The way I feel is like a robin
whose babes have flown to come no more
like a tall oak tree alone and cryin'
when the birds have flown and the nest is bare
Now a woman Lord is like a young bird
and the tall oak tree is a young man's heart
among his boughs you'll find her nesting
when the nights are cool she's warm and dry

Your coat of green it will protect her
her wings will grow your love will too
But all too soon your mighty branches
will cease to hold her and she'll fly from you

Now the way I feel is like a robin
whose babes have flown to come no more
like a tall oak tree alone and cryin'
when the birds have flown and the nest is bare
when the birds have flown and the nest is bare

She could sing the telephone book and I'd give it an 8.

Nice cover.  Didn't know this was a Lightfoot song.
Fotheringay does my favorite version of this song played on RP

Then you may have not heard Lightfoot's original. Not saying anybody has a lock on singing from the soul....
Triple win.  Lightfoot has always been amazing. Had no idea it was a GL song and the Cowboy Junkies took it and flew.  What's even better is now I know about Fotheringay.  HUGE fan of Nick Drake/ production value of Island Records and the impact of Fairport Convention.  This band opens up a whole new chapter I have the pleasure of listening to!   but I digress, let's get back to the song.  Added to the perma-playlist.  Solid work Mr Gordon.
Very nice take on this song, but I prefer the Fotheringay version.
Like others here, I am familiar with the Fotheringay version first. Yet this is somewhat spectacular in it's inimitable downbeat way. Vive la Canada!

Gorgeous writing, Mr Lightfoot.
They knock this outta the ball-park.
I only knew the Fotheringay version and although not well-versed with Lightfoot's work beyond those that received airplay decades go, this is a very vice surprise.

Great cover version - not trying to simply replicate the original.
Marvellous - Junkies and Lightfoot all in one song.
This is a much rawer sound I'm used to with this group. Nice.
