So far away, doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore?
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
Doesn't help to know you're just time away
Long ago I reached for you and there you stood
Holding you again could only do me good
How I wish I could, but you're so far away
One more song about movin' along the highway
Can't say much of anything that's new
If I could only work this life out my way
I'd rather spend it bein' close to you.
But you're so far away, doesn't anybody stay in one place any more
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
Doesn't help to know you're so far away
Travelin' around sure gets me down and lonely
Nothin' else to do but close my mind
I sure do hope the road don't come to own me
There's so many dreams
I've yet to find
But your so far away
Doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
And it doesn't help to know you're so far away...

GREAT!! ICONIC!! Brings back fond memories. Thanx RP!
this is memories of one of the very first albums I ever purchased - lovely memories of a sweeter time
Nothing less than Awesome. Takes me back to my youth that I fondly remember. Ms King knew how to do it.
Lovely song/production, I love how the small playing errors have been perfectly left.
The line "Doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore?" plays the heartstring and opens the eye faucets everytime
My first album I bought - I believe it was $5.97 .... that seemed like a lot of money back in the summer of '71
Still have it in my collection

Great song, but really tasty bass playing as well.
A very nice classic that’s always good
One of the few "perfect" albums........start to finish. The poetry, arrangements and singing...........Sheer perfection!
A rare 10, song writing, performance, and quality of recording.
One of the albums I remember being in my mother's collection when I was a very young boy. It's almost strange to hear it now almost 50 years later... damn, I've been here a while.
I wish I could say this was the first album I ever bought, but it was the second. What a great songwriter.
Great memories from this one. It's such a lovely album. It was ubiquitous in sophomore year of high school when I first met the love of my life who has been my husband for 40 years.
What an amazing song writer and when she sings for us...so lovely. I loved this album. And I love the kitty too. Just makes me feel warm all over.
Was 11 in 1971 and our 6th grade Music Teacher was hell-bent on us learning
'You've got a Friend', from this album. I still wake up in a cold sweat, screaming.
The picture below, of King and Taylor, moments ago caused me to make an
appointment with my Therapist. I can't be seen until after Christmas though.
HOLD me.
.
Nice flute "outro.".

If that did not work, you could pull out all the stops and reach for your Bread album.
There was a time if you wanted to establish yourself as a sensitive new man type of guy you could do worse that put this album on at the end of a first date.
Or so I'm told, I would never have tried to pull this kind of Shit.

A beautiful song and an outstanding album. Simple, well played arrangements and top quality tunes.
Takes me back to the 8 track tape of this in my girlfriend's '73 Cutlass. Good music outlives everything.
When the world was still half decent (except for assassinations, Vietnam and Nixon).
One more song about moving along the highway. Thanks Bill
Carol King = everything nice!!

Outstanding - saw the musical 'Beautiful' last year - really puts this song in context

Here's a playlist for Bill to play around with: play every song Carole ever wrote for MoTown artists, sung by those original artists (and the original recordings). Now THAT would be a trip.

Ah, just love Carole King. Flawless. Thanks, Bill!
Makes me think of my parents listening to this when I was a kid.
There was a brilliant little microcosm of pop songwriting around this time, Carole King, James Taylor, Elton John.I was a rocker, never listened to them, but now, forty-plus years later, there is no denying the quality of the songwriting.

songwriting....wonderful.
her voice is so real & "unslick" which is why i like it. seems more honest than lots of what i hear from newer female artists.

Oh no, this ear worm will be drilling through my brain for days.
Timeless song...timeless album.
For a demo song-writer singer, she has done pretty well for herself, sold a few records etc.

Agree! A lot of that dated songs had not a good arrangement!
Great song, but instrumentally its sounds a bit weak or dated to me.

Stop and listen to it again, like it's not elevator music.
What brilliance.
What brilliance.
This, and "It's Too Late", are instant flashbacks to swimming lessons in the summer from 44 YEARS AGO!
Really the last time this was played or at least commented on was 2009.
I haven't heard this song in a long time. I'm reminded how powerfully it has always affected me. Wow.

Carole King and James Taylor are doing their Troubador Tour and they made a stop in Manhattan for all to see. They were absolutely terrific. She's 68, can you believe it? He's 62.

I'm surprised no one has rated this a 4. Not that it is to me, but that's a strange emptiness there in the bar graph.
Just luck of the draw - there are just over ten dozen votes in all and less than two dozen votes in the bottom seven buckets, so it's sparse.
Summer camp. So much ahead of me. So many dreams. So much I did not know. So much I wish I did not know now. Very, very nice trip back in time........

I absolutley love this album. Carole King is a gifted songwriter, although I have got to say I have always found her voice very nasal.
Great song, but instrumentally its sounds a bit weak or dated to me.
simply yummy...thanks RP

I was wondering when you were going to get around to this timeless classic of an album! Defines every hippie girl back in the day.
What a great song!
I haven't listened to this in ages.

That's because it last played 5 years ago. Far too long, in my book, for such a classic 10. Lyrics we all can identify with, a distinctive and empassioned voice, and some fine musicians behind. Wonderful. Making me pine for all those kinds folks and family around the world...

Great song from a classic album. Reminds me of a certain girl from a certain time.

I think its the first time I have heard it thnaks Bill....I STILL listen to this album.....almost every week...what a gem
Yes. Really nice to hear this one again. Tapestry was /is such a great album.
I guess it's been awhile since you've played this. It's been awhile since I've heard it. Wow it brings back a flood of memories and feelings. What a surprise.
The whole album is like the air we breathe. As if it's always been there, in its perfection.
Songwriting doesn't get much better.
NOt too shabby performance, either.
One of my favorites. I didn't even remember it being here in the RP library.
Thanks for playing it, Bill. It strikes a chord with me these days.
you could play this entire album as far as i'm concerned. what fantastic memories.
It is amazing to read the comments on this song. I guess the true greatness of an artist is the ability to evoke emotion, especially after all this time.
I am afraid we will not know many more great ones like this one.
Wow, great one Bill! What a nice surprise.
Reminds me of my Mom. This was her favorite album when I was little. I love this song. It still makes me sad/happy.
:D
NOW I know the name.. Carole King\'s daughter.. Louise Goffin ... just came out with an album.. and the name Carole King was there.. I couldn\'t place ti.. but hearing this.. the first person\'s name on my mind was just that CK... and sure enough..
Memory\'s nothin\'.... but the feelin\'s great!

Or, you could say its a timeless classic that has its roots burried in the mindset that we all forget our connection to each other and the things, people, and times around us..
:D
Or that its a classic for any time period, period. :D
Well.. back to listening before 6am comes.. :(
(remember this day folks, internet radio to go silent in protest of CARP!)

It\'s probably a generational thing, but I\'ve never liked Carole King.
Look up the word \"classic\" in the dictionary. This song will be the definition. I will NEVER tire of this song, and I first heard it about 34 years ago.
A truly wonderful album too.
