Colors on the street
Red, white, and blue
People shufflin' their feet
People sleepin' in their shoes
But there's a warnin' sign on the road ahead
There's a lot of people sayin'
We'd be better off dead
Don't feel like Satan
But I am to them
So I try to forget it, any way I can.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

I see a girl in the night
With a baby in her hand
Under an old street light
Near a garbage can
Now she puts the kid away,
And she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life
And what she's done to it.

That's one more kid
That will never go to school
Never get to fall in love
Never get to be cool

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

Given what we have now, I'm in.
And he's still a bad ass.

Just ask that goofball Joe Rogan.

Ha!

Too true. Much like Springsteen's "Born in the USA" a few years earlier.
Applicable to current situation; Except where Joe Rogan is concerned
And the lyrics still bode well today, rock on Neil✌️

Wow, this comment has not dated at all.
He married THE Daryl Hannah?
Usually I like Neil's unique voice, but I find this live version a little over the edge whiny.

Great to hear such diverse music on RP, keep it up! Been years since I heard this..
Had the awesome experience of seeing Neil Young once in 1991 in the Old Boston Garden, great show, just before 1st Gulf war started and the place was charged, the music excellent and the politics was a simple yellow scarf hanging from the mic.  The second time was at Fensbury Park England in 1993, with Pearl Jam and James rocking the end of the show out with this song.  Great experience.
Just like there is no free lunch there is no free world.
Freedom is an illusion.
Wonderful stuff from Neil. 👌🎶

Second that. This just doesn't stand up with just an acoustic guitar for me. Craving the Horse right now.

Agree 100%.
Trump's use of this song just further demonstrates his complete ignorance, arrogance and buffoonery.

This is one of those songs that actually sound better with drums, electric guitars and backing vocals. Always great to hear mr Young, though.

The song would be a lot better if his singing voice wasn't so annoying...
Neil Young "Eldorado" Live Acoustic 1990 (5th track of Neil's 1989 album "Freedom"):

In the crystal ball
The gypsy sees the villa
The riders on the hill
The fire in the fields
She sees the mission bell
Swinging in the silence
Now the shooting starts
The bullets pierce the hearts
The seqoritas crying at the well.

Up in the Gold Hotel
The money hits the table
The heavies all are there
That's why the deal's goin' down
Beautiful women all dressed in
Diamonds and sable
Down upon the street
Beside a garbage heap
A Mariachi band begins to play.

Somewhere a blues guitar
Plays echoes in the alleyway
The Tijuana dawn
Claims another day
The golden sun
Rises on the runway
The pilot understands
The money changes hands
Inside the jet
the briefcase snaps. Goodbye.

In Eldorado town
There lives a great bullfighter
His eyes are screaming blue
His hair is red as blood
And when the gate goes up
The crowd gets so excited
And he comes dancin' out
Dressed in gold lami
He kills the bull
and lives another day.

Not exactly one of my favorite songs from Neil but still a solid 8 and a 10 for the lyrics.

Awsome performance of Neil Young & Crazy Horse tonight Sep 29, 2012, in Central Partk, New York. Neil, at its best, continues to dominate the stage, aged 66, with vitality, emotion, conviction and delusion of the beginning of his career. It is truly amazing. Thanks for everything and "good to see you".

I'd like to add "Reality" tv to that list.  I'm proud to say that I have not watched more than an hour of reality tv in the last 10 years.  And while I do love watching football (and in a past life, a good joint), I made it a point not to check out of the real world.  I still have to buy gas, food, and internet access, but at least I know I'm getting screwed while I'm doing it.

2004 On stage; 1 Neil Young - 2 Bruce singing the second verse; 3 Max Weinberg giving the song a great backbone on drums; 4 Pegi sharing a backup mike with Nils Lofgren who used to play a lot with Neil, 5 Michael Stipe and John Fogerty looking OK.

Pearl Jam - Rockin In The Free World, Live

"Immagine in Cornice"

"Got this DVD yesterday! Even my grandad liked it!"

"Released more than a decade past its peak in popularity, Pearl Jam proves it still has what it takes to captivate an audience with the concert film Immagine in Cornice. Culled from footage taken throughout the band's 2006 tour of Italy, the film captures the preternaturally youthful Eddie Vedder mesmerizing audiences with his full, rich voice" (from Amazon.com)

Hey - this is rock n roll.  Do you want Pavarotti singing this?  But despite this, granted, his voice has deteriorated over the years, but have you ever listened to Live at Massey Hall 1971 or some of those early recordings that are included in his recent box set?  His voice is absolutely incredible, whether live or in the studio.

Yes, Dylan is a good analogy. If we were talking film I would compare him to Michael Caine. Caine believes in keeping busy, so he'll take on many projects, some of them good and some of them bad. Of course, you never know how an album or a film will turn out, you begin them with high hopes for the finished product. As for this song, I like it but I'm not crazy about this version. I remember seeing him preform this song, with Crazy Horse, on Saturday Night Live just after the album came out. He played it with ferocious energy, it was awesome, and he had a blue maple leaf on his torn jeans....go leafs go.

Neil's Neil....his quirky wonky-ness makes him unique, do really think he gives a flying duck what people think of his voice?

A few years back I worked for a summer on an ecology research crew on the north rim of the Grand Canyon.  The crew leader had an old acoustic guitar and some nights we sat at Toroweap Overlook, an abrupt edge a couple thousand feet above the dark brownish churning waters of the Colorado River and sang this song to the red tail hawks and thunderheads. I read "Shakey" last summer. Occasionally the author can be a tad annoying but overall it's excellent. All those 70's albums are great. It was pretty slim pickings in the 80's but he rebounded in the 90's with some good CDs. Enjoy!
