Take away your paper & pen
Stacks of money and your foolish grin
And go

Get me off the backwards ride
Take away your greedy way and go
See the woman standing at the door
World gone by ... Again and again
See the blisters growing on your feet
Pushed on... Pushed on
World gone by

Take away your companies
Take away your societies and go
Get me off this backwards ride
Take away your fictitious books of fact
See the woman standing in the door
World gone by ... Again and again
See the blisters growing on your feet
Pushed on ... Pushed on
World gone by

I wouldn't want to be
Living in a world of ecstasy with you

Wasted arms; wasted legs
Wrapped round this machine
Military machine

I wouldn't want to be
Living in a world of ecstasy with you

Taken' away your companies
Takin' away your societies and go.
Get me off this backwards ride,
Takin' away your ficticious books of fact.
Yeah, do mum-ba-si-be-ah

I was about to say that the bass is crazy on this.. You bet !
Reminds me a little of young Luka Bloom in regards to guitar, vocals and energy...
Sister Contine was my in to Rusted Root...yet another lesser known but fun band.
Oy, this is insufferable.
Oh, man, this is kicking!! Just found a new fave...
Last year I was at a friend's in Aruba and played this from my RP Favorites playlist for a crowd of locals. It was a huge hit! As one can imagine! :-)
An old favorite
Hey!  HEY!  (Jumping up and down on the floor, my neighbors ceiling).  Will you keep it DOWN down there!!?!  Stop all the racket will ya!?  Else...invite me over right now!  {#Bananajam}

After all you've got to admit...it may be short on musical substance but it is infectious ain't it?  Just like every great party that's busy getting busy.

The bass and drums are excellent on this tune (reminds me of Bow Wow Wow), the rest of it doesn't do as much for me however.  It certainly has a lot of energy though.
Joan Armatrading on wizz.  This is stressing me out.

Whooo boy....this one sets me back in recalling the first time I heard it.  It's a late summers night and I'm heading from NYC to the shore in my sporty car; with the windows rolled down and the sun-roof open.  {#Motor}  This tune comes on and I could....not....help...myself....the volume knob somehow got spun to +10.  Oh yeah....them's were the days....or was that daze?

Miniature marching.
Is that Cher on the lead vocal there?

6.5?!! 😳 Amazing tune!
This has to be one of the best "high energy" songs of all time!
nerve people sing a nervous song
Builds and builds and builds, they give it their all don't they?
This has always been one of my favorite tunes.  I think it is the rhythm in particular.
I've raised my number on this.........it works!      {#Smile}

I raise my rusty tuna can to toast the Root-boys! Must see their stage show... it's  ...ecstatic!

 Long Island nights never a dull moment and such an awesome music scene growing up as teen and early 20's.  Thanks for an awesome youthful memory.  BUTCH

Welcome addition to Send me on my way.
Percussion is excellent.

I remember them. There is a similarity, though I doubt Rusted Root ever heard of them.  As far as I remember, The Good Rats were primarily a NYC-area band.
{#Headache}
very talking heads-ish

I saw both 16 Horsepower and Rusted Root at the same HORDE Tour show in KC back in 1996, RR on the big stage, 16HP on the auxiliary stage. TBH I was more impressed with the boys from Denver, as David Eugene Edwards has a powerful presence on stage and I LOVED the accordion. Plus this was my first interaction with them.
Rusted Root was solidly good and I had decent seats, but they didn't seem to have quite the same energy and one of their female singers was unavailable or left the group, so they didn't perform a song I was really looking forward to hear.

Remember the Good Rats, don't remember them sounding like Rusted Root.  As for regional I my guess is more then likely, I was in upstate at the time there were well known.

Edit-just did a GIS on them and they are still around.

Goat boy, goat boy, goat boy.  The singer sounds like Goat Boy.

Adam Duritz and then this singer.  My morning isn't getting any better is it?
I'm not quite sure why but I've always liked these guys.  The vocalist could be an on-air warranty reader with his speed diction.

I'm listening to a live recording of this song right now. I thought I'd check out Radio Paradise, and I see it was played earlier today. Very nice. Thank you RP. Glad to good to know it's being played. BTW, I saw Rusted Root do a free show at the University of Minnesota in 2007. Assembly of Dust opened for them. Check out Rusted Root's new album, The Movement.
I saw these guys at warp tour when they were a little side stage show. The Allman Brothers were headlining and Dickie Betts got on stage with them.

Just what I need this morning, great guitar...
First time that I listen to them and I like them a lot, but I can't avoid to think about Talking Heads

Needs more Bobbodum bobbodadee.
The similarity between Rusted Root and Poi Dog Pondering is something to consider.  For people who lived the 90s in Chi-town.  PDP was a local mainstay.
Please, Bill, tell me this is tune is just one of your head games so I can sleep better tonight.  It's actually just a bunch of your buds having a hoot at our expense, right?  Bill?

I like this a lot, too, but RR's list of good songs is MUCH shorter than TH's.

(BTW, even though it looks like the rating should be more like 7.5 vs. 6.5, it's because the low ratings are further away from the "mode" than the high ratings are — in other words, it's easier to drag down a high score than it is to improve it; if there were 11s, 12s, 13s, etc. to rate, they could offset the low ratings — but there aren't.)

Bassline was lifted from Paul Simon's "Late In The Evening"

Yup, this is like Talking Heads, but not 100th as irritating. Nice percussion work. 7 from the Nottingham jury.

Always liked this one!

6  =  66

So how in the world is the average vote 6.5?  Do we need a Minnesota recount or two?  {#Naughty}

I remember seeing these guys open for the Allman Bros at red rocks years ago... Not expecting a thing (especially after seeing the spin doctors flop the year before). Anyway, rusted root came out and floored everyone. They didnt do much since then but I will always love them for that set.

I like pretending I can sing along to this one. *flips tongue all around* Yeah, I nailed it. K, honestly? How can you NOT dance?

Both the singer and the staccato/heavy accoustic guitar sound a LOT like Luka Bloom, in his more up-tempo songs. BTW that's good.

Geez. That's wild. Ok. This guy,Michael Glabicki ,sounds like David Byrne who has an amazingly similar physical singing style to the guy who just played,Michael Franti. I even put up a post about it in the Franti thread but deleted it because I thought it was to obscure. This guy doesn't have the same chops to dig deep into his diaphragm while choking the airflow at the base of the throat to get what I call the "straining to take a dump" sound. He just sounds superficially like Byrne,without the vocal strength. Not that Byrne is my favorite,but what a technician. (To obscure,right?)
