Tall machines wait in line
So still lost in time
Jets turn and make no sound
Returning to the solid ground
People drift out of time
Watching numbers turn
Seems that I've been waiting here forever

Jetstream
Stormy seas
Cast adrift on a troubled dream
I've seen the sleeping ships at night
I will meet you there
The roar of the engine in the air (Jetstream)

Leave the things you don't need
And the ones that you don't love
Faith and hope
Keeps our minds together
Your heart's left the ground tonight
Scattered lost in light
Seems that I've been waiting here forever

Jetstream
Carbon seas
Cast adrift on a troubled dream
I've seen the silent jets at night
I will meet you there
The roar of the engine high in the air (Jetstream)

Sleeping ships in the night
Shining steel lost in time
Jets turn, make no sound
Returning to the safer ground
People running outta time
Lost in love, last in line
Seems I've waited here forever

Jetstream
Stormy seas
Cast adrift on a troubled dream
I see the silent jets at night
I will take you there
The roar of the engine pollutes the air

I love Doves- so many absolutely rock solid songs. I'm always pleasantly surprised when I hear them anywhere. Thanks RP!

A week in advance there's usually 5-6 models in play. Some very similar. Those get a high confidence level. Others show variations one way of the other. Low confidence.

I can see that. By the way, moving to Canada is looking better and better! That is, if Canada doesn't mind some refugees from the US who are looking to escape fascism. I'm hoping Canada is cool with this...

also, climate is predictable.

i'd really like to understand the motivation of the deniers.

personally i think it's a weird sort of "hero affinity". Going against the consensus, even if, or maybe _especially_ if, you don't understand the thing you are railing against makes you look "brave and heroic" ?

hard to say.

i think some people are just happy to be contrarian, the problem is that there are a lot of people, e.g. oil companies, who are not just contrarian but are flat out lying, and they know they are.

I guess any effort to observe the absurdity of what you appear to think is a really sharp observation is a waste of effort. However, if you cannot see that trends developing over decades to centuries (climate) and next weeks weather are profoundly different, go on believing any fantasy you wish. One segment of the society is trying to understand global scale phenomena and to develop approaches to mitigate effects that will be detrimental to human society and another segment of the same society seeks short term political gain by preying on the ignorance and superstition of the less well-educated. Why you choose to listen to one set of poorly-supported opinions and to ignore all the evidence that indicates rapid climate change, is your issue to understand. I surely cannot.

Also love the reference to the inhumanity of waiting in airports and the hope of fresh horizons. This song drives me forward to an awesome 9. Great album too.

As much as I enjoy this song, I would hate it if RP played this more often to the exclusion or diminution of Shpongle or Cab Calloway or (whatever the hell you were trying to reference there). The Epiphany Of Mrs. Kugla will get me to crank up the volume quicker than anything from Doves (no slight to the boys from Cheshire, just that TEOMK is amazing) and Minnie The Moocher still brings a smile to my lips more often than not.

And one should always strive to be humble; acknowledging your lack of it is perhaps the first step to getting there.
Doves are finally working on a new album!

Iceland?  Yes.  On a population weighted basis, it may get more turns on RP than any other country.   Excuse me if I lumped Iceland in with Scandinavia.

Iceland punches well above its weight in several categories.

1)  Ability to quickly recover from a domestic financial crisis.  (Seriously, the rest of us are not worthy!)

2) Film

3) Film settings

4) Fine, high quality, intensively managed sea-run brown trout and Atlantic salmon fly fishing in an absolutely stupendous natural setting.

5)  Big icecap close at hand.....  for those who like skiing across the icecap.

On a proportional basis in terms of rotation on radio paradise, I reckon that Canada punches well above its demographic weight and that is with little or no québécois pop music (which is excellent IMO).  Quebec comprises a little over 20% of the Canadian population.

On a proportional basis, Scandinavia punches even higher than Canada.

Naturally, it is hard not to play British acts.  Instead of painting half the world red, the British now offer some of the best quality contemporary music to be found anywhere.

In that respect I reckon that US radio paradise listeners are very lucky to get this kind of cosmopolitan exposure.  Then radio paradise plays more than a few obscure American acts that would get little or no airplay elsewhere.

My wish list:  more Israeli music, more Arab music, more of the lesser known Argentinian and Brazilian music.   Artists and musicians are the messengers of social change.  They should be 'engaged' everywhere all the time.

Great song. Doves also digitally-released an instrumental version of the album, Instrumentals of Rust, on which this track is even more powerful IMO.

