A great sign - I have now heard classic  jazz 2 days in a row! Thx RP team

Instead of “Play Misty for Me” that movie should have been “Play the Theme for Ernie for Me”!

Hmmm Jazz, nice! Nothing like a bit of Coltrane to lighten the mood. Just need a bit of Hartman on vocals. Hmmm, nice!
RP has only 2 Coltrane tunes.  Bill, it is time to add MORE!!  Thank You!

YES! He was a pioneer, he introduced Neumann condenser microphones, while 25mi away, most NYC record label studios were using RCA ribbon mics, designed in the late '30s by Harry Olsen. He was also the first to adopt EQ (equalization) into custom built mixing consoles, while the NYC studios were using broadcast consoles with no EQ!
GODLIKE!!!

Can't agree more. Love almost all genres, this station is fantastic at picking good music from all genres.

This is an interesting pick by Bill & Co. Did it get a lot of radio play in 1958?
Was it featured in a recent movie? Lots of jazz choices to choose from why this one?

Do you really think John Coltrane needs a reason?

Because it's a lovely song by a legendary musician at the top of his game. And how old do you think Bill is?

Yes. I wish they can put add some more of it. Balance out country, folk, blues and jazz.
Needed this song right now.   Calmed me right down.. Thanks!

I go back and forth with him: when is he better...on tenor or soprano?

I get high on his solos on Kind of Blue....but his version of "Favorite Things" on soprano is just way too trippy. I swerve off the road and end up in a new time zone, when I drive and hear that song.

And how do you forget the piano man, McCoy T?

 What about the Alto?

Aaand relax.... Just what I needed after a stressful work day.
Moved from a 9 to a 10.  Thank you RP for reminding me about music like this.

John Coltrane playing on a rainy day here in DC. Perfect. Nothing like classic jazz on a gray overcast rainy day. Like they are made for each other.
This is the reason why I love RP hearing gems like this
RP needs a fourth Mix.

Not really. Pull 'em back to one, please.

Thanks easmann for that PDF and for who Ernie was. I've never heard of Fred Lacey, and googling doesn't turn up much so far...

Oh yeah!
Back in the 80's there was a multi storied Tower Records store located in the Foggy Bottom / George Washington University neighborhood of Washington, DC.  I'd browse there all the time but absolutely LOVED loitering upstairs in their extensive jazz record section where there'd always be some wonderful Blue Note or other such label of record playing. I'd just stand there listening for an hour or more basking in the sound of the greats. Great store, great memories. D.C. had so many great record stores back in the day...Penguin, Kemp Mill, Olssons, Takoma, *sigh*
Amazing. Although I would have never guessed it was Trane. Way to normal for him.
 Sex, and then brunch somewhere.

Amazing recording

sounds like he is in house on my kit
That is some sweet, sweet jazz right there.
This sounds like it's based on "I Love You (For Sentimental Reasons)". It makes sense. He'd know that song from Nat King Cole's version from a decade before.
thanx Bill
Thankyou for that...any chance of some Albert Collins please, pretty please... "if trouble was money" will do  {#Bananajam}
Anything coltrain,  Parker, rollins or cannon ball adderly    note spelling is probably misspelled no offence intended.
It's not the morning for me! Late afternoon on Boxing Day (which is my Christmas day, as I was working yesterday!)
Perfect for a relaxing late afternoon in winter.
Not in the morning please!!!  I am at work and this song is putting me to sleep!  {#Hand}
Thanks Billy!

I think he was the goofy looking one from 'My Three Sons'. Or not.

I recently heard a quote Cole made about his style.  "It's liked starting a sentence in the middle and playing to the beginning and the end at the same time".

"Not everyone wants to hear" any one music of any genre; no matter what artist or genre Bill plays there will be those who dislike it.  Given that this song's rating is presently at 7.9, one could guess the a majority of listeners here "want to hear" songs like this - despite the fact that you don't like it.  By the way, there is plenty of country music played here - well, depending on one's definition of "country".
Love the way RP mixes it up.  While other places celebrate sub-dividing music by genre; RP gives us the holistic auditory experience and I just dig the way jazz is sprinkled in.

Forever reminds me of my 1st couple months on the Noto Peninsula, in Ishikawa, Japan, where I went to run a branch of a private English school. It was the rainy season; May& June of '93 were cold and clammy. Trane was always on the stereo...the sake flowed!
