Is there anybody going to listen to my story
All about the girl who came to stay?
She's the kind of girl
You want so much it makes you sorry
Still you don't regret a single day
Ah, girl
Girl, girl
When I think of all the times
I've tried so hard to leave her
She will turn to me and start to cry
And she promises the Earth to me
And I believe her
After all this time I don't know why
Ah, girl
Girl, girl
(Tit-tit-tit-tit tit-tit-tit-tit)
She's the kind of girl who puts you down
(Tit-tit-tit-tit)
When friends are there (tit-tit-tit-tit)
You feel a fool (tit-tit-tit-tit tit-tit-tit-tit)
(Tit-tit-tit-tit tit-tit-tit-tit)
When you say she's looking good (tit-tit-tit-tit tit-tit-tit-tit)
She acts as if it's understood (tit-tit-tit-tit tit-tit-tit-tit)
She's cool (tit-tit-tit-tit)
Ooh (tit-tit-tit-tit)
Ooh (tit-tit-tit-tit)
Ooh (tit-tit-tit-tit)
Girl
Girl, girl
Was she told when she was young
That pain would lead to pleasure?
Did she understand it when they said
That a man must break his back
To earn his day of leisure?
Will she still believe it when he's dead?
Ah, girl
Girl, girl

Back in the early '70's as a little child my elder brothers had a tape of The Beatles (and tapes of other bands). For summerholidays we went to France by car, which had one of the first radio-cassette-players. Unfortunately my brothers forgot the others tapes to take with them, so the entire holiday we only heard The Beatles play. So I thought The Beatles were French and still so many songs of them I associate with that summerholiday. A warm memory, though.

Anything below G O D L I K E is a crime against music
First Beatles song I heard at the age of 5 in Communist Poland. My parents bought the album while spending their honey moon in Western Europe.
Everybody in my mushrooming multitude of churches be slow-dancing buck ass naked all across the holy moly world like bowlegged gypsy muleskinners and B.F. Skinner... we love this splendiferous song... love this great classic album... love sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll...

just changed my raring from 9 to 10....sorry didnt know what i was thinking....DOH
Now that is stereophonic at it's best!
I don't know just what you mean z, I'm no beatle fan but this song is working it's little magic on me, and I would say that even if I was told Ringo wrote it (or Yoko)
Giiiiirllllllllllllllll!
There's an undeniably strong sentimental feeling to this song. The fact that its John's tune makes it pliable today. Had it been Paul's...it would be difficult to digest.
takes me back to 65 listening to Rubber Soul on the Hi-Fi...
Memories of my sisters and I, standing on chairs playing our yardstick guitars! The oldest always got to be John..
Hard to listen to this without being distracted by them sucking on that joint.
..John's departure date today (08.Dec)..fare thee well to a giant in music & life..

I think this album was pivotal in that it began the transistion from Mop-Top pop idols to their next phase. It bridges the gap nicely between teen sensation and what was coming with the Revolver/Sgt Pepper artistry. Still one of my faves.

The Liverpudlian influence can be heard in the line: "a man must break his back to earn his day of leisure." Beautiful song!

I have always loved the Beatles' music, (this song in particular) and I believe I understand the point you are making, but with all due respect, your analogy is not really a valid one. The astronomical details you cite in your last sentence are facts - established through scientific methods. Liking or disliking a particular artist is a matter of personal aesthetics, not a matter of verifiable science. Perhaps some listeners who were not born while The Beatles existed don't "get" them, especially if hearing their 40+ year-old, 4-track recordings compared to today's ultra-technical recordings, (though I know some people in their 50's and 60's who never thought much of The Fab Four either). Statistical and/or critical data will seldom "convert" anyone when it comes to matters of taste. Just because other peoples' tastes may vary from yours, or those of the masses, doesn't mean those people are delusional.

Music is taste, so that's not a very good argument. If you can tell me why somebody would like a low fidelity recording with all of the (screechy) vocals on one side, then I'm open to attempt at understanding.

What's in the history books are seldom the truth, remeber this kids played themselves together in Germany, what went around there early 60's,is up to anyones guess, exept for the ones that was there. The song I used to not like, but today a 9.

According the Anthology, its just a song about a girl, with a jab at christianity in the last verse. By the time Rubber Soul was released none of them was doing any hard drugs yet, which makes this conjecture of the song being about coke unlikely.

Where did you get this? Any sources?
According the Anthology, its just a song about a girl, with a jab at christianity in the last verse. By the time Rubber Soul was released none of them was doing any hard drugs yet, which makes this conjecture of the song being about coke unlikely.
wow. I haven't heard this song in like, forever!

Is that a ukulele playing in the background??
It certainly sounds like one.
By the way, I don't think I've ever listened to this over headphones before. It sure sounds weird to have the vocals in one ear and the instruments in the other.
such a great, simple song... love the lyrics.
their best album if you ask me.

Just looked at the track listing, and I think I just might give every track on there a 10. And I'm not even that big a Beatles fan. Really. This album is just so great, for me the best they ever did.
Maybe nowhereman a 9?
ok, that was an excellent transition from acoustic
'weeping guitar' cover to this...
nice job bill.

How many Godlike songs do they have? Just when you think they're done, another one pops up!
hear hear !!
and is that a ukulele ?
Despite protestations to the contrary below; yes, I am certain there's a ukulele in the latter half of the song.
