Sorry, curator.. But a venue where you used to hang out.. Not a venue you use to hang out AT.  Haha.  Sorry for being a grammar Nazi.  No not really sorry.

You didn't need the "at" part.

Jack Casady, ladies and gentlemen, Jack Casady
Was gonna give it a 6, then the bass solo came along, bumped it to a 7.
Outstanding. Get's me humming and tapping them toes every time! Thanks!
Got to see Jorma for the 67th time last Saturday evening at the Rams Head in Annapolis. Always a pleasure. Thanks RP!

I told Jorma I read his book. He said it has a happy ending, and it is a good thing.
It was recently noted that Hot Tuna will stop the electric shows at the end of 2023.
my hometown and longtime friend, justin guip, plays drums with Hot Tuna. he's amazing.

Can we hear Van Halen's Ice Cream Man after this?
Long time, thought the line was:
Run to the corner get my babies in bed.
Personally, I'm down for a tuna melt, but hot tuna isn't really my bag...
Mahalo.
CLASSIC!!! ICONIC!!!
So many memories of the Chateau Liberte, their early light shows,  the Dobbies  before they were famous, Tuna, bell bottoms, joints and negotiating mountain roads afterwards.
Ahhhh,
Papa John for the win

you're asking about Lazarus...and HE is a great RP regular, with an odd rating philosophy (if he likes it he rates '10', if not, he rates '1') - and good question; where are you Lazarus?  I hope he's OK.

I recently started listening to RP on a daily basis after about a 7 year hiatus.  My last job was too busy and I didn't have time to listen to music with my headphones, one of the reasons I quit that job (the other being that it really sucked, was way too stressful as I was working on creating medical insurance products that met the ACA (aka Obamacare) requirements) and boy am I glad to be back!

I missed hearing from several RPosters, including my local friend 'HippyChick' and many others, including our dearly departed.  And now I'm worried about Lazarus.

Looks like the last post from Lazarus was about three years ago. Hope he is ok and only listening to classical music.

Back in college a guy I knew hated tuna, but his mom sent him cans every week in care packages. So he'd end up with all this tuna and he didn't want it. So he had a yearly tuna party with all sorts of events like tuna eating, tuna can bowling, tuna juice drinking (hey, it was college). It made for an interesting party and everyone got a can of tuna as a parting gift.

Clearly a fishy tail.
now why cant more bands sound like this

A bass guitar solo! You don't hear many of those, I like it

Have all the Tuna records Used to love em live with Papa John
Great bass solo! Why haven't I heard it before?
Juicy... Hot Tuna... Yum!

This doesn't sound anything like Sammy Davis, Jr.

It doesn't sound like the music to a horror movie either.

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/candyman/

Researching urban folklore, a University of Chicago student snoops around the housing projects of Cabrini Green to find more about the legend of the Candyman who supposedly appears (whenever one looks into the mirror and repeats his name five times) to slash his victims with a metal hook. Only after she witnesses the atrocities herself, does she believe he exists. To her horror, he wants her to join him in his afterlife dimension. This unsettling feature is based on a short story by Clive Barker.
I remember early '90s show with michelle shocked/bruce cockburn/hot tuna/bob wier & wasserman scaring the children, detroit not even sold out at small outdoor theater.....!
I search in vain for Dave Van Ronk.

Jack still delivers solos just like that today. Man oh man what fun.

Very creative.   I fondly remember tuna parties in college, but mine were nothing like this.{#Boohoo}{#Devil_pimp} {#Bananajam}

I've taken in 56 Jorma / Hot Tuna concerts over the years coast to coast from the legendary five hour shows up 'til now. Can't wait until the next one.

Reminds me of New Paltz in the early 70s for some reason. What a scene up there back then

That ain't a recipe, that's a lack of imagination. I'm guessing the wife put an end to that "food" out of love or a sense of self-preservation.

sinister, but funny : )
woo-hoooo!
This song was a total wash......until the bass solo - very nice.  That still doesn't make it good overall! I really don't EVER need to hear this song again.
nice bass solo! {#Bananajam}
Just not enuf bass solos in music these days !
Ok but now you gotta at least make 3 candy references in a row... c'mon... you can do it !
(last tune was Chocolate Jesus)

Good to hear this song again, it's been a while since I heard it.

I think that album cover might help, inasmuch as any album cover can.  It's most unpleasant.

Well, then give your ears.......... Because you obviously can't hear how terrible he sounds right here. He doesn't usually sound that bad, but on candy man........... {#Rolleyes}

Got Jack?
Got Jorma?
I had forgotten how good these guys were.

Chocolate Jesus into Candy man.

Its a cliche segue, but that okay.

wow...just coming back on RP, caught this, amazing -
Good thing CD's came out, 'cos I wiped out at least 3 vinyl copies of this album.
And it was always played LOUD.

I watched Pappa John do his stuff in Washington DC around 1967 .. amazing to say the least. RIP Pappa John Creech!
Wow, Hot Tuna! That brought back memories. Used to be a D.J. and played this music out of a college radio station in the 70's. Yeah you whipper snappers we had music back then ;)
Violinist Papa John Creach first came to the notice of rock fans when he joined Jefferson Airplane and its spin-off group, Hot Tuna, in 1970. By that time, he was already in his early fifties, a veteran of jazz and blues associations, while his fellow bandmembers were still approaching 30. Nevertheless, using an electrified violin, Creach added a new psychedelic edge to the Airplane in its final days. The band split in 1972, by which time Creach had begun to release solo albums on its custom label, Grunt. The Airplane was reorganized and relaunched as Jefferson Starship, and Creach was with it through its million-selling Red Octopus album in 1975. He continued to make solo albums through 1992, when he released Papa Blues. Papa John Creach died of heart failure in 1994 at the age of 76. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide

Does anybody know...if that's Papa John Creach on the fiddle?
Jorma is a disciple of Reverend Gary Davis. Back in the day I spent hundreds and hundreds of hours learning to fingerpick listening to this album and the first Hot Tuna album. I learned to soldier through most of them but, unfortunately, lacked the talent to give them the feeling of Jorma and Jack. Or, for the matter of that, Reverend Davis. Btw, my favorite tune from this album is "Been So Long."
Why'd it take so long to dust off this gem? Where has the Candy Man gone?
I guess you didn't like it Shesdifferent wrote:

Hot dog!! It\'s Hot Tuna. Gotta love it.
Excellent! \" Peidmont\" style flatpickin\'. Excellent!!
An absolute gem. For anyone who gives a hoot about real picking and American musical tradition, this old warhorse is it. Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casaday played against each other like they were cosmically linked. Jorma\'s playing and singing (and teaching workshops) continue to seed this legacy. Wish I\'se down in New Orleans, just sittin on a candy stand. :D
