Last night your shadow fell upon my lonely room
I touched your golden hair and tasted your perfume
Your eyes were filled with love the way they used to be
Your gentle hand reached out to comfort me
Then came the dawn
And you were gone
You were gone, gone, gone

I had too much to dream last night
Too much to dream
I'm not ready to face the light
I had too much to dream
Last night

The room was empty as I staggered from my bed
I could not bear the image racing through my head
You were so real that I could feel your eagerness
And when you raised your lips for me to kiss

Came the dawn
And you were gone
You were gone, gone, gone

Oh, too much to dream
Oh, too much to dream
Too much to dream last night
Oh, too much to dream

What is it with '60s bands (some of them one hit wonders) that had the names of foods in them? Moby Grape, Vanilla Fudge, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Electric Prunes...I think I'm missing one or two, but this evening I've indulged my '70s-era need for an occasional puff of weed (just way better shit in '24) and it seems to have affected my usually stellar name-that-tune recall.

Amazing! Mind boggling actually, I mean have not heard this in over 20 years or more but yesterday I bumped into it on u-tube and listened to the beginning then went on with life thinking that it was neat to hear it again and let it go. Then this morning here it is. Some kind of subtle connection going on? I have no idea, but it is uncanny!

I believe they refer to it as coincidence.

no. It’s a yawner & inane & annoying,
Too much to think last night…
Sixteen when  this first came out and was sure they were singing "I had too much to drink last night!"  Still hear that refrain even today.

Good tune.
And I also  had too much to drink last night.

I don't know; those kind of "weird", incongruous band names were a popular trend around 1966 and '67.   Their's may not even be the the worst band name of the era (e.g.:  Moby Grape, Blues Magoos, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Chocolate Watch Band, Lothar & The Hand People, etc...)   Anyhow, I think those two names you mentioned are far worse, but it's all subjective anyhow.

Ultimate Spinach!
Story of my non Waking Life. I can only wish I was a fully lucid dreamer - then I'd have some control over pacing and content. While I am often conscious within my dreams that I am dreaming, and on occasion can change the course of a dream through lucid control, more often than not my nights are filled with an ongoing rollercoaster of hyper intense dreams in full Sensurround and Technicolor. Most mornings I wake up exhausted. I often find myself staggering into my morning routine with my inner jukebox playing this or I'm Tired (of Waking Up Tired)'.
This used to get a lot of AM radio play back in the day.

Enjoy it.  Sure makes me feel old.

Always thought he was saying "drink".  Obviously I was to young to understand the drift.
I have too much to dream every night. Lucid dreamer here!
Classic early psychedelia. There must have been something in the 1960s water to inspire band names alluding to fruit and other foods . Strawberry Alarm Clock, Moby Grape, Vanilla Fudge, Electric Prunes and more I could recall but for those dang 1968 soma peanut butter and jiffy  jelly flashbacks I keep having.

No, I think The Butt Hole Surfers hold the distinction for that accolade.

I always thought the song was "I had to much to drink last night"...all these years.

I would have given that distinction to Kenny Rogers for "I just Dropped in to See What Condition My Condition Was In".

{#Drunk} so much of what I hear today sounds very influenced by this stuff I love it !

Excellent selection. I was feeling a little bit electrically constipated, you know- out of touch with the deranged 60's 'me'... I did however used to believe this band was the salvation from the sickening surf music shit my band was forced to play, nonstop. My thinking may have been a little , ...um,  ...*clouded* those days however.

I was so in love with this song when it came out, and I think it's still a great 60's acid rock song...

That is awesome!  Does anybody know when reel to reel tapes of full albums were discontinued by record companies.  I'm guessing it had to be sometime in the late 70's, right?
I really hate this song...

Yeah !  Our our ole folks homes are gonna smell of incense, not disinfectant.

And broccoli will be more than just what's for dinner.
for a second I though it was the Dukes of the Stratosphere!

Playing the 45 in my room - mom standing in doorway - shakes head and walks away.  Gotta love her.

Cosmic, man.  Yeah, lobby muzak for the boomer old folks home.  Reckon I should be getting my reservation ...

HA!! Electric Prunes! Still a great sound.
Do you think electric prunes help regulate the power grid?
the beginning reminded me of "Summer Wine" by

Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood

Too groovy, even back then this was the pap end of psychedelic.
{#Daisy}   LOVE LOVE LOVE!!

It;s got a really great song on it called "The Rickenbacker 12 String".
A great tribute to the Byrds.
I uploaded it a few back (2005)... sorry  23/8  74%.

Electric prunes must have been one weird trip.

The over 50s in the audience may remember one of the great moments in early TV advertising when a laxative ad inquired of prunes, "Is two too many; is one enough?" You can still get a chuckle from certain age groups with this line. And an interesting discussion of the effects of stewed prunes if you search for "is two too many, is one enough."

Adrian Belew said that you got to remember that songs like this (and Strawberry Fields Forever) are best listened to on an old AM radio playing in your parent's kitchen while your mom makes dinner.

another psychedelic era is always needed, no hygeine or not...{#Fire}

Hahahahahaha!

I know the era produced some trippy stuff, but c'mon. That had to be pretty bad even then.

Yes, instantly recognizable and fun. Didn't this song rip some riffs from an Eric Burden & Animals song?

I really like this song, but yeah, you're right.
It never ceases to amaze me how many songs I recognize instantly, within the first bar! What a rush from the past! And what an amazing thing the brain is!
I always did like this tune. Though it was, by the time I heard it, quite old.
We all know Bill is the king of the segue, but WOW!! That was MAGICAL! 5:30 pm - The Electric Prunes - I Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night) 5:23 pm - Guster - Ruby Falls
Used to know one of the guitarists in the Prunes, after he became a computer tech in Chico. Had great stories of their glory days, including a situation where the lead singer freaked out, tried to bail out of a tour, flew to LA, and was met at the airport by two large guys in suits who persuaded him that it was in his best interests to get back on the plane and fly back to finish the tour. Looks like they brought out a new album in 2004.
The timing on this one was impeccable
I did have too much to drink last night. Well not too much, but too much for a Thursday.
Blimey - where did RP dig this one up from - must have been deep in vault!
