I think I'd like to go
Back home
And take it easy
There's a woman that
I'd like to get to know
Living there

Everybody seems to wonder
What it's like down here
I gotta get away
From this day-to-day
Running around
Everybody knows
This is nowhere

Everybody, everybody knows
Everybody knows

Every time I think about
Back home
It's cool and breezy
I wish that I could be there
Right now
Just passing time

Everybody seems to wonder
What it's like down here
I gotta get away
From this day-to-day
Running around
Everybody knows
This is nowhere

Everybody, everybody knows
Everybody knows

The first (of many) NY songs I fell in love with – age 13.  Still a pretty damn good song.  It's fun to hear Crazy Horse doing the "la la" thing.
Was always a fan, but find it too difficult to listen to him now. History will not be favourable to him, as is the case for many of us. Go ahead and downvote me, don't care.

At 64 I'm having a staggering moment, (been a hell of a Christmas) and cooking with the hubs and loving hearing this.  So many memories...
What a burst of energy!  Reminds me of driving to high school, listening to my tape deck, signing at the top of my lungs.  Can't remember the last time I heard this song, but I was able to sing along with every word while still answering email and singing.  The song is so burned into my consciousness that no effort is required to recall the lyrics.
Wait...The hell with the talk of harmonies...he's married to Daryl Hannah?

Nice.

I don't think.  A bit too lean and a bit too big of a frame to be a Jack Russell.  I'm looking into dog breeds for one to adopt when I finally get out of NYC later in '21.  A Jack Russell is a big dog in a little body,  and that Neil dog looks like a littler dog in a bigger body.
Neil young is my number one . Any time. Anywhere.

Yes, it's meaningless.

You don't get retroactively evaluated for a Nobel.

The Nobel Prize was for being a black man elected as the leader of an incorrigibly racist country.  One that is even worse in this regard now.  That and the fact that at the time he was fighting to give health care to all Americans (whether or not you believe in the result).

Those achievements were unlocked at the ballot box in 2008, in part because of his war presnit predecessor, and in his first year in office.  Hence the award at that time.
Reminds me of the Grateful Dead, and not in a good way.

Never get tired of Neil, especially this song.  Thanks RP for playing.
As an ex hi- fi professional, given the right equipment 192 kbs Ogg Vorbis is quite stunning. I listen to it via a Bluesound Node 2, Audiolab MDAC and Hifiman HE 400i headphones which as a system is very revealing. At no time have I felt I was missing anything at all. In fact I can say the same about 256 kbs AAC files too. Higher bitrates etc might be very sublty more detailed etc but frankly the law of diminishing returns applies. I have tried the higher bitrate streaming services and just keep coming back to RP not least for the suberb varied and high quality music. It really does not get any better!
Transatlanticism.

I wonder if Neil is ok with the fact that this song is being played at 192k quality or even lower. I understand from interviews that he is so disappointed with the sound quality that streaming services offer that he removed almost all of his songs from Spotify.I deeply regret that and I really don't understand. After all the "trashy garage sound" is his more or less his trademark. So what is he aiming for? To promote this Pono-thing? I can hardly believe this.

Neil is, uh, confused on this point. Excellent overview here: https://xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/neil-young.html

Despite my comments below, I think you make a valid point. Having read his lengthy biography I know that he was never after high fidelity in the recording studio, particularly in his early recordings, so it does seem a bit odd that he is now concerned about improving on mp3 technology. In the end, if Pono sounds better than the mp3 alternatives, then I guess the inspiration behind it is moot. At least people have a choice now.

Absolutely one of the best songs to sing if you've had a few beers.

Or a bunch of beers, for that matter.
yEA, Everybody knows, somebody tell the people who know but say otherwise.  Neil and Patti on tour, finally a reason to take pain killers for the aches and get on out to the extra large enclosed multi purpose facility which changes names every few years.  WOOO HOOO!

Neil Young is a decent songwriter, semi-famous Canadian (a LOT more famous in Canada) with TWO Grammys and overall a WHINY sounding singer with an "old soul"...

Y'know, I grew up on Neil Young listening to his albums and leaning to play his songs, but in retrospect I now find his compositions and playing style tedious and unimaginative.  Radio Paradise seems to play a disproportionate amount of Neil Young's music.  I'm sorry to say that when I hear his songs, I just can't wait for them to end!  That said, I really love Radio Paradise for the incredible variety of music that they play.  There is excellent music in all styles and tastes and Radio Paradise samples them all.  I've heard to artists that I had forgotten or never heard of.  From Bollywood, to Mancini to George Harrison, to Joe Strummer and Antje Duvekot, you're the reason I still buy music!
Is that Elmo on background vocals?
Excellent song and album.
This song/album was my first real intro into the world of Neil. Been there ever since.
Won Artist of the Year award last night at the Juno (actually won 3 awards). Juno are Canada's version of the Grammys. Made me want to stand up and sing O Canda.

As the man says, 41 years old, and just over 100 comments written about it.  Basement Jaxx's 'Scars' thing is a few months old and about 140 comments on it.

What was i saying about safe?  Tes, let's hear the oldies, the ones like David Bromberg, from our long lost youth, but a bit more cutting edge required please (and yes, look at my top 50 and they are probably all 30 yr old songs!)

Great music is timeless, this sounds like it could have been recorded yesterday. I always think of the Leonard Cohen song Everybody Knows when I hear this song. Both artists are Canadian, but they have spent a lot of time in the US.

This is a great song, but it seems like I hear it all the time on RP. Neil's got about a gabajillion other awesomelly fantastic songs. . .
Neil at his stripped down best. Although he has put out some mighty fine music, in many ways, I think this was his best album. Probably better than anyone, he can take one basic line, like "everybody knows this is nowhere," sing it over and over again, and somehow it does not sound trite or even repetitive. It always sounds meaningful.

Neil Young is part of the exclusive Mt.Rushmore of North American Rock n Roll. - Second greatest American songwriter next to Dylan. Steve Stills is a very talented top 25 percentile rock and roll writer, singer, guitarist performer. CSY was a very good band - Graham and David - who were both second bananas in very good bands before - are good harmonizers with some good songs of their own. My friend - methinks you would be very much in the minority of choosing CSY or CSNY over Y.
