No pinch harmonics?
Fun! Swingin'! Cool!

Agreed, If I had submitted this to the LRC, it surely would have been rejected.
Long live Big Al.
This would fall into the 'novelty' catagory.
Funny, I keep seeing furry beards, furry guitars and sunglasses.
Why, Bill?
This is just wrong.
With a couple more tattoos that gal on the cover would be an Amy Winehouse twin ... Huuummmm, maybe with some more crack breath too ... other than that ... this swing version is -- "inventive" ...
Wow! I didn't know that this song could actually sound worse!
Great group but ZZ Top is rolling around writhing in agony.
Wow, 8.5 on da radio... nice, nice. i saw these guys play in my freshman dorm at UT... not with this singer of course... they never recovered from that IMO...

That sounds remarkably close to physicsgenius' "90% or everything is crap" motto.
This band is fun live. Not sure if they're still together.
Give these guys a break! This album is quite good.

ditto!

The cover (art) tells me that the cover (song) sucks.
This is an excellent example of why I generally hate cover songs.

ZZ Top was popular way, way before mullets took hold of the small brains of the airwaves.
This song sucks, by the way. Crapola of the highest order.
When I was little I thought they were saying "Shotgun Man". I just thought women were crazy about guys that rode shotgun. hahaha
Great cover!! Her voice isn't the best, but this is still pretty inspired.
A seamless transition, Bill!
I'd rather have a girl with a voice like that sing me this song than a bunch of guys in long beards, that's for sure. Great album cover, too.
This sounds like the generic bar singer in the generic bar in the generic buddy movie.
It was my looking for an internet station that would play this song that got me to RP!
Yeah! Smooth, sultry, jazzy.
My guess is that this would get much better reviews if ZZ had never done it.

The vocals remind me of the breathy underpowered singing of the lead for Swing Out Sister (remember them?).
Yeah, I do recall Swing Out Sister "Break Out". This is kinda like them. I believe they covered "ShaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLa (Means I love you) for 4 Weddings and a Funeral. Very adult contemporary stuff.
I guess it states my opinion of ZZ Top when I say I prefer this over ZZ's, and I rate this a 4 (maybe 3).
Don't much care for the original, but I care for this even less. Blech.
No, thank you.

Eh? What have fish got to do with rock?

It's one of the greatest rock/blues tunes ever, and it does not deserve this punishment!
yikes. i agree. if you want to hear it, listen to the original! so much better.

Yep, I'd second that - nowt can beat ZZ Top's original, and certainly not an over-jazzed 'sophisto' version of it. Mind you, The Hamsters (https://www.thehamsters.co.uk/), a great live UK band, do a good version which closely follows the zip and burn of the original.
Silly.
But not in a good way...
I can't believe so many people hated this . . . It cracked me up when I first heard it and it cracks me up now. Much like Richard Cheese's covers do. Very amusing.

This sounds a lot better this time around.
I normally have no patience for those who can't stand remakes on principal, but this is not good. Please, no more.
I'm sad to hear that they broke up. THey were still together and having a great time when last I called Austin home (though I still do in my mind).

Really Bad!
kinda' fun.
This is advise I gave my godson at the age of 1 1/2.

Agreed! Vocals are kinda weak but the keyboard rocks!
austin blues! :)
but those freeform vocals at the end are kinda bleh...
Not so bad... but messin with ZZ isn't adviseable.
Is this the band that goes through singers like used underwear, or am I thinking of someone else? They sound different than they used to.

I don't exactly hate it, but I'm far from lovin' it.

Pretty sure they broke up. Too bad. They were great live. You can still catch the keyboardist Grover Gill around town a lot of places. He's had a ton of bands.
Yuck.
....And every girl izz.
Aw... Yeah! cool.
and I like to wear a clean shirt sometimes too.
Vive la diference !! ZZ Top vs 8œ Souvenirs
Love to hear such equally valid but oh so different versions

Forget that Johnny Cash - Rusty Cage cover from earlier; this is a sweet cover!

This is hilarious! I'm picturing Dusty and the gang sitting in the front row of a small, dark jazz club, with zoot suits and cigarette holders, snapping their fingers along with the jazzy beat... :)

oh you are no fun! when i first heard this, Bill followed it up with ZZ's "La Grange"... i am crossing my fingers for it this time too!

Oh, I disagree. This is much better - and much easier on the eyes...
You got to check out the rest of the album - this was their 'cute' cover song, but the rest is actually much better and quite unique. Their set on Austin City Limits some years ago was inspired. Wonder what happened to these guys (from Austin, I think)?
Oh my god! What have they done to this engenious ZZ-Top song: I love the original but I hate this!
Very interestng idea.......Bad execution.........
It's... good, but not great. Well arranged, organized, and engineered. Clear, talented. But the song originally was a tongue in cheek bit - even as ZZtop themselves are pretty goofy. Eight and a Half could have had SO much fun with this by keeping the 'off' aspect of it, instead they basically just remixed it as a jazz-club cover. Add horns and an upright bass.
An opportunity missed, IMHO.
Another gem from the 90s Austin music scene. Who better to cover a Texas band than a Texas band....

Yes.
Now appearing in the Jet Age Retro-Googie Cocktail Lounge . . . ZZ Top?!?
So absurd you have to love it!
The original would get a nice high rating. I'm being extremely generous by giving this a 2.
Oh yeah, feeling that bassline... bmmm bmm bmm toe-tapping stuff
... but does she have a big, bushy beard?
cover of the mighty ZZ.. the nerve of it... that's gettin a one for moral infringements.
This is fun! :)
Ug. Stop this please.
Ew. Ick. Horrible. Not good. Bad, very bad cover.
Cool concept! I'm likin' it.
lol
No.
Heh. Fun stuff.
jeez, just last night i was thinking how much i'd like to hear this sang by a woman...
Good cover.

Totally engrossing cover. I look forward to hearing it again.
Wow. Vocals are so-so, but man, dig the charts that band is tossing around!
give it up fiona, youre as sexy as a can of tuna fish.
I like it. It makes me miss the original just a little. It's got it's own flavor. 8 1/2 from me.
Suddenly feel the need to hear the real thing with ZZ Top ..... plus, the guitar solo is much better than the piano - even though these are good musicians.
I like zz but never this one.
Why anyone would cover it is beyond me, but I like the orchestration.
Um... nah. She can be sexy with her own stuff.
Ok, after listening a little longer I hate it even more! Bad wedding cover quality.
Awful! She can't even sing!
Dare I say it?
Better than the original!
Play it again!
Nice, B&R!
This song is truly amazing. Love it. This could be one of the best "cover" songs ever because it is fantastic in its own right. Right On RP.
RP - You never cease to amaze me..... This is great stuff.
Just was listening to the original this morning and this is really good too
Wow...
