maria lays in the tannin bed
and reads the tuesday news
shes down there evry week at the
same time with the same old blues
she reads the funny papers
and then the classifieds
and if she aint too sleepy theres the
weather report on the flipside
and this kansas life is a hard one
for a girl from miami
you're just starin out at the oil fields
and thats all that i can see
her old mans in the same place
since the company let him go
just sippin the pabst blue ribbon and
cussin amoco
maria drives home
from the tannin bed
and the black clouds
roll across the sky
she pulls into the trailor park pops the
trunk and calls the kids outside
said theres a twister commin
and you havent got a clue
i aint gonna sit here in this double
wide and wait around for you
cause im takin the microwave oven
and im takin the color tv
and im packin up the chevy
with the kids and whats left of me
this kansas life is a hard one
for a girl form miami
just starin out at the oil fields

This is country, death to country music!
Only thing worse than his music is having to look at that damn album cover.

I thank you for this insight into The Lone Star lifestyle, cc_rider.
This song reminds me of the grittier moments of "Friday Night Lights."
Single-wide?!? That's fer soft wusses. Campers are for real men. And no, I don't have a glass for your beer.
Naw. REAL country is single wides. Them double wides is what those dang uppity neighbors got, down the road a piece. Ever since they took the wheels off'n that thing, they'ze been putting on airs like they'ze royalty or sumting. Shawn Mullins is pretty good. I think he'll get better too. c.

Kurt Cobain reincarnated. Love this guy and the whole album is a winner.
Now there's a visual for you- this guy, butt naked in a tanning bed.
This song is like seven layers of delicious flavour.
Tanning Bed? Try, this puts me to sleep!
...lush production here, very very lush...
very good. but the best song is "lullaby".
This is another guy I could live without (along with David Gray)
I remember seeing Shawn at Eddie's Attic in Hotlanta. He even played at my friend's wedding reception.
Cue Barbra - "Memories, like the corners of my mind..."

Mullet's all business in the front, and party in the back.
Tom Waits' bastard son?
He wishes!

A Double Wide is only for them's who's made a hit....
For some reason, I just don't like any of this guy's songs.

Shawn Mullin, believe it or not, is a great live, solo show. I've seen him twice in a tiny venue in Berkeley, California and he delivers. Without the record companies pushing his sound in the wrong direction all the time, the guy is a hard-working, decent troubador. He's paid his dues, that's for sure, so I cut him a little slack when I hear his Top 40 style cuts.
great strings arrangement here, i like it alot, percussion too, just have to get used to the voice? been off the playlist for 4 years, wow!
I have grown weary of the other Shawn Mullins songs played here on RP. This is a welcome addition.
wasn\'t his previous \"hit\" a song sorta similar to this one?
I would say you are a pretty lucky person if you are getting this type of music at your local open mike. Some of us are not quite that lucky.
You are right, Shawn.. This is quite pleasant.
For the rest of you,
Turning your nose up to good music is why I tuned into it. You hate what I like. I guess you never saw much of life. Sorry about that.
Now, I want to make it the new hit.
Thanks guys!
