Steven Wilson is playing a cover of Space Oddity with his accompanying vocalist Ninet Tayeb at all his live shows. It is very good and in typical Steven/Porcupine Tree Style.

This lends nothing to this song. Its nice in its own way and heard here is almost palatable, but anywhere else and I'd reach for the knob/button/switch. Meh.

Yep, "insipid" came to my mind as well. Wakeman's succeeded in taking all of the interest, quirkiness and emotion out of the Bowie song, leaving a technically-accomplished but empty husk of a song. Still, it's less irritating than his baroque noodling for Yes...

Very nice, understated, brought me into the song.

Whoa, just checked on Amazon, this recording is way out of print and way expensive.  Thanks for introducing me to this recording.

When this came on I didn't know who was playing it and thought 'Who dares doing this kitsch?". Oh. Wakeman. Terribly sorry. As the (than young) studio musician brought in to play piano and keys on 'Space Oddity', he has probably more rights than anyone else to do this tribute. Respect and gratitude.
