the movement of the horns from left to right is fantastic… love the production of this one
Not necessarily a great song by him, but DH is so much more interesting as a solo artist than with the Eagles. I much prefer solo Don!

Well put. So Henley's an asshole (reportedly) and the song was omnipresent back then. What difference? It's a great song and relevant at the time.
There's a definite time and place depicted in this song. The early/mid 80's in Central America. The US was simultaneously supporting a counter insurgency in El Salvador and a guerilla (guer not gor, HUGE difference) insurgency in Nicaragua while running cocaine into America (in the middle of the "war on drugs") to illegally fund the whole smorgasbord of imperialist madness. Meanwhile, Panama was being run by a thoroughly corrupt American stooge that we would soon turn on and invade ourselves. Militarism, violence, and rebellion were everywhere across the region.
Henley was one of the first artists to pick up on it in song. Good on him.

This thing was burned to a crisp on the radio---but it's not the song's fault. I was so sick of it, but after all these years, it still stands up. Too bad Henley's such an asshole.

This song and its comments made me appreciate different music more and learn to shove my opinion better next time I dislike something :)
Not a bad song, btw

Dreadful.
Ok; I’ll raise your “not bad, considering” to “I love it”! Lol
Wow! There is a lot of hate for this song here. It is horribly dated but it isn't all that bad IMHO.
I’m impressed that this site has been able to maintain its database of comments for 18 years!
ahhh, the Miami Vice era.
Wow! Not too many fans of this here. Not a typical RP song but it's nice to hear the odd "much played during the day" song. It certainly is commercial but what the hell, so was most main stream music in the 80's. The year I joined the military...for a three decade career. Maybe that's why I like this. On the air at the time.
Hey was that Bill Bruford on drums? Ha! More like Bill Casio
Interesting how ALL of the comments are from 18 years ago and all of them very negative to Henley and the Eagles.
Has it really been 18 years since this has played and commented on?

Well....I guess I did :O) ...this song rocksAll these truly insightful comments preceeding my post.... Who\'s buying Eagles and ex-Eagles product that allowed the Hell Freezes Over tour to do so well?? Please, no more, no more. :(
Please please please, never play the Eagles or Don Henley again. Can\'t even describe how tired I am of hearing this guy sing. Years of airwave abuse by local stations has brought me to the brink! One more Eagles song on Radio Paradise, and I\'ll be forced to give in and grow a mullet.
Hope this one dissappears from the playlist soon. It was pretty moronic the first time I heard it and my impression of it has gone down since.
I don\'t know why this song makes me so ill, but quite frankly, it does!!!
What the...? Why?
All I want to do is turn down the volume. No good.
