Damn. I dig this dude’s music and talents. Saw him while I colleged in Gainesville. He rocked hard and put on a great show. 

Sadly, they’re just not making any more like him.

Never too late to be a fan. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers was the first rock concert I ever went to (without parents -- Chuck Berry in a Casino before that). It was in a high school gymnasium just before Damn the Torpedos came out and they hit the big time right after (amazing album -- every song rocks).  Their stage show was just a huge confederate flag behind them. They absolutely rocked and I got chills down my spine -- knowing I was watching history in the making. Thanks for all the fantastic music, Tom.

just watched Sound City last night and really enjoyed seeing Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers during the early days. great film about the guys who gave a lot of bands a reasonably priced place to record...even Rick Springfield was interesting

The intracacies of this song are brilliant as is much of Tom and Mike's music.  Love rockin' out to this song.  For some reason I wish it was longer and in the same sentence it's the perfect length so I just want to listen to it again, only louder...Love hearing this tune every time.

I never was a Petty fan. Only after he died did I start to hear songs I liked and RP was one of the sources. Not sure why I never checked him out live.

Ironically, my wife and I were talking tonight about what would become of the Heartbreakers now. We had no answer. Petty was the/their only songwriter. I'm pretty sure Campbell and Blair could find work if they wanted it. Of course Benmont Tench has been moonlighting for years. Steve Ferrone is a great drummer, and Scott Thurston a terrific multi-instrumentalist, but still...what comes of a great band apparently dependent on its namesake?

Might fine, tight little pop song. Takes a great deal of work to cram the ideas into a format like this. Think how dense and powerful the idea-transmission (Gedankenübertragung?) of songs like "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" or "Sympathy For The Devil" where strong images combine with a kickass, unforgettable melody.
