Is this the Spanish or the southern French dialect?

It's the Catalan language, distinct from French and Spanish.

The more I hear them, the more I like them!!  Thanx RP!
Good memories of living in Santa Monica 1995 a mile from the Promenade and beach, my roommates girlfriend introduced our house to the Gypsy Kings
spanish band ......greatness ty rp for the quality we feel home
cheers from morocco
Excellent!! I never heard of them before.  Thanx RP!
I thought this was a Hotel California cover for like 30 seconds.
Is this the Spanish or the southern French dialect?

Such wonderful memories of Sangria, Estrella Dorada, Paella and bronzed babes!!!
Brings back lots of bittersweet memories; they were one of my ex-wife's favorite groups, and we sure enjoyed them. Nice to hear again
This was so quiet I had to turn my stereo way up just to hear if something was playing at all. Then I had to jump to the volume and crank it down when the next song started.
Beautiful guitar, just beautiful.

And hey: if you were a political leader while Dumbya was in office, he'll paint your portrait freesies!

And the likeness is uncanny!

Springing from your example of Shrub's post-Presidential activities, it could be amusing to guess how Puti will while away his idle hours....  His idle billions of $ are hinting at a wildass shopping spree — my money says he's got a foot-fetish, worse than Imelda's!

Everybody in my alien space craft loves this music...  we be dancing like bowlegged gypsy muleskinners...

Ottmar Liebert next bill PLEASE?
Any one of the little tangents in this would make a good song on it's own.

Someone's sarcasm meter is on the fritz.

Greetings, I want to recommend an old documentary film of Gipsy (Romany) music, from India, Turkey, Romania, Spain, and many other places: it is called Latcho Drom, and it is the real thing. Less polished than the irrepressible Gipsy Kings (whom I like a lot!), and very heartfelt music.
I saw it on (I'm guessing) PBS a while ago. It was quite good and in addition to the great music, it also gave you a fascinating history of the Romany people and their culture.

Newsflash: this is a music site. Let's leave the political rants to the political blogs.
Gipsy Kings always set a mood. I enjoy that.

Venus is on Earth? God really does bless America. Maybe there are, like, a few venues that you, like, haven't visited yet? Like, maybe even outside California?
They're cute alright and they've played the American crowd like a charm. That said you want real flamenco listen to Manitas de Platas...now there's some real guitar playing there
I've seen them twice, once at a large outdoor venue (3rd row) and once at a smaller indoor venue (Jones Hall - (last row). Both shows were excellent but had totally different vibes. The outdoor show was lots of drunken dancing and partying while the Jones Hall show had a bunch of stuffy folks in suits and evening dresses. Either way, I'll make sure to get my tickets early for the next tour.
Sorry to say that I'm in agreement with WordMariner. I saw Gypsy Kings at Mountain Winnery - one of the greatest venues on earth - most of the crowd appeared drunk on cheap wine - these guys seem to let their egos be inflated by the lowest common denominator. A clear contrast from McLaughlin, DiMeola & DeLucia who didn't seem to let the adulation go to their heads when I saw them live together years ago.
flamenco light , give me the real thing!
Makes me think of my brother in Miami.

I saw these guys this summer in Denver and they SUCKED! Their show was supposed to be "the show of the season" at the Botanic Gardens and they were just awful! They spent half the day before the concert doing sound checks and then when they came on stage, THEIR sound failed and they played with only 2 mikes despite the need for all 4 or 5....then they played a decidely SHORT set of 1 hour, left the stage "to take a break" and never came back. They finished playing before it even got dark! Pretentious, full of themselves, and all-around BAD! Of all the tunes they could play for a damned encore, they played "Volare"....a f$#@&^**ing cover song! I will NEVER suggest to anyone to go see these jerks!
Sounds like a lot less than 6 dudes are playing.
This is really good.
:nodhead:
¡Bonito!
sublime. must be a joy to see them live.
Just too, too beautiful. Must ... stop ... brain cells ... from erupting ... into flames ... of pure ecstacy! :sunny.gif:
Incredible ability to trickle in to where rhythm meets joy.

PS: I had heard before that they were actually French, as another commenter had suggested. Hard to believe... but I can't find it on Google to verify. Can anyone provide proof of that?
From AMG: "The Gipsy Kings are largely responsible for bringing the joyful sounds of progressive pop-oriented flamenco, called Sevillana in Spain, to the world. The band started out in Arles, a village in southern France during the '70s when brothers Nicolas and Andre Reyes, the sons of renowned flamenco artist Jose Reyes, teamed up with their cousins Jacques, Maurice and Tonino Baliardo, whose father is Manitas de Plata. They originally called themselves Los Reyes and started out as a gypsy band traveling about playing weddings, festivals, and in the streets. Because they lived so much like gypsies, the band adopted the name the Gipsy Kings." Sounds like you've had fun in life, too, GolfRomeo. :) These guys played here in the Old Pueblo last week. Incredible show highlighted (literally) by nature's best monsoon lightning. Unfortunately, they had to call it short, but did finish with 'Bamboleo' as an encore (as they often do). Catch 'em live, if you can.
I had the immense good fortune to live in southwestern Spain (Andalucia) for 4 years. Musically, it was very satisfying. "Sevilliana", as it is called there (Flamenco is similar, in the way bluegrass and country are similar), is as much or more a part of life there as bluegrass is linked to Applachia. The music has had a similar resurgence in recent years, largely due to the influence of gems such as the Gipsy Kings. Not every band needs to be adventurous constantly....IMO, anyway. There is something to be said for just being very, very, very good at what you do. Otherwise, we'd have a universe of Sigur Ros bands-- fun for a while, but largely unsatisfying over time. PS: I had heard before that they were actually French, as another commenter had suggested. Hard to believe... but I can't find it on Google to verify. Can anyone provide proof of that?
these guys are technically proficient, but they kind of suck on the originality scale. i like them and all that, but c'mon y'all, this is NOT adventurous music! it's just just a regurgitation of stuff that's already been done a MILLION times! i'm just responding to all the positive frothing i'm seeng here. the gipsy kings are really good, but, imho, a little uninspired in the creativity department. they need to spread their wings a little. the flamenco thangy is is SO already (very well) overdone. they are dropping the ball and wasting their immense talent in the service of hackneyed clichés. i gave it a 5.
i married a spaniard, and even though this group is french, they are constantly in rotation on the cd changer in the living room. i mean, constantly. if my wife had to rescue something from the burning building, i don't doubt the cd stacks would get rifled through, and the gipsy kings would be safe!
Latino Polka
My boyfriend introduced me to this group by trying to take me to one of thier concerts. When I asked who the Gipsy Kings where he said "Only the best band on Earth." I wouldn't quite say that, because I don't really make those kind of judgements. But they are still pretty awesome. :D
When you think this is great, than you\'ll love The Rosenberg Trio as well, I think.
I just can\'t say a bad thing about the Gipsy Kings. If I were stranded on an island with only one group\'s music for the rest of my life, it would be there\'s. That\'s my story and I\'m sticking to it. Anton
excellente!
Thanks Miss Jenn for the info :-). I love the Gipsy Kings too. I play Spanish classical guitar (played actually) and they are an inspiration to me.
I guess I wouldn\'t normally give a song like this a 10, but it\'s fairly late in the evening, and this perfect just fit my mood perfectly, bravo for reading my mind Radio Paradise. Jim
I'd love to hear more of these folks, please! BTW and FWIW, "ternura" means tenderness, fondness, affection.
