ride it on baby
into my view
ride it on baby
into your site
ride it on baby
just like you used to do
did you want me to love you
well i'm just here for the call
and you said that you're so low
well i won't really do you any harm
won't you ride it on baby
just like you used to do
there's no love that you're over feeling
and you still want to be with me
but you're leaving like you said that you would
i'm a-waiting for the call
and you love like you always say now
but you know it won't do you any harm
ride it on baby
just like you said that you would
oh do ride it on baby
just like you know it's understood
ride it on baby
it's still into your view
ride it on baby
i only want to be with you
i'm dreaming that you're going far
and you lie, take, and whine
won't you ride it on baby
but you're so heavy for the price
ride it on baby
just like you said that you would
into my view
ride it on baby
into your site
ride it on baby

Any Mazzy Star song that’s not Fade Into You is an automatic 7.
It's so sad to read about all of those who are no longer here, who contributed to Mazzy Star's brilliance. I'm thinking rest in peace, assured that what you did while here will go on being appreciated.
Aside of that, Hope Sandoval deserves far more acclaim than she generally gets. She's an original, like Amy Winehouse and Nina Simone, where the first notes of their singing makes a grab at your heart.

raised this to an 8
Hope! That voice is unmistakable.

You do realize that Mazzy Star is a band - right?
When this music first came out, it did seem unique, but after a while after it's the same thing over and over and over...
Artist, at least the great ones will always expand on their art. That's what makes them great artist. But of course, that's not a very safe or secure feeling.
Most try to keep it as safe as possible.

When I hear about people spending hundreds of dollars to see that prick bono, & stones, et al. I just want to puke. I personally know people who do this who are now well off and their only interest is flashing their cash. Bono cashing in on genuine earned success from 20-30 years ago when they still really were a great band. For the price of one of those tickets, I could buy quite a few CDs and really explore all the beautiful wonder the world of music has to provide. Why oh why do people with hardly any real interest in music piss their money away on f.ing Bono et al??? I know there are real earnest fans there, too, at those shows, so don't give me all kinds of your f.ing grief for writing this.

I wonder how Mazzy would sound without the obligatory echo we hear in all of her songs
love iT
She is fabulous. She'd probably love you to death very quickly. You would die happy and she will live forever in her talented vampire world.

What are you pissed about - that people with lousy taste in music also spend lots of money on bloated live shows? How you spend your money is your business, how they spend their money is theirs. Are you a BETTER music fan because you EXPLORE new music and go to small venues to see up-and-coming acts or quality bands that never made it big? If that's what makes you feel good about yourself than great. But for all those other people - they go to one or two shows a year because maybe they have kids and can't get out much. Or maybe they've always wanted to see the Stones and never got to. For every dipshit that drops $200.00 on the latest Springsteen tour there's a bunch of fans at the show who never saw him play live.
Not everyone has the time or energy to be a connoisseur.
You make a fair point. If you knew me better, I don't think you would make it. I already kinda shielded myself against this comeback when I mentioned in my original post "don't give me grief about the earnest fans..."
Sorry, it just makes me puke to see all that money go to that. Not because I am against bands making money really, but because I see those concerts almost like those Nuremberg Rallies where a bunch of mindless idiots go to pray to some cult, in this case the bitch-godess success.

For the most part, I really agree with you. Concerts are really only to let the listener connect in some way with the performer(s).

Sure, a great concert experience is a memory that will stay with someone for years, but if the music isn't good, than it doesn't matter how well the crowd and band connect.
The studio is where artists perfect the sound, have the time to really create a auditory experience, and all the tools needed to realize their vision. Sure, some bands are much better in concert than in their studio work, but that just means that their presence and ability to project a high energy atmosphere counter-balances weaknesses in their music.
There is always the rare instance where a band is fantastic in the studio and fantastic live, and the two experiences meld into one great legacy, but without the recordings there will be no real long term memory of their music.
The memory of a concert can last for generations, a recording can last forever.
Concerts do not matter!!!!!!

I agree with her. Think of someone doing that at any other performance besides a Rock concert. It's why I think "live" (i.e. concerts) performances are not an important part of Rock music, not what will endure in any case. Thanks for the anecdote, and hats off to Hope.
I am sure most would disagree. Think of the Beetles and how few times and how long it has been since they performed. It matters nothing.
Concerts do not matter!!!!!!
so Hope Sandoval (aka Mazzy Star) is playing a show at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston... and the crowd is getting restless... it is a very dimly lit show (at the artist's request) and a lot of people were there to see Hope b/c they heard she was cute... not a shadow on stage.. so a bit into the show a quiet crowd started chit-chatting, drinking at the bar and what-not. Mazzy stopped the show and started complaining about the crowd being too loud. Someone shouted out "We love you Hope!" to which she replied:
"I don't need you to love me. I need you to SHUT THE F**K UP!"
Amazingly bizarre moment out of all the live shows I've worked/seen. Almost the whole crowd turned on her.
She was very apologetic after the show and is a TOTAL SWEETHEART in person.
Just an off night I guess.

Neko can only pray she will ever get half that good. Having the voice is only a part. You've got to use it like a master craftsman. Right now she's merely an apprentice. Hope Sandoval wrote the manual and set the standards.candid, inspirer and very talent voice - 7 / 8.

Ah! an old friend. Good to hear on RP.
Mazzy Star / Hope Sandoval can do no wrong, IMHO.
When Fade Into You first came out, I was listening to the album on a road trip with my mother, because I knew she would find it inoffensive. About halfway through the album, my 62yo mother said, "This chick needs to cheer up."
hmm never heard of, sounds great

I remember seeing Mazzy Star in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the El Rey Theatre, in 1994. Fantastic and mesmerizing. Very Doors-like.
So good to hear Mazzy Star on RP.

Hope!
Interesing, their website looks like a new age smoke shop but the music sounds almost country western
My favorite Mazzy Star song...
I love listening to this in the summer on long drives through winding mountain roads.
Memories of a lonely girl in a new town...music was solace, then I ended up having so many friends I hadda go...memories of a lonely girl in another new town...
Hey i like it...! There's something about her that i always enjoy. thanks RP!!!
