They've been sayin' you're sophisticated
They're complainin', overeducated
You are saying all the words I'm dreaming
Say it after me
Say it after me
They will blame us, crucify and shame us
We can't help it if we are a problem
We are tryin' hard to get your attention
I'm climbin' up your wall
Climbin' up your wall

Don't go there 'cause you'll never return
I know you think of me when you think of her
But then it don't make sense when you're trying hard
To do the right thing, but without recompense
And then you did something wrong and you said it was great
And now you don't know how you could ever complain
Because you're all confused 'cause you want me too
But then you want me to do it the same as you

You were waitin' for the elevator
You were sayin' all the words I'm dreaming
No more askin', questions, or excuses
The information's here
Here and everywhere

I don't, I don't want anything
I know it's not, it's not your fault
I don't want anyone
As I do it's not for you

Their music has me chair dancing at work and their lyrics are sublime!
Loved it but because of RP getting sick of it. Hear it all the time!  Just like most songs it seems.
I really liked this tune when it came out. I bought it, played the heck out of it, then forgot all about it.
Hearing it again after 4 years and remembering it along with memories of COVID when it was released (funny how music does that). I think I'll obsess on it again and build some newer, better memories to associate it with.
Humongous Strokes fan here  my 3rd "godlike" on RP

Belle and Sabastian would be welcomed addition here.  Don't think I have heard them on RP.

Sonically too to start with, I thought it was something maybe new from Belle and Sebastian, had to stop what i was doing and check.  RP has a a number of their songs on the playlist but I don't think I've heard any recently, hence my curiosity.  I think it is a shame that RP no longer includes the 'last played' and 'plays in the last 30 days' stats...  looking at the comments seems that a few of their songs are still in occasional rotation, but most haven't been played in over 10 years.  Also in terms of ratings they seem to have been quite a polarising band, so never average that high.
This leaves me kind of longing for more and unsatisfied  (like candy) - it's a bit too "clever" and contrived.
Really like it. haven’t heard this album.
Forgot about them though their music takes me back to a very cool part of my life living in London.
I'd probably like this song a lot more if I hadn't heard a very similar tune on a recent Saturday Night Live sketch.  Of course it had totally different lyrics, but that image pops into my mind every time it gets played.  (Maybe I should cut back on my tv watching. )
Just seen them play live (2023) @Cala Mijas Festival and they were awesome.
Under-rated is not sufficient to describe this band. Very choice track :-)
This is effin' delightful and kinda makes me feel 20 again.

Wait, I'm not? When did that happen?

It's very bouncy, ain't it?

Oooops. I mean "tres" bouncy.

I love how they do such righteous homage to The Cars near the end...some truly astounding jamming in this song; they ace it on many levels here! After a few listens, it clicks into vibe even better.

Yup, 'xactly!

Near the end with the guitar hard panned to the right, played loudly  on the big-system as I work-from-home on this SUNNY Friday afternoon, got me vibin' with 4:20pm quitting time quickly approaching...this one gets the +1 to 8 and RP gets the +1 to Infinity +1; LLRP!!

I think that is very good advice when discussing art, whether music or painting. You think he's a fraud? Good for you. Do I love his work? Yes. I'll heed your earlier advice.

Excellent response.  I stand corrected.
ya gotta love the title
My partner has the hugest crush on Julian. My son saw the Strokes in Mexico City and said by his performance he'd be at home at our dinner table. As if. Not letting him near her.
This one really surprised me in how simple yet how good it is.
This is nice!

I agree with you... although I wasn't much of a fan to begin with, this is pretty decent
Quite likeable!

It's not so difficult given their long streak of weak albums.
Wonder if they were singing about Donald Trump and his misfits:)

They need a critic and celebrity to sell it.
had a bit of a Big Country guitar sound that was appealing...fun beat here.

YEAH, new Strokes! Pretty freaking good, too! Got this on i-Tunes almost as soon as it came out. Made me dig out and jam all their stuff. What a band! Glad they're back! The Strokes and RP rock!

It's not so difficult as last albums were below average.
Thought this was Travis for a minute .  .  .

Agreed! Really dig this album.
Won best album at the Grammies for a reason
Been dying to buy this album but none of the local shops have it. They say it's on back order.

I never got the popularity of these guys.  Still don't.

It's not all that hard to understand in a broader perspective IMO.
Early 2000's, these guys came in with a BANG. Had that sort of grungy look/feel going, truly kickstarting the hipster-look  :-D
But the music just happened to be really exciting as well. They never claim to be modern day Mozarts, they just have a really good ear wrt musical history and they happen to tick a lot of my musical hero-boxes, from The Clash to Ramones over Dandy Warhols.
Back in the day (nah I'm not that old yet but I'm getting there) you had that revived underground garage rock scene with Strokes, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Mooney Suzuki, The Hives, e.a. but The Strokes just sort of came out on top because of their fantastic rhythm section and very catchy hooks/solo's.
Bit of a rebellious counter trend to all the boy bands of the late nineties and they absolutely deserve their spot on a lot of rock 'n roll top lists imo!
lyrically I am hearing Belle and Sabastian.

First time hearing this on RP, or anywhere.
Seeking a 1968 groove, this tune took a wrong turn off POP AM and couldn't find the Bubbly Sex Pistols.

I usually like The Strokes, but I'm not feeling this one.
Going with a 5 rating on my first listen

There's a lot of "Is this it" in this...
