Cold black nite
Blood red moon
Conju woman
Singin' a zombi tune
Litening crash
Thunder boom
Standing alone
At the crossroad of doom
[Chorus]
She paint my holy cross red
Burn black candles
At the corners of my bed
Ain't never been so afraid
of the livin' or the dead
As I am of the woman
Witchy red
Hang my picture upside down
Swamp root vine
Keep me bound
Saw tooth grass
On my crown
On my trail a hell hound
[Repeat Chorus]
Black cat bone dressed in bath tub gin
Mojo satchel made out of human skin
Dam balla and his next of kin
Made this fool get religion and give up his sin
Blood red moon
Conju woman

Thunder boom
Standing alone

Anyone else catch that snippet of Eleanor Rigby dropped in by the flute?
God - I miss my dear friend John. I hope he's hearing this, too. <3

Heard an interview with Dr. John and when asked about his voice he said:
(paraphrasing)
"My voice is a product of too many cigarettes and too much whiskey"
77 years is not bad a score for that rough a player

Only vaguely aware of this guy but 'this' song is great!
A song like this could only originate in New Orleans. Here's to the most unusual city in the USA.
Is it still a 9 or already a 10?

I know you just wrote those negative comments to set-up your punchline. NOLA has their own sound fer' shur, but it ain't gettin' old.
Don't mean to start a problem...but the old Doctor has one song style. He's a one trick pony.
If you heard one of his songs, you've heard them all. The schitck is getting old.
I was in the right place, at the wrong time.

I never knew Dr. John was fashionably influenced by Milli Vanilli.
R.I.P. Dr. John
RIP Dr. John
RIP Doctor John !

Mighty Nice
How have I managed to reach the age of 57 and never heard this?
Never heard this before, which is just wrong.

Lovin' this!
This is the guy who removed my lung tumor.
Very excited to have tickets to see him in a couple of months.
What a remarkable musician and person. This one is nice; for me it is the total of his work and life that is most impressive.
First saw him in his voodoo days and a few times since. Unique, certainly.

Way back when I saw him in his Nightripper mode at a small club in Raleigh. He had obviously had a drink or two, but it was an interesting show, not the least for the fact that for his encore he sang all 109 known verses of "Stag-o-lee" from memory.
he was hard into herion in dem days, was scary as hell at times always put on a killer show.....

Indeed! GBTNO should be required listening in 8th grade Louisiana History classes. If you have any interest in New Orleans music (very different from the many varieties of Cajun music), do yourself a favor and listen to "Goin' Back To New Orleans." Preferably on the way there. The liner notes are gold.

Saw Dr John do this on Bourbon Street on Saint Patrick's Day in the late 90's with my wife and son. Oh yeah.

Thanks for the brain-slap. I'll have to dig that old cassette out. I haven't listened to it since I changed my diet.
Dr. John is the original Nightripper.
Back in 68 when the original hippy was fresh in the grave, Dr. John recorded the snakiest gumbo ever recoreded.
Check out Gris Gris - right now.
He was called Dr. John the Night Tripper back then.
Listen to Walk On Gilded Splinters or Gris Gumbo Ya Ya or, for that matter any other tune on this awesome piece of work.
The good Doc has held steady thru the years but this is one of his peaks and mostly ubheard.
Mos' highly (no, higher than that) recommended.
Hey RP! I ben gone... I'm back

Chase that with "Somewhere down the crazy river"
very cool song
Nice! Love the sample of Witchy Woman. More Dr. John!!!
Guess his voice just does NOT resonate with me.
Is that Eleanor Rigby that he plays in the harmonica or am I just hearing things? It's all so weird in this halloween!

"Walk on gilded splinters", for sure. Last heard with a head full of zid, listening to the X on the headphones at 2:30 am, somewhere in suburban Hometown, U.S.A., circa the late '60s.
