I took my love and I took it down
I climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow-covered hills
Till the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changing ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?

Well, I've been afraid of changing
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder, even children get older
And I'm getting older too

Well, I've been afraid of changing
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder, even children get older
And I'm getting older too
Oh, I'm getting older too

Ah, take my love, take it down
Ah, climb a mountain and turn around
And if you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills
Well, the landslide will bring you down
And if you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills
Well, the landslide will bring you down
Oh, the landslide will bring you down

Minority opinion: Fleetwood Mac just never really landed with me. Can't say why, exactly. This song is okay, but prolonged overplaying for many years has killed it for me. Sorry.
As an older lady,  this song is like me looking in a mirror.  The tears come but oh my lord, Stevie nails the situation for so many of us.
Tear Jerking.
I don't award tens too often, but this is purely a great song.

Interesting. Same sequence 6 months later. I wonder if Bill re-uses playlist chunks--or just knows what a great segue these two songs create.

I like this song alot. What do you all think of Billy Corrigan's version?

It's fine. The guitarwork is great, but the vocals are typical Billy, so it kinda averages out. He's a talented guy that Corgan, but don't tell him I said so.  ;p

So Lindsey was ok I guess?  It was a package deal.  And this is from a guy who remembers Bob Welsh being in the band.

One of those songs that just lends itself to being covered. Stevie's is my first love and I bow low to her writing skills! The Chicks version is sublime indeed and I love the Smashing Pumpkins version.

Goose bumps every time I hear this song.

The first season of your life you're in are you?  That's okay.  You can feel this way if you like.  We all do.  You'll change.  We all do, too.

IMHO the best of Fleetwood Mac was before Buckingham and Nicks joined. This song is one of the exceptions to that rule.
A 10 with a tear
What a great group!

Good one :)

On the other hand, getting a year older when you're 16 is a 6,25% increase. The same at age 50 is only 2% so there is some truth in it :)

The original and the best. How many times do I have to buy this album? Not that I mind ..
Beautiful! Puts me in a state of bliss.
Have the vinyl, cassette, and CD
Very beautiful, Stevie  {#Daisy}
I was listening to this CD in the car today and thinking "Damn, that's a beautiful song".
That "and I'm getting older too" line gets me every time.
great song
This song gains more meaning to me as I get older.
Stellar song from that year! I'd built a Gaudi-like treehouse with killer views on 3 levels; this was forever on my little boom-box up there.
amazing first time i heard it and every time since
just one of those compositions that is simply that
a tone poem
a composition and ballad which has withstood time and will continue
Beautifully plaintive.
There's a special place in my heart for this one.

No...but you could say she was livin' life in the fast lane back then...{#Motor}

Who knew she'd live so long.  But then again...we all think that way, eh?

Believe and Love
This is one of the cases (there are many) where I fell in love with a song (Smashing Pumpkins) only to learn it was a cover...

I am hopelessly biased to the cover in this case...it gets a 10.   I give this a 9.  Probably no justice in that...so it goes....

beautiful song from a truly great album...

This would make a good Budweiser commercial song............

If you are a Stevie fan, no other version can compare.
This is the definitive performance.

Everyone in the dojo loves this song.

can I give it a 2 and a 9?

Really?  I think if you are going with a cover of this then it should really be Smashing Pumpkins

We're all getting older all the time (even children). In fact, I'm now about 10 seconds older.

Not my favorite Mac song. Makes me sleepy.
Unquestionably my fav FM song
It's finger-pickin' good, Lindsey.
Classical, beautiful, exellent!
Drones on and on...I just never felt this one.

Definitely a track I never, ever need nor want to hear again.

I agree wholeheartedly!  And many of their albums, this included, are worth their weight in gold!

 hcaudill wrote:

I'll second that.  But I can't ignore that the D Chicks' version sounds fresh to me, while this one still has faint echos of its exhaustive airplay decades ago.  If I heard both versions anew at roughly the same time, this softer, subtler version may get the nod.  Without question though, the cover made me listen to the song with new ears and made me realize just how good it was.  Leo Kottke's version of 'World Turning' did the same, though In that case I definitely prefer Leo's version.

I cannot stand the "newer" version of Fleetwood Mac.  Most of my buddies listened to them because girls listened to them and Stevie Nicks was hot.  I missed the melodies and rythms with the Bob Welch-Christine McVie lineup, and still do.

Bashing Rumours and this album successfully is like swimming upstream in a flooding river.

quite simply beautiful

One of my favorites...  Stevie's voice really shines in this one.

I'll see your criticism and up you one, 'cause I started losing interest when Welch came in.  Penguin was forgettable; Mystery to Me was pretty good.  Then it all started going bland and pop-ish, and I just stopped listening, basically.

Go for it.  I think that every iteration of Mac had its merits, but yer entitled to your view.

Simply awful!
This song grows more meaning to me as I grow older.  I hate to admit that I'm getting older, though.

This song gathers more meaning for me as I grow older.  I hate to admit that I'm growing older, but if I was it would gather more meaning...  I've always loved Stevie Nicks.
OK, I'm back on board with this. It happens that I spent a part of this last weekend rereading Mick's intriguing autobiography, Fleetwood, and can handle revisiting this now in light of the historical picture.
Lindsey Buckingham is an excellent musician.

I understand what you say here, but you do also realize, I hope, that not every listener to this station has your history. There is always a population of your fellow humans who have not heard these songs on the radio all through the 1980s and 1990s, etc. It is also worth noting that there are some very good piece of music that, through no fault of theirs or of their composers, have been overplayed. This in itself does not diminish the inherent qualities in these pieces. It is a bit like the same damned articles that get written in magazines and newspapers, over and over. It can be annoying if you are one who has read these pieces or their close relatives for years, but there is always a new cohort of younger folks who have not been exposed to these things. I do note that you emphasized that this refers to your life, which suggests that you do get my point.
Yay! And thank you for playing the original version, instead of the inferior live version that was getting a ton of airplay more recently!!
I loved it when Xena did this one Saturday Night Live as "Stevie Nicks Burrito Emporium". Damn funny stuff.
I'm surprised to see Bill plays this fairly regularly; this is the first time I've heard it on RP. Straight to 9, along with anything else from this album.
