You've been gone much longer
Than you ever said you had the plan to
I'm just gonna wait 'till you come home

Though I count the days, they're grey without you
The weather's much better when I think about you
I'm just gonna wait till you come home

Empty glasses, burnt out matches
Curtains drawn on near-full blackness
I'm sleeping through the day
You're coming home
To reclaim this heart you owned

Lover
Leave me
Make me burn
You're coming back!
You're coming back!

I'll wait patiently
For your return
You're coming back!
You're coming back!

I'm clutching at straws
I'm climbing up the walls
But every time I fall
Back into my hole
I'm feeling like a wretch
I'm looking for a catch
But you're an itch that I can't scratch
I know you're coming back

You've been gone so long you're fading
And it takes all the time I can find just retaining
Thoughts of things we did while you were here
But I know you will return my dear

Whatever happened to Gotye?
Yup, shes definitely not coming back!

YEP!  That post was a response to a comment: "She ain't coming back". Too true. He would be MUCH BETTER OFF  if she never came back!
Has a bit of Scott Walker in his voice. And Jacques Brel in his lyrics!

He had quite a success with "Somebody that I used to know". Interestingly, he isn't interested in selling his music and actually allows free usage of it for remixes and independent films and such :) Some more info in this Youtube vid
Please give a listen to his albums.  Sadly he has not released anything in 10 years.

Gotye 'made it' in the UK with Somebody That I Used To Know - a very clever, lyrically, break up song. Don't remember them having much further success since although I like everything I hear by them.

I should have looked at the lyrics long ago.  His wretch/catch reference is so much better than 'I feel like a rat looking for a cat'.

Love the classic textures in the mix
This is quite catchy! Lovely & fun. I could dance all night~
Singer has an Al Stewart voice.
The delicious, intoxicating intro makes me want to put on Gotan Project and bite a rose! (Thx Bootstrap Insane Rush IPA & legal weed)

"I'm sure you recognize this lovely melody as 'Stranger In Paradise', but did you know that the original theme is from the 'Polovtsian Dance #2' by Borodin? So many of the tunes of our well-known popular songs were actually written by the great masters—like these familiar themes..."
I imagine few people here are familiar with the ad, but it's funny seeing a similar point in a thread here after all those years.

Love it!  I remember that commercial as well.  It was on so much, I almost had it memorized.

I also remember one of Steve Martin's TV specials (he had one every Thanksgiving eve for a stretch in the late 1970's and early 1980's) having a small string quartet on where their banter before playing was those line above.

Damn, this song is long. I really like it, but I still ended up hitting PSD before it was over.
I have 8mm film my father shot of me in nappies bopping to Borodin in front of our mono record player way back when.

Yes, in several places actually.

A curious little piece, but I don't understand why anybody would be drawn to it.

"A priceless introduction to the classics that will enrich every home...Here's a unique opportunity to own a complete library of the world's most beautiful music."

Yes, that ad did run incessantly. My brothers and I made fun of it all the time, but even then the musical snippets were appealing. Did not know that John Williams replaced Sebastian Cabot in "Family Affair."

After hearing Gotye here a while ago, I bought this cd. It is a great album. Also bear in mind it is the work of one man, unsigned, and doing all the writing, playing all the instruments and mixing and releasing it himself. Quite an achievement I think and well worth considering when evaluating this piece.

Anyway, I often email artists if I like their stuff and did so to him. . . he mailed back and we had a bit of a chat. He seems a top bloke and is about to release another cd he has been slaving over.

So. If you like this, go and buy a copy and help keep an artist in funds, I think he deserves it.

Found a video of "All the best Covers of 'Somebody That I Used To Know' except Tay Zonday's" and it was done by Gotye himself.
He seemed like a rather down to earth guy in his comments and other postings.
Love this song, Friday afternoon at my work, sun in my face, RP playing loudly
This is great, and VERY different from his work with THE BASICS whom I had the pleasure to see in July {#Music}

Sigmon and Mocean Worker are two more virtual solo artists with distinctive vision and chops.
Truly extraordinary segue, Bill... Unforgettable Fire into this.
The Unforgettable Fire lead-in to this was outstanding.  Time to contribute more money.
I can't believe this album is almost 10 years old now! It still sounds really fresh to me.
Gotye is so 2012.

That's how Steven Wilson got his start. Singing all the songs, writing all the music, everything. It is on "The Sunday of Life".

Go figure. Now his an international Pop Star and Lead singer of Porcupine Tree.

I like Gotye. Friend turned me on to them at a party a couple of weeks ago. Nice sound!

I have bought two of his tracks. He strikes me as a very interesting and multifaceted artist. The tango rhythm and intensity+urgency of this tune is captivating. {#Devil_pimp}

I love Goldie, saw him 2 times live and danced my ass of. Its a shame that i only know the Song "Inner City life" from this album.
To be ontopic, imo the the Intro of this song is the best part of it.

The very beginning sounds like the intro for the Cristo Redentor (single version) by Harvey Mandel...  then it goes into that tango-ish groove... and flirts with lots of other trippy stuff that made me not like it so much when it was in heavy rotation but gives me a kick when I hear it only once in a while...  At any rate, it's just the type of stuff (interesting, diverse, nicely WEIRD) that I wonder if it'd get airplay anywhere else but here, the greatest station in this quadrant of the cosmos... LOVE THIS RP!

Sorry, but uncharacteristically I can't stand this song — overblown, pretentious production. Overblown, pretentious singer. Really grates. I too must mute (almost never happens for me on RP!)
