Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone home?
Come on
Now
I hear you're feeling down
I can ease your pain
Get you on your feet again
Relax
I'll need some information first
Just the basic facts
Can you show me where it hurts?
There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move
But I can't hear what you're saying
When I was a child I had a fever
My hands felt just like
Two balloons
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain
You would not understand
This is not how I am
I... Have become comfortably numb
O.K.
Just a little pin prick
There'll be no more aaaaaaaah!
But you may feel a little sick
Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working
Good
That'll keep you going through the show
Come on
It's time to go
There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move
But I can't hear what you're saying
When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown
The dream is gone
I... Have become comfortably numb

Unfortunately about heroin use.
I have no idea why I rated this 9 first time. It's now a 10. One of the Best Records in the Universe Ever.
Why limit it -
One of the Best Records in ANY Universe, anywhere, Ever.
One of the greatest guitar solos of all time. Still thrills me to the bone 40+ years on. Looks like my fellow RPers agree.
Not one, but two of the arguably best rock solos in the same damn song!!!
No it's not "the real thing" but it really is the best you can get.
If you've never seen them and they come anywhere near you, i urge you most strongly to get past your "i'm not paying that to see a tribute act" fears and give 'em a chance. If you're disappointed after doing that, then i can only apologise, but i never have been.
I'm so glad, and grateful, that they still come to our little town every year and i hope they carry on doing that for as long as possible.
If you think fires like what happened in Lahaina were natural, get in line with the rest of sheep. Call it what you will and feel what you may but the world is under attack from a greedy group that would like to see so many of us out of their way.
Pink Floyd has seen this coming for years.
BTW, amazing song.
Time to break out the air guitar
And damn it this track is always 20 minutes too short. Why?
The only thing wrong with this is the solo fades - wish it went on for another 2 minutes - like some of the live versions
Absolutely. Say what you will about the man, but he can play with the best in history.
Of course this is a 10.
Still sends a chill through my old bones.
250 million albums. ...damn
i think they could handle being taken down a notch
It's a 9 not a 10, but an amazing song. There are others on this site that rank even higher.
THAT guitar solo still gives me goosebumps. What a masterpiece.
it's one of the best, if not THE best guitar solo.. ever. Dave is good at guitar. i wish i had been born earlier so i could have seen the classic Pink Floyd line up. i missed out.
I was 19 in '79 and on the road a lot, so cassettes were my format of choice. I rode the Ferries in Seattle a couple times a week and The Wall was a good one for the hour-long cruise to Kitsap. I could just stay in the car, put my head back and enjoy.
times enjoyed immensely=2,000
Gilmour, like Carlos Santana, proves that you do not need speed to reach the goal line. Tone, feel, touch are just as important.
And an impeccable sense of melody and uncanny ability to bend power chords with grace and precision.
Still sends a chill through my old bones.
Same here. chills.
Did AAPL really jack that ping in the middle of the track as their txt msg alert?
I just heard that and checked my phone....
Pass me that Sour Diesel, I want to be the title...
You sound like a pretentious asshole. Feel free to hate all you like, but a sold 9 in Radio Paradise land is a pretty solid rating IMHO.
Don't pay attention it's not worth it. Like discussing religion with religious people.
Thank's RP!

And a perfect ear for melody.

I'd throw Knopfler in there as well.

100%. Knopfler too. And include a perfection of melody.
same here. I spent ages as a teenager trying to master the first solo in this. Never got to the 2nd.
"Modern"? What sort of inverted history did you study? Human beings have been addicted to sex long before opiates were even cultivated.
LOL! I could be misinformed but
1. from my reading of some anthropological and ethnographic literature, humans have long enjoyed sex but not like some people do today. I have never encountered anything to suggest early historic sex addiction. If there was any pressure to 'perform' way back in early history, please share. And,
2. in recent time measured in decades and hundreds of years, sex has gone from tightly ritualized and regulated to far less constrained. That simply makes it easier for some to develop unhealthy obsessions (pardon the value judgement).
Cortazer was a Marxist.
It try to not let position politics get in the way of my enjoyment of art, music and literature.
I remember when this song first truly resonated with me, it was around 4am one Saturday morning (really, Friday night to us) in 1995, the summer between HS and College, waiting in my car for a 'hook-up' to go down and this tape (dubbed from another tape) was in my stereo. Sitting there, silently, in the pre-dawn coolness, un-sober to be sure, the melodic charm of this tune made it to my bloodstream and throughout my body. I could almost feel it in my brain; the numbness, the state of calmness with undertones of unease, and then that marvelous guitar solo at the end. Yeah....I was HOOKED on PF then, and soon thereafter I was introduced to DSOTM, which prompted my first loud car stereo setup.
And all these years later you better be DAMN sure I rate this bad boy an 11! PEACE and Long Live RP!!
Roy Moore lost; that's a baby step but we'll take it.
Well, at least we know President Trump is a brave and courageous man. He had unprotected sex with a porn star. (Shortly after his 3rd wife gave birth to his child.)
Should we feel comforted?

My God! Where did you find this photo of infant Der Trumper? I see nothing has changed.
And it's his theme song! Comfortably Numbnuts!
December 2017. Nothing has changed.
Should we feel comforted?

More so actually. Case in point, Paul Kossoff of Free.

De gustibus non est disputandum.

Once again Gilmour was right.
Sometimes, Waters should have learned to just his pie hole.
I would think it depends on what the alternative music was.
And I gave it 1, so you're not alone! Floyd Haters Unite!
Floyd Hater?
You are very pathetic!
There are some live versions that do not fade out though...
And what drove them to it?
Once again Gilmour was right.
Sometimes, Waters should have learned to just his pie hole.
Humans and egos lol imagine that!
As I understand it, Gilmour and Waters disbanded over disagreement over this guitar solo. Waters wanted something different. Gilmore said no.

Same. Only question I have is why does this great guitar solo fade out when it is hitting it's stride… ?
I've wondered this for years. Anybody know? Some argument in the studio perhaps?
You might say that.

IMO one of the top, greatest yet simple guitar parts ever. Still moves me every time.
So I continue to side with Gilmour's opinion.
really!!!
even I gave it a 2
And I gave it 1, so you're not alone! Floyd Haters Unite!
Does this clownshoe think rating every single Pink Floyd song that comes on RP a "1" will actually bring the overall score down?
really!!!
even I gave it a 2
I could listen to that riff all day.....

I doubt he is concerned with song ratings; it seems he just wants to express his displeasure with certain songs.

Poor baby! Still hating and trolling and no one cares.
My God! Where did you find this photo of infant Der Trumper? I see nothing has changed.

Some clownshoes have no sole.
To go down tempo and plodding, yet remain melodic and emotionally charged (at least for some listeners) while attaining incredible popularity is quite a feat if you ask me.
