She calls me from the cold
Just when I was low
Feeling short of stable
All that she intends
And all she keeps inside
Isn't on the label
She says she's ashamed
Can she take me for a while?
Can I be a friend?
We'll forget the past
Or maybe I'm not able
And I break at the bend
We're here and now
Will we ever be again?
'Cause I have found
All that shimmers in this world is sure to fade
Away again
She dreams a champagne dream
Strawberry surprise
Pink linen on white paper
Lavender and cream
Fields of butterflies
Reality escapes her
She says that love
Is for fools that fall behind
And I'm somewhere between
I never really know
A killer from a savior
'Til I break at the bend
We're here and now
Will we ever be again?
'Cause I have found
All that shimmers in this world is sure to fade
Away again
It's too far away for me to hold
Too far away
It's too far away for me to hold
Too far away
Ah-ow
Yeah, it's too far away for me to hold
Too far away, ah-ow
It's too far away for me to hold
Too far away
It's too far away for me to hold
Too far away, ah-ow
It's too far away for me to hold
Too far away
Guess I'll let it go
Just when I was low
Feeling short of stable
All that she intends
And all she keeps inside
Isn't on the label

Funny, but I don't remember this from 1998.
Must have already disengaged from broadcast radio music by then.
It is from pre Radio Paradise - a little bit.
Anyhow, I get to hear it every so often.
Given this a 7 rating, enough to be on my favorite list.
Was a 10 year gap in air play enough?

Totally taken aback by the inclusion of this in the playlist (in a good way, I think). This song was very important to me when I was a moody 16-year old.
Yes! Brings me right back as well.
Great song - takes me right back to '98.
Lavender and Cream, Kick it.....
Diggin' it again.
One of the great Alt-Rock hits of 1998...
...Outstanding..."9".......thanks RP...

Love this song. It's a great tune.
Gallagher's long lost brother
Trying really hard to sound like Dinosaur Jr. And failing miserably.

This is the guilty pleasure of mine,,,,,,,,scream singing this in my car............
Annoyingly simplistic and simplistically good!! Love the key change/break.

Yeah! Awesome song. It's been forever since I've heard it. Can't believe I haven't heard it here before. Also a bit surprised at all the hate, but hey, diversity in opinion is what RP is about.

I hope I catch it again in 2024!

i guess we're not far enough away from this one yet...
how does the sentencing equation go -- 1 year manditory for each time a song recurred in any single "ROCK BLOCK!" during their heaviest rotation...? that would put this back into style sometime mid-century, i guess.
that said, i'd rather hear this song than many of its Clear Channel siblings.

something about it reminds me of the GOO GOO DOLLS song FLATTOP...i dunno. i like it, though!
it's definitely pop-fluff, just somewhat decent pop-fluff... errr, at least maybe "inoffensive" if you havent already heard it several thousand times on fm.
though it reminds me more of Better Than Ezra.

I third it! Ugh.
I miss this song.

I second that.
Someone rated this a 10? Wow?!?!?! Why bother listening to RP if you think this is "GOD-LIKE" you could just go to the Windows Media player and hear basically the same song all day on the "Alternative" station.

I really like this lead singer. He gets so into it when he's singing. Pretty sexy...
I know this is an old post, but let me just say this dude is so not sexy. He looks like a camel and spits a lot on stage. Nasty.
I nominate this for best unconscious pop-rock adaptation of a Robert Frost poem.

I can\'t believe I\'m hearing this crap.
I hate this song, it emblemizes the kind of stuff that stopped me from listening to radio.
One of the CD\'s I sold as I matured and started liking real music...why is it here?
Admittedly this is power-pop-alternative, but it\'s just done so well. I bought this album for \'Bittersweet\' before I knew that \'Shimmer\' was also done by Fuel. It was just one of those moments you had to be there, sorta like buying a box of cereal and ending up with gold nuggets instead of Cheerios, or better yet, enough Cheerios to fill up a bowl, so you won\'t go hungry while celebrating.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Agreed, this one has really grown on me.
Really enjoy this track but after buying this CD, was a bit disappointed. Prefer 'Something Like Human'.
fuel is a terrible band, i do not like them at all.....but I cannot deny the fact that this is an excellent track. The one Fuel song i like.
Play other Fuel. This is a great song, but as I recall, the rest of this album was pretty good....and it\'d be nice to hear some from the new one as well.
love this song. don't care about how much it was played on the radio.
You can have my share...
