I had a hard run
Running from your window
I was all night running
I wonder if you care?
I had a run-in
Run around and run down
Run around a corner
Run smack into a tree

I had to move
Really had to move
That's why, if you please
I am on my bended knees
Bertha, don't you come around here anymore

Dressed myself in green
I went down to the sea
Try to see what's going down
Maybe read between the lines

Had a feeling I was falling
Turned around to see
Heard a voice calling
You was comin' after me

I had to move
Really had to move
That's why, if you please
I am on my bended knees
Bertha, don't you come around here anymore

Ran into a rainstorm
Ducked into a bar door
It was all night pouring
But not a drop on me

Test me, test me
Why don't you arrest me?
Throw me in the jail house
Until the sun goes down
'til it go down

I had to move
Really had to move
That's why, if you please
I am on my bended knees
Bertha, don't you come around here anymore

The Dead drops into the groove of this song.
Los Lobos drives it alittle more.
Both good versions and a helluva song.
I listen to this album in my car as often as I do Hot Tuna's "Burgers" album. That is A LOT!
very nice cover.

Too bad they dont tour much these days
Deadicated since 1985
RP should have a covers channel for those of u who want to hear covers all day
These talented jammers sure rocked Chautauqua last summer! Their music is passionate, alive, infectious...

Lets just agree that if you can make the accordion sound this cool you are a legitimately awesome band.

Agreed!  This pumpin', jumpin' rhythmic 'cordian style is a frequent feature of Canadian Acadian music and that of their Louisiana Cajun cousins.  Cousine, vient danser avec moi!!
In The Netherlands, Los Lobos is only known for La Bamba. What a shame!
Just occurred to me that it's not surprising they chose this song to cover. The stanzas are very similar to their own in structure.
I will always have time for Los Lobos!

These guys ARE BETTER  than the Dead! They are all very talented musicians!  The Dead would get too stoned & would not all be playing the same song at the same time!

thats cause both bands know how yo play rnr

I am now talking with myself.

To answer that non-rhetorical question: No. There can never be too much GD music. Same goes for Dylan, Mitchell, Steely Dan, and Van the man.

I always thought the line was "Test me, test me/Why don't you undress me?"
I've said it once and I'll say it again, the Grateful Dead are the backbone of Radio Paradise, I suspect Bill and Rebecca have been to a Dead show or two...
Wahoo!  Brokedown>Dire Wolf> Bertha!  pure awesomeness! Thanks Bill and Rebecca.
Always, always, always with these guys: great guitar work.
And these cats get it

Bertha gets it

I'm trying to get it

Thank you RP for me rediscovering Los Lobos!

fine album. Hey Bill, how about playing Jane's Addiction cover of "Ripple" from this one?

That was my intro to JA.  Then I discovered the rest of the album. Gold.
Fantastic album from start to finish! Had me dancing at work quite the complement these artists paid to the Dead!  And, I believe, every CD bought a dollar was donated to Save the Rainforest fund.  Thanks Bill for the tunes. Brokedown > Dire Wolf > Bertha... to be followed by Bo Diddley...WOW
not as peppy as
the Dead version
Love this almost as much as the Dead’s versions More GD pls BillG

These guys are consistently great, album after album after album.
More Los Lobos please!

I have this from a while back. I remembered there being a track I didn't like. But I just looked at the complete disk and cant figure out which one it would have been.

The Lyle Lovett 'freind of the devil' is particularly wonderful. But yeah, the whole thing is good.
Far Superior version from "Just Another Band From East LA" - Bertha Live at the Carefree Theatre, 1992
Please play, Bill (Live version, of course - The Dead must be served live)  https://youtu.be/psgToDJoQl8
3rd Dead cover in a row. Nice trend!
Hell Yeah , 2 in a row, play the whole album!
Los Lobos at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass this year was easily the best performance I have ever seen by this excellent band. Their recorded work scarcely hints at what can happen in an open air setting, bright sunshine, warm temps, etc. It is impossible to beat a Golden Gate Park show when all the variables are aligned.
love it!