Rdo, et.al.:

Hmmmm....not sure about that, though at a base level I'd argue a country with great food makes not so great music.  France?   Great food.  Name me the last anyone's music from their region.  UK?  Food...bleech....music?  Great.  Germany?  Scandinavia?  Somewhere in between on both.

I jest...but it does seem to be somewhat pertinent although I'll admit the logical fallacy of the arguement.  BUT....this is a Western ego-centric "thang," ain't it?   The East has produced some stunning music.  India, China, Japan.  But it certainly isn't modeled on Western ideals what with their particular tonalities and such.  So for me it comes to this.  Music, like all art, an be considered in the eye of the beholder.  But it's made by human beings.  As such, and as a non-musician, it's interesting to me.  It's one of the reasons I like RP so much.  Pablum ain't their musical style, and I appreciate hearing stuff I would never, ever, hear otherwise sprinkled thru that I do (more) easily recognize.  .  To RP I say...keep up the good work.  It certainly beats machine programmed pap.

Just sayin'...

Thanks for reviving the video link from the Grade 7 kids! I was thrilled to learn recently from one of the moms of these students (brushed by each other in the mall) that Jack is readying for high school graduation by taking multiple multimedia courses and doing filmmaking on the side. Plant in a seed in a youngster's brain, and there's no telling where he/she might take it. Jack spearheaded the Doves project, and just ran with it. I was blown away.

When did Coldplay innovate something?

First time I heard them, I thought Thom Yorke had offed himself and Radiohead got themselves another singer!

And this is my first Doves experience... solid 7!

Wow, I think this makes so much sense.  Maybe that explains the modern music that Germany is known for (it ain't their pop rock).

Classical music is largely instrumental, Italian opera dominated at the time 'cause they invented it. Similarly English rock/pop dominates because it was invented in the English speaking world and non English acts sing in English if they want to be heard outside of their country.

Sir Bill often play non English acts, which could be why we're all here.. I guess.

Hey, they don't call us Stabmonton for nothing, you know.  Major problem with knives here in the last five years or so.

But yeah...as an ex-Vancouverite, the gang problem there is mounting heavily.  Good luck my friend, keep ur head down.

SPECIAL!

We're so proud!  {#Sunny}

In passing I would like to thank the American neighbours for supplying most of the illegal hand guns.  Without you we would feel so "left out", so "unimportant", so "insecure".    THANK YOU!

Oh, agreed! This is what the last New Order album should have been like. Luckily, we have Doves to pick up where they left off.

I think these folks are much better than New Order, although I did like Power, Corruption and Lies...

Anyone notice where the arpeggio comes from?

Well, as long as there was no gun play in the concert, everything is cool.

where is the +8 funny?

It's one of the best britpop albums I have ever heard!  Teen music with adult content in perfect balance!

One of the first Doves songs I've heard that I actually like.

Was about to give it a 4, but it just got good. This one is a grower.
Yawn.

Tasty!
Yah, baby!

Ohhh... I'm lovey Dovey! {#Dancingbanana_2}
Oooh. This is the first time I've managed to catch this one. Diggin' it.

Sounds like the Doves, but like they've been feeding on a New Order diet since their last album.
New Doves Order.

And now Bill tells us the album isn't even out until April, so I guess we haven't even hit the heavy rotation yet.

I suspect that when the CD gets released and Bill can add a few more tracks, you'll hear less of this one and more of the newer stuff

Had this stuck in my head all weekend, which means it's either 'really good' or 'really bad but has a clever hook'.   At the moment I'm tending to the 'really good' , but things could change after a few more thousand listens.

And now Bill tells us the album isn't even out until April, so I guess we haven't even hit the heavy rotation yet.
Thank you RP for turning me on to the Doves...{#Jump}

Right-e-o..... it's different enough that I wouldn't recognize it as a Doves track. Is someone else providing the lead vocal on this one?

Jimi Goodwin usually does lead vocals but occasionally one of the other 2 chip in, in this case, Jez Williams does, who also takes lead vocals on 'Words'.

The more I hear it, the more I like it, especially when I can turn up the volume and let it blast from the speakers.
Had this one on repeat for three days running!

Hearing this for the 3rd time now, and i had to come back to the computer to see who it was.
I guess its got a good hook for me.
If the rest of the album is like this i'll probably be seeking this one out.
Thanks again RP.
A good segue from this song should be the My Morning Jackets song...come on Bill, you are supposed to know these before I think of them.
