Comes a rainstorm, put your rubbers on your feet
Comes a snow-storm, you can get a little heat
Comes love, nothing can be done

Comes a fire, then you know just what to do
Blow a tire, you can buy another sure
Comes love, nothing can be done

Don't try hiding 'cause there isn't any use
You start sliding when your heart turns on the juice

Comes a headache, you can lose it in a day
Comes a toothache, see your dentist right away
Comes love, nothing can be done

Comes a heat-wave, you can hurry to the shore
Comes the summer, you can hide behind the door
Comes love, nothing can be done

Comes the measles, you can quarantine the room
Comes a mousy, you can chase it with the broom
Comes love, nothing can be done

That's all brother, if you've ever been in love
That's all brother, you know what I'm speaking of

Comes a nightmare, you can always stay awake
Comes depression, you may get another break
Comes love, nothing can be done

She passed away on November 22, 2024 from a brain aneurysm. Born in 1961 so only 63 years old. Sad to lose such a heartfelt smooth singer at such an early age.
Reminds me of Melody Gardot (that's a good thing).
The singing is freakin' awesome, to be sure, but whoah, the backing musicians are at the top of their game on THIS swinging tune! The atmosphere is so powerful! It feels like I'm in a delightfully blue and moody dive bar!

I would like to hear that
I always hear the line "Blow a tire, you can buy another sure" as
Blow a tire, you can buy another shoe.  It's cute! I tell people that I gotta get new shoes for my truck.
Very cool song btw.

in that case, next round's on me Maddie !

prefer this version
I like the guitar work here but this just makes me long for the Artie Shaw/Helen Forrest version

Thanks for sharing!! Very kind of you. And, a really good tune, too!! ✌️
This song was in very heavy rotation on KPIG when they were going through their royalty issues. Brings back good memories.
The Hot Sardines do a version in French that's a killer.
Fine, fine, fine...
Thanks rhlrstn for the lyrics. Much appreciated!
This what Madeleine Peryoux would sound like if she was sober. Love the sweetness, sadness, and calm all rolled into one. Thanks RP!
If you like big band jazz you may enjoy Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band Featuring Take 6 singing an upbeat version of Comes Love. First version I ever heard!

Wondering if she still does Friday happy hippie hour at the Continental Club?  Sitting on a stool, as so many Austin musicians did - or still do.
{#Wave} ..... is liking this tune 7 >>>> 8
i'm missing jamie cullums massive version of this on RP...

Yeah, I'm with you here. Joni takes some flack but she done good and Ella is always great, this one sounded a bit flat to me. Nice but not great...maybe a bit too fast for her voice, IDK, something. Good tune though...quite likable.
oooooh. Guitar. That's what I'm talkin' about.

hip hip hooray for the austin icon!
It is great to hear Toni Price here. We've enjoyed listening to her for years.

Another torchy kind of singer in our area is MaryAnn Price. I have no idea if they're related. MAP was one of Dan Hicks' original 'Lickettes'.
Would rather you play Joni Mitchell's version of this great classic! :)

That is embarrassing. Amazing song. Toni Price did an adequate job with it.

You can find it on her album "Both sides now" most excellent

I'm not missing White and Negro bathrooms, mob controlled gaming, the tyranny of the office or inferior sound equipment. Today is the best of times. Luxury and sophistication exist at levels unknown to the past - mutually exclusive or as complimentary components. Your options are legion.

Both Sides Now.  Joni's version has a wonderful earthy feel to it.  I also like Ella's version better than this one.  It's leaving me a little cold.

I like it.  Has a nice jazzy, bluesy sound.

Oh, man.  I'm gonna find my way down there when she's playing sometime.  This is good stuff.

Oh, and by the way... she said "put your rubbers on".  Huhuhuhuhuhuhuhuh.  </juvenile moron>

fiddle go love it.

It's the "vinyl" effect...

Haven't been here for a while, this is the first song I've heard on RP after some time.
Just saw new site look, it's nice.

very easy to be very productive with this music, gets the brain juices goin in the right direction. Love it.
This song is the reason why RP is so great. It is the reason why my speakers are cranked all day, every day. Except for when an annoying client walks in. (Damn them! :-) Toni Price is yet another great artist who's music I would NEVER otherwise get to hear and enjoy, were it not for this great station. Bill for President!

Homegirl Toni tackles a venerable jazz standard, wrestles it to the floor, and plants a big sloppy whiskey kiss full on its lips. Sweetness.

Anonymous posting often brings out the hateful side in people. Not me, I will anonymously state that Toni Price is among the best contemporary female vocalists living today. Her music is outstanding on recordings and even better live. I've seen her drunk, but guess what? I've seen Emmy Lou drunk too, and so was I on both occasions. That's what bars are for. I've also witnessed amazingly professional behavior from both of them. You have to take things in context. Put the petty jealousy aside and take my word for it, Toni is #1 in my book and I miss her. I hope she moves back home to Austin someday.

Well, I used to go see her all the time with my friends. The last time I went, though, she was so drunk she couldn't hold a tune, and sat down the entire time. It was really, really bad. She won't be a "darling" for much longer if she keeps that up. I left at the break, and haven't been back.
Should have ventured out back where the ongoing 420 party filled the street and the air. Police drive by just to see the happy faces and wave. You're right about her being snookered and sitting. Tough to see her in such a small venue.

Sadly, she's moving to California, so Hippie Hour is evolving. But the replacement band (tentatively named Sniz-O-Rama) includes Scrappy Jud Newcomb, among other good folks.

I agree whole heartedly
I'm not all that impressed with this version. It seems derivative of Billie Holiday's version which is, in and of itself, much better than this version. Toni's voice is very thin, brittle and a little painful to listen to. And Toni's performance doesn't hold a candle to Eva Cassidy who followed her in the mix. I don't know anything else that Toni has done, but I'm not a fan of this one.
Ummmmm... love's a disease? Reframe that kinda thinking.
nice Kenny Burrell-esque guitar in there too

cute. can't help but wish she had a stronger voice for it though. or maybe it just needs to be mixed differently.
Never heard of her before. Nice song. An 8.
Why is Diana Krall everywhere? --> give me Toni Price any day.
Look's like Austin's favorite Hippy Hour has made it to Paradise. Now to hear some Toni Price blues..?
Soothing fresh class. I like this. Faintly reminds me of Dani Klein from the Belgian band Vaya Con Dios

She's very cool - plays a free happy hour set every Tuesday at the Continental Club here in Austin - and you can bet it's SRO...
I'm easy prey for jazzy sirens and their accompanyment. Nice violin, too.
Been listening to RP for over a year and this is the first time I heard Bill play a Toni Price song. I have a couple of her CDs and for the most part, they are very good. I especially like the songs similar to this one. Thanks Bill.

Once again I am reminded how a song can transport one to their "Happy Place". Just got word of additional cutbacks here at work and was stewing in "What now?" paranoia. From the first notes, I was transported tp the motorcycle trip I was on passing thru Austin where I was turned on to Toni. It may not change the present condition, but good music can always soften the edges. Toni has the power and the staying power. Play on...

Lovely voice. Reminded me of Peggy Lee...
If it's out of Austin,it has to be good!!!!
very nice! sometimes a little different spice is all the recipe needs!
That was just awesome, a touch of class to start the day with!

Ahh, the next Peggy Lee.
Love this girl. First saw her on Austin City Limits and went straight out to buy some product only to find that my local cd shop, which has everything, did not have her. Cost a small fortune to buy imports.
I agree. This one is kind of flat. But, not a bad diversion.
