I'd gladly give up all I have
To find you
I'd suffer anything and be glad
I'll pay any price just to get you
I'd work all my life and I will
To win you
I'd stand naked stoned and stabbed
I call that a bargain
The best I ever had
The best I ever had
I'd gladly lose me to find you
Gladly give up all I got
To catch you
I'm gonna run and never stop
I'll pay any price just to win you
Surrender my good life for bad
To find you
I'm gonna drown an unsung man
I call that a bargain
The best I ever had
The best I ever had
I sit lookin' round
I look at my face in the mirror
I know I'm worth nothing
Without you
In Life, one and one don't make two
One and one make one
And I'm lookin' for
That free ride to me
I'm lookin' for you
I'd gladly lose me to find you
Gladly give up all I got
To catch you
I'm gonna run and never stop
I'll pay any price just to win you
Surrender my good life for bad
To find you

Could have sworn it was Pete Townsend on vocals during the chorus.
Actually, the bridge.

OK, help me out here. I mean, I love The Who, saw 'em in concert on the 4th row in 1975, have all the old vinyl albums, etc, but what do you mean when you say, "you douchebags are thinking about pee-pee?"
That probably referred to comments below about the album cover.

Definitely Daltrey. His voice was powerful, unique and very recognizable.

One of the best pieces of album cover art, too.

A classic album cover and an all time favorite album for me.
Where do you find a concrete column in the middle of nowhere anyhow.
Answer: Any major city.
Except if it's some of the greatest tunes of one of the very greatest true rock bands with stellar skills. So play it again, man.

That's right! I guess Der_Hamburger maybe was confused by the middle part which is sung by Townsend.
I'm with you, Duke!

Pete says in his autobiography that they had to pour water on it.
It is John Entwistle singing or Roger Daltrey? For me, it sounds like J.E.
Thx a lot!

Those drums are a-thumpin! Love it!
SUCKO-BARFO for the cover-photo plus title!
Childish!
WHO climbs a mountain to piss?
And another of the many-many bad Who-songs too!
PS
Believe it - I like "Tommy" and the many early hits. But their LP's
contain mostly fillers - this is a good example! Biggest Who-problem
is that Townsend can`t play the guitar!
.
dumb and boring also fits and I didn't like 'Tommy'
Got the r&b England stole from the USA and gave back. Got the west coast sound England discovered in the USA.

I meant that comment in reference to this one below:

Miss you so much, Cynaera...
love this song... love this album...
absolutely I don't care if he likes kiddie porn.
1.) A sad thing to say
2.) A stupid thing to say!

As for "the allegations" Bollocks to the bullshit cops. Pete is an innocent man.
And even if he weren't - I try to separate the art from the artist.
So I guess you walk out of a sports arena or a pub every time Rock and Roll Part 2 comes on.
Sentence one; I doubt it.
If you actually end up in court for such allegations there was substantial enough evidence to suggests otherwise. Dude payed for a child porn site with his credit card. If it were not for his high priced lawyer and I suspect a sympathetic jury who was raised on The Whos music he would have served time.
Sentence two; absolutely I don't care if he likes kiddie porn. Dude is a great songwriter and guitarists.
Sentence three; I do walk out but only because that song is horrible!!!
Oh Fred, I thought you were above "trolling"...I am sad to hear.....I'm guessing you were a "Greebo" then? (biker without a bike)
Nah - I steered clear of all teen sub-cultures if I could, not through snobbiness but simply because it could get your head kicked in. So often I saw some poor bugger dressed in a particular subculture uniform get twatted by adherents to another subculture, that I figured the 'personal statement' wasn't worth the time in Accident and Emergency. I did used to wear parkas, but mainly because they were bloody warm. Which reminds me of an old joke from the NI Troubles:
Q: Why aren't there any Mods in Northern Ireland?
A: Well, would you walk around Belfast with a target stitched on your back?
I'll get me parka...
And then I dropped acid and REALLY got it. (Just kidding.) Whatever people might say about The Who, they were pioneers, and to me, every song meant something. I guess that would explain why I'm so fu*ked up now. I love The Who.

