How does it feel
To treat me like you do
When you've laid your hands upon me
And told me who you are?
I thought I was mistaken
I thought I heard your words
Tell me, how do I feel?
Tell me now, how do I feel?

Those who came before me
Lived through their vocations
From the past until completion
They'll turn away no more
And I still find it so hard
To say what I need to say
But I'm quite sure that you'll tell me
Just how I should feel today

I see a ship in the harbour
I can and shall obey
But if it wasn't for your misfortune
I'd be a heavenly person today
And I thought I was mistaken
And I thought I heard you speak
Tell me, how do I feel?
Tell me now, how should I feel?

Now, I stand here waiting

I thought I told you to leave me
While I walked down to the beach
Tell me, how does it feel
When your heart grows cold?

If there was a competition, on the planet Miserable, to find the most miserable place anywhere in the universe, this song would still be a monumental work there.

Joy Diviosn ..... what could have been ..... if only .....
Masterpiece no doubt.  Most don't appreciate the influence these guys had over so many bands.  They need to stop thinking  like the previous comment labelling it as robot music.

I  Agree!   Are you from NJ?  LOL!
A great track but done to death here in Manch.

Devilish.

And?
It's so good.  It's so not good.  It's dated and cliched.  It's great classic dance music.  It sounds like it came from the time of Risky Business, Miami Vice and Studio 54.  It did.  Good rhythm track.  I doubt I want to hear it very often.

I Agree. 5:30am here, & my coffee is just starting to kick in!  Thanx RP!

How is this only a 7.6? Solid 9 borderline 10 from me.

Maybe.  And?
I listened to this song on a Monday where I was blue and it made the Monday glow.
Robot music.

It certainly hid their laughter at feeble chat-up attempts!

I kissed you in the water
And made your dry lips sing
I saw you look like a Japanese baby
In an instant I remembered everything
Everything, everything, everything

Ladies and gentlemen....Join me in welcoming back................DISCO!

de gustibus non disputandum, but I'll skip this one (no rating)!

Yeah, I remember being in Prague and this song came on. All it takes is a slightly more modern kick and some bass and this thing kills in modern electro discos, too.
I've loved RP for years but this crap is beneath you.
'80s perfection.

The 12" single, so yes.

Some of us have a quarter of a century head start...

Sorry you missed it, friend.
So much love for this. Makes me think a lot of you liked the 1980s.
This song helped form my musical tastes when I was a teen.  Great song!
As perfect as it gets, really - 10
Great Tune!!!  Brings back memories!

This song REQUIRES some enormous bass drivers....
I was at an 80's club night recently, and this song came on and the place went crazy. The club was full of twentysomethings who were not even born when it was released. Of all the songs they played, this one has staying power, 30 years later. Good job, New Order, you made a classic.
They influenced and inspired so many, with wild electronica, even more wildly imaginative percussion, and futuristic vocal stylings!
EXCELLENT!
80s in one song

... and that was two years ago....
Thought this was "dead or alive - you spin me round" when hearing the intro. That song is obviously a clear rip of this - being released 2 years later.
Great use of this song in a commercial (sorry can't find the 30 second version)https://youtu.be/dYo4ETQe71c

It doesn't need to be comparable - this is RP, eclectic.

If this is one of the first times you don't understand the negativity on RP you're not paying attention.

Come on RP add your silent face to playlist. Great track
takes me back.... still sounds good, over 3 decades later, dang I'm old
So this, but no Gang Of Four? Come on RP.

I know I probably shouldn't admit this but, I always thought this was a well produced track.  Really a "toe tapper"!!! And, I agree with your rating, shy of the fact that nothing earthly is God like. ✌️

Stone cold classic
"And I still find it so hard

But I'm quite sure that you'll tell me
Just how I should feel today"

— New Order, Blue Monday
I've only come to realise quite recently that club DJs would turn up the bass on the start because it just doesn't sound the same on every mix I've heard since.
11 times in the last 30 days in the rock mix?  I wouldn't think that this even belongs in the rock mix at all...

Oh now, the halcyon days in the east village.   Dancing in the Pyramid club basement.

Long gone times...
Instantly takes me back to the discoteques in Juarez, late 80's/early 90s - great times!
brilliant

So glad I lived through the time that this was new.  What an experience.
one of the most infuencial tracks in music history.

Requested at least once an hour for YEARS at KCPR. Just unavoidable that it would be overplayed to the point of thinking I'd never want to hear it again. Sounds good now though.
Yesterday was Blue Monday, but this is still apt.
My hair is starting to curl.
It came to me as I was listening to this and cooking dinner that you could do the Polka to this...
Just saying and not a negative, just a little humour

An iconic 80's album, it would be great to hear other tracks from it here on RP!
At this time I was in London, it was so great to hear this sort of music

For this time : "Messieurs les Anglais vous avez tiré les premiers"
I have always liked them, just cannot get over how much different they are to Joy Division.
This is one way to completely fill a dance floor, even now.

I love this, but Bill, you should see if you could get a nice rip of this most excellent cover by Orkestra Obsolete: https://youtu.be/RpLZ1mib0wQ
Greatest dance song ever.

Hmmm....  let me take a stab at this.   Not enough MDMA/Ecstasy?

I was given comp tickets to an outdoor concert of a famous 'classic rock' band.  Part way through I recall wishing I had a tonne more weed to smoke.  At that point I knew I was not enjoying the concert much.
I will forever more associate this song with Nazi PUNCH.
Genius!  Some of their new stuff on RP would be cool too!

The short leap from disco to this genre never really seemed quite far enough for me. I have honestly tried to like it, but I guess that this old long-haired hard-rockin' freak just never warmed up to this stuff. Can we hear some Zeppelin now? Please?
Don't worry, there's plenty of classic rock on the way - you're never more than an hour away from some iteration of Floyd, Zeppelin, Santana, Tull, J.J. Cale, or Clapton.  However, New Order was little more than background, dance-club music to me in the 1980s; it didn't work outside of that setting, and wasn't good for much inside it, though this song was fun.

Used to like the first two minutes or so but not even that much now...It's like being stuck in an 80s S&M bar with a hangover.

Speaking as a person who actually was stuck in an 80's S&M bar (to be precise it was 1979, close 'nuf) I confirm the above. Music for people who don't like music, or thinking, or anything actually...
{#Bananapiano}{#Drummer}{#Dancingbanana}
Biggest techno song ever. A 10, solid.
{#Bananajam}{#Dancingbanana_2}{#Bananasplit}{#Dancingbanana} Yeah, we were dancing then! Still can't sit still. 9 -> 10
I prefer the Nouvelle Vague cover version.
