How 'bout getting off of these antibiotics
How 'bout stopping eating when I'm full up
How 'bout them transparent dangling carrots
How 'bout that ever elusive kudo

Thank you, India
Thank you, terror
Thank you, disillusionment
Thank you, frailty
Thank you, consequence
Thank you, thank you, silence

How 'bout me not blaming you for everything
How 'bout me enjoying the moment for once
How 'bout how good it feels to finally forgive you
How 'bout grieving it all one at a time

Thank you, India
Thank you, terror
Thank you, disillusionment
Thank you, frailty
Thank you, consequence
Thank you, thank you, silence

The moment I let go of it was
The moment I got more than I could handle
The moment I jumped off of it was
The moment I touched down

How 'bout no longer being masochistic
How 'bout remembering your divinity
How 'bout unabashedly bawling your eyes out
How 'bout not equating death with stopping

Thank you, India
Thank you, Providence
Thank you, disillusionment
Thank you, nothingness
Thank you, clarity
Thank you, thank you, silence

My wife & I always thought it said, " How 'bout unabashedly balling your eyes out."
Shows you where our minds are at.
This song brings out fond memories of snowy Montreal and the love that was there❤️

Ahhh... I really love this song. Brings back great memories of a certain time in my life. And I think it's really well-written and performed; Alanis shows more restraint in this than many of her others songs from this era. {#Music} {#Good-vibes}

(Followed by Tori Amos, "Thank You"... I see wut u did there, Bill. {#Cheesygrin} Bring on my 90s female singer-songwriter heroines!)

They went out together for the 'junkie' tour in 99.  Saw them here at Blossom in Cuyahoga Falls.  Tori opened and Alanis was the closer.  Tori was good but Alanis was awesome and was very much into Zep.  Their influence was everywhere.  Alanis is great live and I highly recommend seeing her, anywhere possible.  Liked the show so much I actually bought a T shirt !
I know lots of people hate Tori Amos.  I understand why one may feel that way... but I still love Tori... most of the time.
I know lots of people hate Natalie Merchant.  And I understand that, too.  But I still love Natalie... most of the time.

This, however, is truly horrible.  After many years of hearing various Alanis songs, I can safely say I can't stand her voice.. all of the time.

Just to say - Tori didn't write "Thank You". It was on Zeppelin II - Led Zeppelin,

No, thank u.
Good song, but so overplayed in mainstream channels, I just can't hear it anymore. PSD.
Some serious bass on this song.
Thundering....

Blackfield do a great version of this song on their "Live In New York" dvd/cd.

Ms. Morissette is right: We should thank the letter U. Like her, I appreciate the way it aways has the letter Q's back and the way it doubles up when it comes to cleaning the floor.

U is so much better than that silent e. All that does is sit there and smile. It never even makes a sound.

Yes, nothing compares, nothing compares to U.
{#Grumpy}
A perfect example of just how bad music was in the 90's. Horrible.

Listened to WNCW often while driving to visit my son and his wife.  I could pick it up for about 3/4 of the drive between ATL and CLT.  And "Thank U" can easily be described as a recent release -- when compared to Buddy Holly, Mozart or early Stones.
Yup !!!

Thank you RP.  First time I really LISTENED to these lyrics. {#Angel}
no, no, no, bill - please - just say no.....   {#Stop}
Saw her on Paladia a few years back. Quite the stage presence and very open with her audience. Great voice when used properly. And that's the problem, she sometimes goes over the top.

This song came along to me at a very raw, open and grateful time in my life and brought me to tears. Not an Alanis fan per se, but this song alone (well, in addition to its amazing video) makes me love her and if I saw her I'd just give her a big hug and thank her 4 it!
It's a few years old now, but this piece is a hilarious and devastating takedown of the prolix little pill's crimes against songwriting.

Well at least it's not ironically a song that isn't about irony called "isn't it ironic".
What's with all the A Morissette lately? Cannot stand this woman.
God I hate this woman's nasal annoying posing voice. And her absolute wreckage of Cole Porter's "Let's Do It" in "De-Lovely" was an unforgivable crime against music.
nice music set of female voices - thanks RP
I like this.  It broke at a time when I was intently listening to every lyric on every song on everything I heard, and it monotoned/iterated my feelings beautifully.