FYI; there is an album out there called "Dylan Country" and it does something similar: 15 different country artists cover Dylan songs.

It's a real diverse mix of artists. Kitty Wells just kills "Forever Young".

This what we need to get up and moving on a Monday morning.

I wish I had Bertha in my office.
Wharf Rat fr Aussie's best ever Midnight Oil & Estimated Prophet via Burning Spear are the best cuts in my opinion. Give them a try & see! RB

I finally figured it out and low and behold a friend had the CD so I borrowed it.  Played it for a couple weeks red the insert front to back.

Seems like you've been pleading for this cut to be added, but there's only one Jane's Addiction song here on RP's playlist.  It's an alternate version of "Been Caught Stealing", and it hasn't been played in over a dozen years.
Love this Dead set!  Bill: please throw the Decemberist's Row Jimmy in there... really good.

This album is brilliant, Ripple by Jane's Addiction next!!!!
This track has been on for 60 seconds, it already sounds swings and grooves better than most of the output of the song's authors. Funny how that works. Guitar break, hit it...

Went to the Chicago shows with my wife.  Tie-dyes took over the city for a few days and, corny as it might seem, everything was magical.  We saw old friends and plenty others who shared so many experiences, they might as well have been old friends.   The music was good.  the scene was electric.  Great party.
Love this Los Lobos version of Bertha!
Broke Down, FOTD and Bertha!

THANK YOU
A good cover of one of my favorite Dead songs. When they were on, this song was spectacular.
Hey I just asked for this and ................I got it. That NEVER happens
A good cover of a well known Grateful Dead tune, far better than the preceding, execrable Lyle Lovett cover of "Friend of the Devil" which has no right to live.
Yes!!! More Dead covers!! All greeeeaaaaat versions! RP you are reading my brain... As always!!!

This isn't live? Then why is the chorus a half-step flat every time?

I love Los Lobos, but this is really weak sauce.

Bad weed.
The version of Bertha on Los Lobos: Just Another Band from East L.A. gives some flavour of how great a live band Los Lobos are when they stretch out.

My first Dead Concert from 1971, and a Los Lobos show in 1991 are both in my top five concerts in the last 45 years: American music, no pretension, total dedication, few boundaries, focused on the music not the ego.

Plus: David Hildago's guitar. God damn, it's good to be alive on this day.
Bleh. Mailed in. "Dead"-icated for sure.
I prefer the live version better, but this one still makes me jump in my chair. Me encanta Los Lobos
Hat trick!
One of my favorite Dead songs (and there really aren't all that many of them) done by Los Lobos has got to be an 8 before I even hear all of it!
dig it
Okay, I just ordered Deadicated from ebay, $5.99 with free shipping!
Yo fellow Dead Heads, this is a terrific album and the legacy of songs written by JG and others is truly up there with the angels where ole Jerry is now, serenading them with "Friend of the Devil" and most likely, they are loving it too, toking up a bit of the Green and rocking.

Damn, Old Friend Jerry, we miss you for sure.
I'd like to clarify my 10 rating ... It's not for this recording, it's for the many times I've heard Los Lobos do this song live. Sorry deadheads, but it's better than the Dead. The recording is kind of hollow. Being there, live, up and dancing, is awesome. If you ever have a chance to hear a live version, be sure to treat yourself.

Stef, Bill can't sneak anything past you, can he?

The album is all covers of Grateful Dead songs by various artists. Why did Bill play 'em back-to-back? Who can possibly know what evil lurks in his fevered, twisted mind...

Just needling you. It's a great album.

Thanks Bill, the rest of this disk is excellent also.

RP can play Dead and Dead covers non-stop as far as I'm concerned! {#Sunny}

Would love to hear some Scarlet Begonias.  C'mon! Its summer!

Third time's a charm on the Dead covers.  I would be quite happy if Lovett's Friend of the Devil and Joanie's BP were removed from rotation.
