You, who are on the road must have a code that you can live by.
And so become yourself because the past is just a good bye.
Teach your children well, their father's hell did slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams, the one they pick's the one you'll know by.
Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you would cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.
And you, of tender years can't know the fears that your elders grew by,
And so please help them with your youth, they seek the truth before they can die.
Teach your parents well, their children's hell will slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams, the one they pick's the one you'll know by.
Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you would cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.

After all, if there had ever been a providence, they had to visit earth!
The best album in the world....
Two of my '10' rated songs back-to-back! LLRP!!
Those harmonies are unmatched :-)
What would you rate a 10 if not this?

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Still have the vinyl original love it big time after all these years
I've always liked this one. Stole this album (original with "stickered" picture on front) off my parents and still have it 40 years later.
Introduced to several artists through this piece.
Can't believe this has never been played.
That's about as perfect and evocative as a song can get.
yes, "Déjà Vu", was year 1970, was era of records in vinyl, that good memories of this time, where rock-music was treated so well, virtuosity, elegance, innovation, voices, impressive until today;
other musicians who had participated in this album: Greg Reeves, bass guitar, percussion; Dallas Taylor, drums, percussion; John Sebastian, harmonica on "Déjà vu";
remembering Mr. Jerry Garcia, participation in this album playing Pedal steel guitar on "Teach Your Children"
** 10 **
It was exactly what he wanted!