Guess you had to be there.
Normally I'm unhappy when there are problems with the stream ...
Please stop it—-I come here for sanctuary from crap like this.
8 for the wisdom of the lyrics!
I'm pretty sure that this is the worst Alanis Morissette song in existence, and that's saying something.
Owwww! Make it stop!

I was always lead to believe she palyed all the instrumental backing herself!
No, thank YOU.

..also, she has great teeth..+1 (to a 6)..
In itself i don't think i really like it (not sure though {#Think} ), but it has such a distinctive sound and ring to it which immediately brings me back to a time things were so uncomplicated and nice. For that, i love hearing it...

I agree with the general sentiment, but marginal is probably not a fair word here. It may be more a case of lacking the self-knowledge to understand when the impulse to perform/compose something should be suppressed. And, there must be an army of enablers.

I think she's more than "marginally talented", but I don't personally care for most of her material.  This song's not bad...once in a while.

I very important song to me from a specific period of my life.

Besides, she's God, so it must be a 10 (godlike), right?
Time to paint the front porch!
Boy.... I was gonna say that there's a lot better Jonatha Brooke selections from which to pick......
so totally yes

If she had sung this in French, I think the effect would be better, 'cause I would not understand her.  These lyrics are just terrible.  The song overall is not bad though.  8.

Thank you for playing this.  A 10.

She is an original.  Got to see this tour.  Simply loved the show.  Tory Amos opened.

Alanis is an earthy hippie chick, an old soul.
she makes a big effort.. give her points for trying.

She's clearly talented, but once you hear that gimmick (present in every Alanis song), you cannot unhear it.

I've come to realise that for every talent one person sees, another sees a flaw...Enunciation is often, actually, very often, thought of as a good thing. Guess in your world it's not, so, I can see it would be problematic for you. I like to heare the words....I like the words as much as the tunes...

Clear articulation is not a flaw, but a rare gift!
I like her voice.  She doesn't have the voice of an angel, or anything, but its quirkiness is what makes it appealing.  The non-perfection is really a part of the un-Diva movement of the 90s fem-folk scene.  The idea that female artists don't have to be bombshells or have the vocal chords of a god to be allowed to perform.

Yes, but if you write a good, quality song and then have your cat try to sing it, odds are most people will call that song horrible. The cat would be a great singer if you'd stop being such a cheapskate and pay for some lessons.

(A cat's reach should exceed it

Quite a set of chompers

Alanis must be glad she got braces when she was a teenager...
How bout stopping this song....
Wow!

it's early here and this is too perfect{#Clap}

A lot of Alanis haters out there. But she's a pretty amazing lyricist. Someone previously stated how she completely went off the charts with that debut album with her new persona. Imagine the stardom. Smart to disappear for a awhile. I actually like her follow-up to that monster album. So the rest of you can go piss off. I say that respectfully, of course. Not like how SHE would talk.

I love her and all but in terms of lyrical mistakes lets examine the song ironic - now lets face it she could really have done with looking up the meaning of irony before that one.  That said I'd forgive her anything for the song Your House which is such a beautiful dark story it can't help but tug at the heart strings (if you have any).

Thank You Can't Do That On Television?

Love her character on "Weeds."  Her vocals are not too pretty bad, eh?

I'm not very fond of too many songs by Miss Morissette, but this song is beautiful. Her year or two off after blowing up to super-stardom created at least one classic pop song. Yes – thank you India. 9+

Didn't realize how much I missed this song.

Funny comment, but what makes something a 'bad annoying' voice? Do you not mean that the voice annoys you personally?

Sorry to be pedantic, but along with Alanis'voice, I also hate Joni Mitchell's, Natalie Merchant's, Bjork's, and especially Ray Lamontaigne's voice... And everyone disagrees with me. So I see that as my own problem.

Nyah. I'll shut up now.
This is a FANTASTIC album, far superior to her first (and anything that folowed), to my opinion anyway.
Proving Alanis was a NOT 1 hit ablum wonder -
Wow, this is a first! Good Choice.
...nice...

Yes, and an awful sense of hearing is still an awful sense of hearing.

Thanks for this beautiful song regarding self forgiveness and acceptance.  Humility is a gift!  The wold & individuals would be wise to learn from some of these words.
