NEGATIVE MUCH ?
Yes. If you'll notice he very rarely has anything nice to say. Don't take it personally. =)

NEGATIVE MUCH ?
I've never been a big Neil Young fan, but this is beautiful.
Heavy handed much?
beautiful, simply beautiful
I feel like I'm sitting in one of those strip-mall churches up Dallas/Ft. Worth way...
What the?
I like this song, and the whole Prairie Wind album for that matter. I've been a Neil Young fan for 3 decades, and really appreciate having him around. The music will still be around when today's youngsters mature into it. The world needs to slow down a little and smell the roses.
Wow !! I'm surprised at all of the negative comments about this song. I saw Neil perform it on the telethon for Hurricane Katrina, and I thought it was a great song. I've loved Neil's music since I was a kid, and I still love it.
It seems that some of the nay sayers of this song just don't quite get what is going on in it.
Clearly the questions asked in the lyrics of this song are rhetorical in nature. Also, this is NOT a gospel song if anything it is an anti-gospel song. Typical of much of Neil's lyrics he is utilizing irony, the lyrics are not meant to be taken at face value without thought and reflection. The problem here is that those who wish to deride the genius of Mr. Young do so because they are only capable of seeing up to his ankles.
If you do not like the song or the singing, fine that is a matter of taste and there is no accounting for it. However, please do not insult his or the rest of RP's educated listening audience's intelligence with the inanity of a number of the comments that are being made here.
I'm not christian, although I have nothing against religious songs, but this one is really horrible. How about a bit of gospel or something instead, a bit more swing!
Good lyrics...too bad NY is singing them...

I agree with the comment from that site that points out that Neil asks 10 questions but offers no answers. Some will find that cool, others will find it pointless. I guess I lean towards the later, but that's not surprising given my lack of enthusiasm for him.
I bet his fans will like it, which is cool for them.
Thanks for the lyrics! I was just searching myself.
I love the lyrics and I find the questions to be very significant...some important things we humans should consider. Now is a good time for such song.
As a fan, I must say this is indeed very cool.
Neil, you just amaze me.
Never really been a NY fan, but this is almost interesting.

WHEN GOD MADE ME
Was he thinking about my country,
or the colour of my skin?
Was he thinking about my religion,
and the way I worshipped him?
Did he create just me in his image,
or every living thing?
When God made me.
When God made me.
Was he planning only for believers,
or for those who just had faith?
Did he envision all wars
that were fought in his name?
Did he say there was only one way
to be close to him?
When God made me.
When God made me.
Did he give me the gift of love
to say who I could choose?
When God made me.
When God made me.
When God made me.
Did he give me the gift of voice
so some could silence me?
Did he give me the gift of vision
not knowing what I might see?
Did he give me the gift of compassion
to help my fellow man?
When God made me.
When God made me.
When God made me.
love the lyrics... never been an especially big fan of neil young, so i'm not surprised i don't especially like the song.
The lyrics really make you think and put into perspective all the stupid things we humans do with the perception of being the superior species.
He seems to have revisited the creative grounds that produced Harvest and Harvest Moon.
Lyrically interesting, but otherwise this is terrible.
New stuff from the ol' Neil!!! His voice has mellowed with time, and so have his lyrics. This song has some pretty interesting questions about what God was thinking when He created humans...
I like it. Still wouldn't mind hearing "Danger Bird" or "Rockin' in the Free World," though...
Wow. An all time high on the suck-o-meter. I can respect the guy for different styles and projects, but this a'int my cup of tea at all.

I agree. Neil Young has written some great songs, but this is not one of them.
MAKE IT STOP! AAAAARGH!
"Did God give me the gift of voice?"
Ooh! Ooh! I know this one!!
OMG this is terrible, really really terrible.
Old Neil's done just about everything else. Why not a little Gospel, I ask...?
One sees that many of the old troubadours have reached that point in their lives where they're confronting their own mortality & we're all made richer for it.
