So I took my medication
And I poured my trauma out
On some sad-eyed middle aged man's
Over-priced new leather couch
And we argued about Jesus
Finally found some middle ground
I said I'm cured
And I've divvied up my anger
Into thirty separate parts
Keep the bad shit in my liver
And the rest around my heart
And I'm still angry at my parents
For what their parents did to them
But it's a start
But I ignore things
And I move sideways
'Till I forget what
I felt in the first place
At the end of the day
I know there are worse ways
To stay alive
'Cause everyone's growing
And everyone's healthy
I'm terrified that I might never have met me
Oh, if my engine works perfect on empty
I guess I'll drive
I guess I'll drive
So I forgot my medication
Fell into a manic high
Spent my savings at a Lulu
Now I'm suffering in style
Why is pain so damn impatient
Ain't like it's got a place to be
Keeps rushing me
But I ignore things
And I move sideways
'Till I forget what
I felt in the first place
At the end of the day
I know there are worse ways
To stay alive
'Cause everyone's growing
And everyone's healthy
I'm terrified that I might never have met me
Oh, if my engine works perfect on empty
I guess I'll drive
And if all my life was wasted
I don't mind I'll watch it go
It's better to die numb than feel at all
Oh, if all my time was wasted
I don't mind I'll watch it go
It's better to die numb than feel at all
So I ignore things
And I move sideways
'Till I forget what
I felt in the first place
At the end of the day

Sounds like maybe he'd enjoy a vacation in Vermont for a bit.
there are so many great songs on this album that probably won’t be played because their considered “too mainstream” which is a shame

nice comment, wholeheartedly concur
the last line makes me think of Northern-Irish indiepunkrockers Therapy? with frontman Andy Cairns singing 'And I know that you need music more than you need love' in the song Jam Jar Jail. Great tune that attests to the same sentiment, but I guess I'd have to switch to the Rock mix for a chance to hear that
Some resonant lyrics here! "...I'm still angry at my parents for what their parents did to them..." I can relate! And what a great way to share and decompress; nice songwriting, and some lovely strumming, too! MUSIC...IS YOUR ONLY FRIEND...until The End...

Yeah, need to take a few deep breaths after this one.
The lyrics. Whoa. Tearing up.....
Real hints of Ed Sheeran's The A Team

I'm from '97... Man I'm feeling old right now.
If you're going to be lame and pathetic, at least make it sound interesting. So generic.
I'm liking this but... it sounds like Paolo Nuttini impersonating Paul Simon
This epitomizes the new trend of RP playing whiny singers. My life is sooooo hard - I better write another whiny song....solid 1.

Totally thought this was Brett Dennen. Or maybe it’s the bourbon…? I like!
Gave it a mediocre 6 first. Than I started to listen to the lyrics, reading along. It's a solid 8 now for me :)

I Know!! '97 is - like - 6 years ago surely? He's growing on me too, even if he should still be in the early years of school

Apologies in advance, but I just can't get next to this guy or this song.

A bit too whiney for my taste. Almost up there with The Decemberists.
