Down on the riverbed
Down on the riverbed
Down on the riverbed
I asked my lover for her hand
A red tailed hawk circled overhead
A red tailed hawk circled overhead
A red tailed hawk circled overhead
"The church on the hill" was what she said
A monster cloud like a big black hen
A monster cloud like a big black hen
A monster cloud like a big black hen
As she drew houses in the sand
I asked my lover for her hand
A red tailed hawk circled overhead
A red tailed hawk circled overhead
A red tailed hawk circled overhead
Then I heard a train whistle blow
Then I heard a train whistle blow
Then I heard a train whistle blow
And I knew it was time to go
I asked my lover for her hand
A red tailed hawk circled overhead
A red tailed hawk circled overhead
A red tailed hawk circled overhead
I asked my lover for her hand
I asked my lover for her hand
I asked my lover for her hand

Lovelovelove this. Didn't realize that was John Hiatt growling in the background. Awesome!

Thought I heard John on the background vocals.  Such a unique sounding voice.
Might not be my bag, but I can appreciate it for what it is.
These guys are capable of so much more than this.  I guess maybe they just needed some filler.

uhhhhhh!!

WHY do I ALWAYS seem to be listening when this irritant comes on?

Los Lobos was just on the Oct Blues Cruise... Gotta say they are one Bad A$$ Band, especially live!!
Never used to care for or about Los Lobos. As I get older...I realize that this is one great band!

I'd call it an adaptation.

Tasty groove.  Could use more cowbell toward the end.

Everything needs more cowbell toward the end.

Looks like this is back in a more regular rotation after years on the "shelf"..... pitty... I was hoping it would be lost again.

YUCK

ck, please leave the room now.
I generally like Los Lobos, but this isn't one of their best.
The song gets a nine.

The band gets a ten.

Dancing around the RP Studios this afternoon-?... OK, Me too...
Most eggsellently excellent
Man, I thought he was saying, "Down by the riverbed/I asked my lover for her head..." and had to check the lyrics.  I either haven't had enough coffee or have had too much.

If you listen closly you can hear John Hiatt in the background. It doesn't get any better than that. Los Lobos and John Hiatt on the same recording.

Ooh, how did I not know this? {#Music}

Los Lobos....

I'm gonna agree with both of you.  They are a bit rough around the edges live.  And they do absolutely rock.  Your socks.  Right off!

I'm gonna agree with all three.  They push the edges live.  Sometimes things work out beautifully, sometimes, well, it was a helluva effort.  But I'd rather see a band try to mix it up than a band that tries to recreate what was done in the studio note for note.  Thats why I like live music.

Beg to differ. I've seen these guys a few times and they Rock live. Much better than this overproduced studio stuff.

Correct-o-mundo!

quote Mick: "Billy's good in form tonight!"
Very nice!
Incredible band. Incredible cut. I'm a couple of hours early in this time zone (Eastern US), but Feliz Cinco de Mayo!

Yes!  You could actually sing it right over top of this.  The chord changes fit just right.

I had the sad chance of seeing them when they thought being a house band means you don't have to practice, much better in the studio

Has this song really not been played in five years? Or is this just new website craziness going on?

I once heard them do a fantastic live version of this one. Compared to that, this one is a bit dull, in spite of John Hiatt\'s backing vocal.
I go back and forth on Los Lobos but I really like this one.
