Sorry Fred, you are correct. The vast majority of The The's songs are more "rocking" than this. I should have made a more specific reference point — this YLT song reminds me of the softer side of The The, mainly the song The Whisperers. —cheers
The The has a lot of bite, anger and above all zip, all of which are conspicuously absent from this aural Mogadon. A nailed-on Ho-Hum from the narcoleptic Nottingham jury

Pull the wax out of your ears, Fred. I have a 25 gallon canister of Mogodan here and I am coming to the UK to deliver it right to your front door step. Ever see the movie Jaws? I think that form of delivery would do it just right. ArrgggggHHH.

Love this YLT track. One of their best, imo.

great!

love their sound....drums, soft vocals, bass beat......

Yeah, I thought this was Lloyd Cole.
Am I hearing a bit of Lloyd Cole in this?
always had a soft spot for backmasked drums. . .
song name is actually "don't have to be so sad"

Tender words, soothing melody and soft voice. Very nice!
Just started my workday to this song - Thank you so much RP!
A nice song ... but the playlist today is vvverrry slow and sedate. Almost like it was programmed by a soccer mom who wants to sit in the living room of the house paid for by her doctor-husband and read her lame novels and eat bon-bons all day. All you need to add is some Enya and I suspect listeners will fall into a shallow coma.

Me too...this groove is addictive. The message is love.
I like this it builds to that mello piano solo.... do do dodo do do.
I tracked this song over and over when this CD came out!
A very introspective tone...for me at least. I don't know so much about the rest of you.

Yes!
that is an absolutely brilliant way to name a band!

A little bit too empty for me...
Sad no, bored with this song yes.
Haven't heard this in a while.

Actually this song comes across as very sad to me...
You and me we're at the goldfish pond
and I, I was tagging along for the ride
all the big mouthed fish really made us laugh
and while I stood still I felt a chill
I thought that maybe you did too
I wanted to feel that way forever
And that's why
If you're looking at me I'll try to be what you want to see
and if I'm, if I'm, ever that lucky
You won't have to be so, You won't have to be so sad
You won't have to be so sad.
Last night I was trying to read in bed
But I got to watching you sleep instead
Even when I got tired I couldn't stop
Because I love you so, and I pray you know
But I'm not much for praying
I knew I couldn't say that without making a joke
And that's why if you're looking at me I'll try to be what you want to see
and If I'm ever that lucky you won't have to be so
You won't have to be so sad.
You won't have to be so sad.
Yeah that's why
If you're looking at me I'll try to be what you want to see
and I, if I'm ever that lucky you won't have to be so
You won't have to be so sad.
You won't have to be so sad.
You won't have to be so sad.
I love this song, but I am wondering about the lyrics. Ol\' Warren Buffet is from Omaha. Snipping some lyrics...
Well mister, if you\'re going to walk on water
Could you drop a line my way?
Hey Mister, if you\'re going to walk on water
You know you\'re only going to walk all over me.
It\'s the heart that matters more
I think you better turn your ticket in
And get your money back at the door.
Maybe a coincidence, but then again, maybe he is saying that people who focus too much on materialistic things are missing something, despite his longing for them too.
Either that, or maybe it is about his dog or something...
A remarkable song. A 4 on my first listen, a 7 on my second. And might climb further.
When they're "on", there's no finer band around. Problem is, they're only on about half the time. This is from the good half, for sure.

That's freaking great! I found this place a few months ago, and am now in a job where I get to listen to music all day while performing repetitive tasks, and I've gotta say that Radio Paradise is what keeps me sane.
This song is amazing.
Amen!
love this band...

Yeah! Love this song! Although, if you analyze it, it seems like a mess. Seemingly random-sounding piano tinkling -- repetitive percussion -- whispered, almost incoherent vocals. But it all adds up to a mesmerizing, enchanting whole.

Most excellent chill track.
Absolute great song.

A cross between The The and Lloyd Cole? Very nice. Keep up the fabulouse music rotation Bill. As others have commented: Radioparadise is God's Ipod on Shuffle. Good to have something to praise God for that is positive.
Totally agree about the quality of RP. I tell all my friends about it. I am holding off on XM and Sirius hoping for mobile IP service, so I can listen while I drive. Commercial radio around here is awful, and Syracuse is a college town!

No trouble here. Low but perfectly audible.

"should"...interesting word choice. Hard to believe there's a how-to manual on music. From my perspective, some music deserves not to be chaotic, upbeat, diverse, or otherwise complicated. At least to serve those of us that appreciate music as such.
Fair, but for me, music that fails to engage fails, period. You can have your elevator music, but I want something that causes _some_ response in me. If it doesn't make me feel or think, then what's the point. What is the artist doing except for making noise that some people happen to find boring enough to listen to?
I guess Ira Kaplan is what Lloyd Cole would sound like if Lloyd were from New Jersey.

tell ye what - makes zero 7 look fairly ordinary - excellent ambiance and atmosphere - th ocan see why some would find it boring

Did the Beta band sample the piano from this song for one of their songs? (the song name is slipping my mind right now...)
Ah, I liked that. No idea why. That's music for you...
i got distracted...is this still playing, or playing again?

i second that. anything from the early 90s would be most welcome.

Nice. I've tried some uploads of the Commotions era. I've determined that it's not a Lloyd Cole friendly place. (They rejected "Perfect Skin"!) I'll keep trying though. :)
This tune sounds like Lloyd Cole. RP needs much more LC and Matthew Sweet. But my music is in FLAC and OGG so someone else do some uploading and Bill has rejected everything I uploaded.

Good call. Very much so on this tune.
I don't like 'em as much as I used to (too mellow), but this sort of thing is great if you're in the right mood.
****
man, there is something about this tune...can not get enough of it
I thought this was Lloyd Cole. Dude has his vocals down to a nut.
This is a pleasure to hear after the cacophony of Counting Crows.
I like the piano.
songs like this are the reason why I increasingly do not listen to the RP streams as much as I used too
Has an almost Cowboy Junkies sound to it.
Think "Trinity Sessions"...
Vocal could almost be Tom Verlaine.
Good Song.
I don't know what it is...
This song can go on forever and it still won't annoy me.
Good stuff!
very good on an alarmingly warm but beautiful January evening
Very good on a cold and snowy day... "COOL..."
so it is here on 20051229 1:30 pm
I'm thinking "A Short Term Effect" by The Cure, except mellow rather than psychotic.
thanks for the sweet jam...nice and chill on a cold midwestern afternoon...
More Yo La Tengo.....Thanks!
Definitely not sad when I hear this tune.
It took a while, but this won me over. It's cool.
Could do a nice segue to/from Hendrix' "Third Stone From the Sun".

YLT showing how diverse they can be. I like it, even if it is sleepy.

A little more refined than Lou Reed.
Still nobody else hearing Jerry Garcia and Lou Reed?
Okay, okay...I'll just start beating my head against the wall...
