... :). Love them, love them..since a teenage girl.....not their generation but anyway their music is fresh and up to date
