With trunks of memories still to come
We found things to do in stormy weather
Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
Long may you run.
Well, it was back in Blind River in 1962
When I last saw you alive
But we missed that shift on the long decline
Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
Long may you run.
Maybe The Beach Boys have got you now
With those waves singing "Caroline No"
Rollin' down that empty ocean road
Gettin' to the surf on time.
Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
Long may you run.
Interesting life and character. Wish him the title if this song.
What a hypocrite he's become. A hippy boomer who wrote and sang about standing up to the man reflecting the anti-war culture back 50-60 years ago. And now he's in lockstep with the government's stance on the covid vax hoax. It used to be that musicians, and most Americans I would add, believed in free speech. Now the libs/progressives support total censorship and not dialogue. Which is what the JRE represents BTW. I hope and pray that NY gets his time with Joe to express his views. But he probably won't. And if he did, Joe would eviscerate him, and that would be absolutely glorious!
The most recent stats -- 15,000,000 direct and related COVID fatalities globally -- does not suggest HOAX. That's a worldwide equivalent of over 1.75 New York Citys. Over 40% of the population of Canada.
If you or others have/had a superior, effective and verified means to deter such a potentially lethal ailment other than a vax, please share, provided it's not UV bleach, ivermectin, Jared Kushner masks, or evangelical prayer. Perhaps the true hoax is in wheedling millions of people to believe it's a hoax. Like the Big Lie. Like the pedophile ring in the basement of the Philadelphia pizzeria. Like the WMDs.
One measure is the daily quotient of hourly ambulance sirens that roared through the Brooklyn intersection at the front door of my apartment building. I'm 4 blocks from a Level 1 hospital trauma center, and people were emergencies or dying by the hour around here from April 2020 to 2021. 40, 50+ sirens a DAY. Ambulance drivers in great distress. So please jam that idea of a covid vax hoax and no vax is good vax where the sun don't shine. NY does not think you're HELPLESS, but he urges you to get back to the garden to find a real fox, not those puppet propaganda morons on the same-name cable station.
Thanks again Neil for speaking "truth to power" (Joe Rogan, Spotify)
We need more much of this, in today's world
This is just all kinds of backward. Speaking truth to power has always been about the little guy standing up to the powers that (should not) be.
(February 2, 2022)
And what is the power you speak of?
Idiocracy? Comforting lies over difficult truths? Rogan has many talents, but he is misusing the power of the platform his talent and industry has given him. Still love some of his standup - especially the bit about the dolphins.
And what is the power you speak of?

I disagree. He is way too clean.
Perhaps only NY could have written a wistful love song about his car. And if you look up his Lincvolt website, he no longer even likes fossil fuel cars! Springsteen has written a few tracks about cars, or what happens in them or because of them, but only NY has delivered a romance ballad about one of his first meaningful relationships with a girl who had chrome bumpers.
LOL..'chrome bumpers"
Beautiful. I fell in love with the version off Decade, but the twanging guitar in the background of this version adds something special.
I first acquired a taste for NY 49 years ago, when my sister brought home After the Gold Rush. I was 9-years-old. Birds, in particular, caught my attention.
Long may you run.
Did not work out so well for his wheels. People, autos, the metaphor works.
Not just Neil's car but his hearse
From ashes to ashes, for better or worse
Neil looks so hot in this photo. Oh, those were the days!

Great comment Strato!! I acquired my taste 50 years ago in junior high when he was with Buffalo Springfield.

Ditto! I'm 43 and grew up dancing to his Comes A Time album.

You (and this comment) just got an on-air shoutout by Mr. Bill. Never heard that happen before, although maybe it has. Cool!
It's a pretty bad hat; I'll give you that. ; )

Me 44!
What he said.
"The man in black fled across the desert,
and the gunslinger followed."
..... yea, me to :)
Ditto!
His voice could be the vinegar contrast. As he does it, he's merely mixing vinegars. IOW a little is good. Enough is too much.

Sorry about your friend, heaven is a better place... I remember this song being used in the TV show "Wonder Years" when they got rid of the family car. They watched it being pulled away to the junkyard and they used this song over clips of all the good times they had in the car.
I acquired it 43 years ago.
I often have that same dilemma...
I've known a lot of people that I've liked a lot less than I like my car.

Neil Young - Long May You Run, Live
From DirecTV's broadcast of Farm Aid 25: Growing Hope for America, Neil Young performs "Long May You Run" at Miller Park in Milwaukee on October 2, 2010. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers.
Amazing performance. His voice is still perfect. vanderaa

Has the deep concept that, your not the only one listening to RP, played through your brain, or is that too on mute ?
Is English your second language?
Neil's voice got richness, incredible emotions and a color that only belong to him. I love his singing.
You don't have to fit in a perfect square to be great in life.
I have loved Neil's voice since I was a young child listening to music with my big brother; he was a big Neil fan. Special moments with my big bro'. He just got married last week. Congrats Dave!
I love this particular song because it was written for a vehicle and not a woman or a cause. And it always creates visions of sunshine, sand, and a VDub van parked on the beach, with the prospect of a bonfire and a view of a moonrise or a really great sunset. That he can conjure an image like that should be testament enough that he knows how to turn a phrase.
Love this song.
Maybe it was OJ....

You know David's better! That's why you give him more attention than any other artist on RP. We've had you figured out for some time now Essex.
Welcome back ya old Texan, you! We definitely missed you.
One of my Neil Young favourites!
echoes of Romeotuma...
I actually came here to see if he wrote that yet....<looking around>

Sublime.
Here's a map of Blind River, Ontario for the curious. Canadian precambrian Shield country. Spitting distance from Michigan, USA.
Ha. My hometown is almost on that map. Just a little further north of North Bay, and I could wave up and out at you all.
Sublime.

College friends, catching the early waves in innocent times. Had to give it a 10. Sorry.
Hell, dude, don't be sorry. This is a great song, and that's an excellent story.

Uh, like NY or not, that would be 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and 00's icon. This song is from the 70s, but the performance is from the 90s.
And it's as good as most things from this century.
on Neil's recent show at Madison Square Garden.
"His own guitar solos are luridly violent affairs-he staggers crazily about like an enraged fisherman who doesn't realize he's hooked the seat of his own pants, his spastic jerks and lurches somehow not corresponding to any sound anyone is making, including him. The effect is profoundly ugly and equally mesmerizing, and initially, it enthralls"
