All my life, I worshipped her
Her golden voice, her beauty's beat
How she made us feel
How she made me real
And the ground beneath her feet
And the ground beneath her feet
And now I can't be sure of anything
Black is white, and cold is heat
For what I worshipped stole my love away
It was the ground beneath her feet
It was the ground beneath her feet
Go lightly down your darkened way
Go lightly underground
I'll be down there in another day
I won't rest until you're found
Let me love you, let me rescue you
Let me bring you where two roads meet
O come back above
Where there is only love
Only love...
My oh my, My oh my
My oh my, My oh my
My oh my, My oh my
My oh my, My oh my
My oh my, My oh my
Let me love you true, let me rescue you
Let me bring you to where two roads meet
Let me love you true, let me rescue you
Let me bring you to where two roads meet
My oh my, My oh my
My oh my, My oh my
Her golden voice, her beauty's beat
How she made us feel
How she made me real
And the ground beneath her feet

No, it's true. If you compare pre and post Zooropa work, you'll notice how bad they become. Rehashed and forced guitars, THIN, stretched and broken voice of Bono. Non-memorable songs, nowhere near close their prime time. More like U2-wannabe band.
And I remember Bono saying: "as soon as our music gets worse, I'm off". Meh, he said that ~20 years ago. But for the Hypocrite lifetime achievement award, he should be No.1 without a doubt.
You mean YOU'LL notice. While your opinions are your own, and you're welcome to them, these lack any foundation in reality. U2 has followed their own style, sound, and direction since the beginning. The albums that follow Zooropa did just that... extend their sound the way THEY wanted to.
At best your argument comes down to, "U2 still sounds like U2. I just can't imagine why they didn't morph into Hooverphonic or Thievery Corporation,... hypocrites".

I like this and I like U2 - if you've travelled in their shoes through what they've achieved then you would probably agree they deserve to have off times but when they hit the highs they were amazing. I still give them respect.

This a sad, over-produced mess, by a band that has gone out to sea with the soulless music tide.

U2, some tunes I like, most I don't, I think it depends on the producer, but over all, I think its a good example of how the world is today.. They are in the top 5 richest bands and I have the belief that they have been blagging it every step of the way, just like most of the politicians!

I was at the reading at the Harvard Sq. Book Fair when Salmon Rushdie announced that U2 was doing a song based on his writing. He seemed extremely tickled by the idea and grinned widely, so as to say "I'm hip! I'm hip! After all these years, I'm finally hip!" The whole reading was fun and he displayed a grand sense of humor. He was just getting around after the fatwa had been lifted so there was still a bit of security around. I felt like he deserved a little fun after all the years of being in hiding.

I've only watched it twice at home. While I wouldn't say it's brilliant, it definitely has a special appeal to me. Somehow after watching the movie I felt that there were quite a few interesting stories left to tell about the not-so-average residents.
Really like the OST as well. "Falling At Your Feet" is another U2 gem.

This is officially the last really good song U2 produced.
I am only really hearing this for the first time. How is this possible for a passionate U2 fan? What was I doing in 2000 that distracted me? It's wonderful.

Not the best song but something a little different from one of the top 5 bands ever to put out a record. Can't believe the haters on this forum - what is going on people - and the boys haven't lost it ATYCLB was their 4th peak IMHO - after War, Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby. HTDAAB had many fine tunes on it. Their most recent concert tours have been outstanding.

To not know that this is U2 is puzzling. Probably the most recognizable voice and guitar in music today. As all music will not appeal to everyone, not all artists can please all. Because I like U2's "sound" I like this song albeit not as much as many of their others.

Totally agree! Besides, everyone is entitled to their opinion on these pages.... even if I question someone's else taste, it is still MY opinion. And watching other people get SO bent out of shape is hilarious.....
I can't believe The Edge made the Rolling Stone list of top 100 guitarists. One-lick wonder that he is -- oh wait, make that one-note wonder. But he sure manages to look good while he's playing the same thing over and over, song after song, and i guess that counts for a lot with some people.

At the risk of starting a different war of words: given that you've rated two Jethro Tull songs a 10, your utter lack of musical taste is quite clear. Sorry, but the flute has no place in rock and roll. Period.
I fully disagree, and can quite well imagine U2 a 1 and two Jethro Tull's a 10.
No harm there. I probably have the same, and I do not lack any taste. It's just my taste, and I give shit if it ain't yours.
So I'm all on hitz's side here.
With another band I'd give it a higher rating, but U2 has set the bar so high that this just alright.

Yeah really
Jethro Tull is the worst band ever
Isn't it teeny "bopper"? Not that I know exactly what that is, except it rhymes with hopper. That works, somehow.
whenever the intro to this song comes on, i think i'm about to hear Jeb Loy Nichols' "As The Rain".
i miss hearing that one from time to time. such a great track.
oh yeah, and this one's decent too.
Love this one from the Million Dollar Hotel soundrack(should pick it up!). Never saw the movie...looked strange...and stranger to see that little guy from ET has REALLY grown up and rolling around with Mila Jovovich (sp?)!! eek! But yeah the song...love all their work with Lanois (sp?)--genius, pure genius, and oh, that Edge guitar just cuts to my core--amazing.

:P Well put! And furthermore, there is no way any music critic can put U2 in that kind of category...their lyrics have way too much depth, their musical talent is astounding, and how many teen band frontmen do you see traversing the globe, coming to the aid of every humanitarian effort known to man?

Commercial drivel.
U2 blows! Teenie boper music for 12 year old girls.
Not on a great eclectic alternative station.

God, I love this song--back to their mid-career good stuff!
Oh yeah: there's a movie of the novel in the works, by the same guy (name forgotten) who made a terrific adaptation of Proust a couple years ago. U2 did this song for that film, but then a deal they'd made and forgotten showed up, and they had to slot it in for Million Dollar Hotel. Not too terrible a film, but this song has no place in it, really.

Thank you for mentioning the novel! I was about to, but when I scrolled down I saw that you already had. Anyone who has read the book should realize that this isn't teeny bopper music! Like another poster, I wasn't a U2 fan until I was in my twenties, and I'm still not that much -- but the book is wonderful!

I used to be a 12 year-old girl, and when I was, I didn't like U2. 14 years later now, I do appreciate some of their work. However, nowhere in that time span can I claim to have been a "boper", (much less a teenie one) so I won't venture an opinion on what bopers might think of U2.At risk of being thought of as a 12-year girl, I actually like U2 quite a bit. Well, the mid-career stuff at least.
Man whatever folks
This is currently my favorite U2 song ;)

Whereas I wish Bono's voice would just get lost.
they are becoming a most annoying band although their earlier stuff are masterpieces.

OK. I\'ve only sporadically listened to RP today and this is the third U2 song. Stop it! There are so many other better bands out there. Try some of them.
U2 has become too much on the radio but this song I like
