How can you be so warm?
How can you know what I feel?
Well, it's the way you move your hands,
and it's the way you understand.

And that's the reason that I'm asking.
That's the reason that I want to know.
And that's the reason that I'm asking,
and that's the reason that I'm...

How can you throw everything you live for?
Well, it's the way we shake and sway.
Oh, and it's the passion that you play.

And that's the reason that I'm asking.
That's the reason that I want to know.
And that's the reason that I'm asking,
and that's the reason that I'm...

Too many lost.
Links in a chain passed down through the years,
But ending here, if we just face the pain and the fear.

Who did you love before?
Who did they love before you?
But it's the way you move your hands
And it's the way you understand.

And that's the reason that I'm asking.
That's the reason that I want to know.
And that's the reason that I'm asking,
and that's the reason that I'm...

"deluxe is a great cd, and this is a fabulous song. on a whim i went to see them live back in 1997 (anne preven's band Ednaswap opened for them) and was blown away. they have great energy, great presence, and play really well. it was soo cool to see the lead singer of a band smile when he sings...refreshing. at the end, they did a bunch of obscure covers that was truly unexpected. i'd recommend both getting this cd, the one after it, and seeing them live. i know i liked them a lot better after i saw them in person."

Whoa, haven't heard this in a hot lifetime.
Thanks RP and blessed be all
Not bad, but I'd like to listen to Ezra to judge for myself :o)

Living in the Great White North I've missed a lot of stuff like this, which sounds like it would fit nicely between Gin Blossoms and Three Doors Down on an American modern rock mix tape. For what it's worth, I like it --- it's out of the box, and better yet, it's not Radiohead or Cake!

Don't know where you live in Canada, but here in Ontario we heard a lot of this band in the 90's.
My guilty pleasure band, this whole album is great. My girlfriend way back then gave me this album and I loved it, still do. And the Hootie and the Blowfish album too, why not?
It was always Better Than Ezra.

Soooo love this band. For all of the emotion and memories it brings back. Screw the nay Sayers.
you should listen to early rush then...
Reminds me of Rush, and not in a good way....

No my friend, it's completely "in the box" and typical of the standard radio rock of the times - fits well with the two you mentioned.

You want "out of the box" then we want to hear Radiohead and Cake.

In the RP context, Radiohead is the box —- far and away the most played artist here.

Better Than Ezra?  Once a month.

Who are "we", by the way?  Still suffering from delusions of grandeur?

Don't listen to much guitar based music eh??

love this band, but I cannot get that joke out of my head from all those years ago. {#Beat}

Nice transition from Calexico

Same today. Indeed nice transition
When they were good they were great, and when they were bad they sucked big time... fortunatley this was one of the times they were good...
Nice transition from Calexico
Man, this just brought it back... Great song!

Good times, good times . . .  {#Yes}

Seen them several times because my wife loves them. They can be a lot of fun in concert, but seemed a bit burnt out the last two times...
This indeed sounds like a great live band. But even in this studio recording there is a lot of energy. Kevin's voice sound a bit like 10'000 maniacs Terry.

gosh, these guys were so great live...saw them about 4 times, i think, in the late 90's. lots of fun. i have fond memories of this whole album. don't care if it's dated, or not considered "great music". i like it a lot, still.

{#Yes} I LOVED them. And their music always brings back awesome "90s" memories...*sigh*

This strikes me as mechanical and antiseptic. With the idea behind these lyrics, the song should be infused with emotion. And it isn't.
What happened to this band? I always liked their work.

The video for this song was about a young deaf boy, and I think that's at least partly what the song is about. In the blood might mean that ways of communicating are passed down from our ancestors. "It's the way you move your hands...and it's the way you understand."
Good explanation, bobby. I think you're on to something.

I take "In the blood" to mean passion, like bound by blood. Maybe the hero is suspect of a woman's past but he likes her.

Is it possible for him to sing even more through his nose?
This song is unusually crappy. Blech.
music from the 80's?
Still having audio issues I'm getting repeating segments, like a badly implemented echo.

Hell YEAH! Great song, good lyrics.
Ezra must be really terrible.
...i don't like ezra as much as these guys...

Yeah, that's true, but its nice to hear these songs once in a while . . . and that's what Bill does. Nice to hear this once every few months (as opposed to radio which plays us into submission with their regularity).
Couldn't agree more. A steady diet of this stuff? No. But once in a while, in the middle of the day, it's nice to get one of those, "ah, I remember what I was doing when this song was out" moments.

Recorded a cover of this acoustically with a friend and he was so impressed he said it sounded "better than better than ezra." We both busted out laughing. Not sure it actually did but we laugh everytime we hear this song. Saw Kevin and crew live in Denver. Very good show. He's writing songs for like Jessica Simpson now. All their albums have something good on them.
These guys will be in Chi at the Sheffield Garden Walk this weekend, Saturday night.

This is such a fine album, their other releases, while good, for me have never measured up to this debut effort. But I like this one so much I continue to pick up the later stuff in hope that something will equal this first disc.
How Does Your Garden Grow has some great stuff, but I consider them part of that downward trend where promising artists of the mid to late 90's were producing crap by the 00's... BTE, Third Eye Blind, Liz Phair...
I love this band, I love this album!

I agree. Saw them in a small local bar many years ago. The music was excellent and they really knew how to get the crowd involved.

Ah, man, this one takes me back... Great choice!
Loved BTE since 95! The seventh grade! This song is from that first CD I ever got of theirs and I still listen to it and love it :) Sigh.
Great underated band! Check out the CD "Closer" one of the best IMO.

Takes me back to when things were good with an old girlfriend of mine...nice little bit of nostalgia there.
Love my BTE!
Caught them at the Belly Up this summer for what, $10? Great energy & chemistry w/ the audience. You forget just how good a band is, then you see them with <600 people in a bar. I still have their CDs in the car, cranked way up.
Wow, great song from what I thought was a long lost band. Awesome!
I'd almost forgotton about BTE, despite the fact that all of their CD's are here. Thanks for jogging my memory. One of my favorite selections as well.
A very underrated band with some really great stuff. All releases have something worth listening to. :)
YAY!! My favorite BTE song! These guys just do not get enough play ANYWHERE. Was able to catch them at a little bar in Snottsdale--it was amazing--every time I've seen them they ROCK!!
blah! x 2

Great band, not just the mainstream stuff. Check them out in person. :D
Yes!! One of the most entertaining/personable live bands ever. My favorite part was when they played familiar opening drum licks, and made the audience guess what song it was (i.e. Sunday Bloody Sunday)!
more ezra! more ezra! :)
blah!
haven't heard these guys since high school. ahhh memories...
I\'ve never heard this song before. I like it. :)
