Last night and the night before
Twenty-five robbers at my door
I got up and let 'em in
But I missed 'em all with a rollin' pin
Alright they took everything I own
Like a king down from his throne
Yeah-ah-ah-ah
I can't let it get me down
Change my smile into a frown
Oh hey yeah -eh
(I can't let it get me down,
change my smile into a frown)
Just all about to send it southside
Even though I know you are tired
Now it's time for love again
Pain is found and finally went
Took everything I own
Like a king without his throne
I can't let it get me down
Change my smile into a frown
(I can't let it get me down,
change my smile into a frown)
All is fair in love and war
What are you fightin' here for
Time about to right just one
There's no cost and there's no fun
Yeah hey hey hey
It'll never happen again
But it has to end
I can't let it get me down
Change my smile into a frown
(I can't let it get me down,
change my smile into a frown)

oh boy, I hear Bonnie Raitt's "Love Letter" - maybe written by Bonnie Hayes in 1989. The tune is too close...

I swear he could just sing “yeah” over and over and it would still be full of soul.

Sure do. That's a favorite BR tune of mine.

I always thought that when people said "The Reverend Al Green" that it was a metaphor. I just found out he is actually a pastor! Go Al!
My first time hearing this one. Love it.
I have great reverence for the Reverend Al - seems I've mentally rated all his tunes 8, 9 or 10. Just love the groove, voice, and the light and breezy feeling from hearing his work. Long Live RP and keep playing these Soul tunes!!
Great tune!!!!
Take Me to the River again, Al!
Excellent choice, Bill and Rebecca. Thank you for expanding Al's presence on RP. This is worthy of in-play purchase.
The Reverend Al is smooooooooooooth.
Awesome.

Oh man! We should have done a medley of this and "Love Letter". We were already doing Bonnie's tune.