It was the best I ever heard...
Good point well made. And exactly why I have never liked the Who. OK but just terribly overrated, weak songs, overperformed in every sense. Keith Moon was a lovable inbecile (apart from regularly dressing up as a Nazi) who was an awful drummer incapable of holding down a beat. Roger should have stayed trout farming.
And the Who still flogging that deadhorse with quite franky embarassing live shows.
The Townsend kiddy porn allegations finally allowed my mind to dismiss the Who. We won't get fooled again Pete.
"My Generation" stands alone as a classic and I have always had a soft spot for "Just a Boy".
No - I think you missed the point.
Pete - the orchestrator - knew who he had in Keith and John and he constructed the perfomances so that their job was not like 95% of all rock rythm sections - to hold down the beat.
As for the songs - brilliantly conceived and structured - growing from a unique Brit version of American R& B through a unique way of telling stories and delivering rythms and melodies in varying ways.
Roger - the epitome of a front man. Powerful, emotional vocals and great energy.
Their last tour and album — a triumphant comeback from a place where I agree they were just flogging for dollars and not performing as well.

No Stones camp? Back in my jr high days in Munster, Germany, we divided into mods and rockers. Beatles and Kinks were mods, the Who and Stones rockers.
For some reason the Stones didn't really hit us until my first year of high school. Maybe you needed some beer and girls to really appreciate the Stones. . . commodities hard to come by in Jr. High. . . we liked the Stones too. . .

Bump.
Listen closely - Moon is playing lead drums. Entwhistle is playing lead bass.
Pete keeps the rythym and lays out the melody with his guitars

Nobody, luckily for us. 1's too good for The Who. Of their time (though they were pretty irritating even then, at least for my young ears). Oh, and Mods were a bunch of proto-yuppie petit-bourgeois poncey posers (that should wind a few folk up ;)).
Oh Fred, I thought you were above "trolling"...I am sad to hear.....I'm guessing you were a "Greebo" then? (biker without a bike)
Robert Plant once told me (really) that he was a mod but liked rock n roll...he also told me he got his nose broken during a rampage in Clacton.

Kinda odd that—since The Who (nee the High Numbers) got their start as, basically, the house band for the mods.
But they certainly rock!
I was thinking the same thing. Quadrophenia certainly aligns The Who with the Mods.

Godlike!
Mods and Rockers, showing your years Hannio!
Although we weren't old enough to really experience the true "British Invasion," my Jr. High buddies and I could all be divided cleanly into 3 neat camps: The Kinks, The Beatles, and The Who. . .
Long live The Who!

You could definitely argue that. One of my all time faves.
Saw them on the Who's Next tour in Bloomington, MN. A most excellent concert.
Daltrey's scream toward the end of Won't Get Fooled Again sent chills down my spine!
Saw them a couple years back. Still enjoyable, but just not like the old days.
Check out the Who Live at the Isle of Wight or the recent live package with two live concerts from '69 and '77.
Your first concert was the Who in '71?! Every other concert must have been a disappointment!
I call this a bargain at a 9 rating
I was just going to try and say the same thing. I can't do as well as you did, let alone improve on it. Bravo!
Says it all!
The Who are wired deeply into my unconscious.
Because of Who's Next.
Every note and chord that Pete chops on Who's Next is ingrained in the soul of a generation.
Saw them - my first rock concert - August 1971 - Forest Hills Queens NYC
They really didn't make any money in their first years, had to buy new stuff for the gig-money.
So the story says.
Love their work as musicians as well!

I like the Who but feel rather indifferent. I never really dialed in, even when it was innovative and all the rage, and very much part of the background music when I was growing up.
But I really, really like the idea of listening to a radio station that plays lots of Who.
Anybody else relate to that honda? Or do you have to be over 50?
They would tell themselves that the "girls are all in the back rows, we just can't see them", but it was nothing but boys - head thrashing at the foot of the stage. A preview of the American (and British) Punk scene.
Love this vinyl.
My wife HATES it.
